Autoimmune Tests Can Be Negative for 3–5 Years While You Still Have Symptoms #shorts

Dr. Aaron Hartman explains why autoimmune tests stay negative for 3–5 years while symptoms persist. Standard tests miss early disease, but functional medicine panels catch antibodies 5–10 years before clinical diagnosis, allowing early intervention. The average patient sees five doctors over 4–6 years before diagnosis.

Did you know that if you have an autoimmune disease in the early course of it, that your tests can be negative for 3 to 5 years while you still have symptoms? That makes this an easy thing to overlook. It makes it an easy thing to be a blind spot for healthcare system. 50 million Americans suffer with autoimmune diseases. 80% are women. And the average time to diagnosis is anywhere from 4 to 6, 4 to 6 years, seeing 5 different doctors or practitioners. That's a recipe for disaster and a recipe for a blind spot. What happens when you seek for virus? You do the test, you're told nothing's wrong with you, it's all in your head. You see the rheumatologist, you see the endocrinologist, you see your OB-GYN, you see your primary care doctor, internist. And after all these specialists, you're not sure who should go to next. That's when people come see us functional medicine doctors. We actually do these more in-depth tests. We do gut tests, infection tests, tick-borne tests, and we actually routinely do an autoimmune scan looking at 10 to 12 different autoantibodies. And the reality is we commonly see these being positive. This is commonly overlooked. And the issue is you can actually— it's called presumptive autoimmunity. You can actually pick up these diseases 5 to 10 years before they pop up, then address the inflammation, address the toxins to actually have the antibodies go down. We do this all the time in our clinic. If you'd like to learn more about this, we have done a bunch of blog series on autoimmune issues, inflammation. Look at our website as well. Look at our podcast, Made for Health, where we talk about these topics. If you're someone who was in the system and this was missed, you went to the 5 to 6 doctors, it took the 4 to 5 years, and you eventually found out you had an autoimmune issue, I'd love to hear your story below. This is how we can actually educate each other and realize that this happens all the time and we have to be looking for it if we're going to be our own advocates for health. Take care, and I'd love to hear from you.
