When I got food poisoning in Morocco, my husband and I ate same food and he did not get sick. I suspect at the stage of perimenopause I was in the changes in estrogen. So estrogen and immune function are intricately related. Made me much more susceptible to not just picking up diarrhea, which is a pretty ugly bug, but also the significant endotoxemia, which means that my body got a hang hefty dose of toxin and it developed a leaky gut.
