Here's another acting and modeling quick tip from me, Aaron Marcus. It's really important that sometimes you say no to accepting an audition or a job. I know sometimes agents aren't thrilled about it, but this is one of the few things in our industry that we actually have control over. But you also want to think very seriously before you say yes or no to a job. Sometimes even small paying jobs could be incredibly lucrative for you in the long run. You'll make great contacts. People might love your work, and they will want to hire you again and again. But there are also times where you absolutely need to say no. If it's something that you feel goes against your beliefs and you don't want to support, it's a company you don't want to be the face of, absolutely say no because you're the one who has to live with this. There was— I'll give you a real example, and this was partially a business and personal decision. There was a national ad campaign— this is many years ago— about child abuse, and the whole concept was normally you think of child abusers as being scary, evil-looking people. Well, even nice, friendly people like me can be a child abuser. And I thought it was a great idea, great concept. I just didn't want to be the face of it. Besides the fact that at that time my children were very young. were young, and I didn't want their kids— my children's friends to be thinking, oh, you know, he seems like a nice guy. I can't believe, you know, he's a child abuser. Not everybody gets it that you're an actor or a model and you're not, you know, really the person who is being portrayed in this project. The other thing too is a business decision. And even though, you know, people— most people would get it that I'm not a child abuser, if I'm the face of being a child abuser, that could hurt my chances of working with kids. for future jobs. And I've done things for Parents Magazine and Crayola Crayons and Toys R Us. So it was a good decision to turn it down. Now, sometimes if it's something you don't want to support, you might find a way to still do it and have it be a good decision. Once again, many years ago, I was cast— they saw my photos— for a European cigarette company. I'm not a smoker. I don't like smoke. I don't want to breathe it in. But if it's something that somebody wants to do in their home and it's not affecting me, that's their business. Now, I'm not crazy about supporting cigarettes, but what I thought was, look, this job's going to happen whether I accept it or not. Here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to take some of the money that I earned from this job and donate it to the Cancer Society. And I felt like that was a good way for me to be a part of this ad campaign. I felt like I was doing something to be helpful in this world, even though it was a product I really don't like supporting. So maybe, you know, there are things that you can think of that can turn something into a positive situation and still accept the job. Now, if it's something that goes against your morals, your beliefs, whatever it is, absolutely say no. If there are things that you're being asked to do in a film that you just are not comfortable with, You got to say no because you're the one who's going to have to live with it for the rest of your life. So I just wanted to share that with you. I know we had some discussions about this with everybody on my email list, and it was great. And I just wanted to share with you some of my thoughts.
