Aaron Hartman, MD describes how fermented foods, probiotics, and bone broth improved his daughter's gut health and vision after she was born with brain damage and blindness. He credits the gut microbiome for producing about 75% of neurotransmitters, which supported her unexpected developmental recovery. His daughter is now 19 and has far exceeded medical expectations.

Dirt helped my daughter see again. I know it's crazy. How's that possible? Here's the connection. My daughter was born blind. She had a stroke before she was even born. Her birth mother did crystal methy entire pregnancy. Her gut was a wreck. She had nutritional issues, and there was nothing really left for her. People thought she never walked, talk, or crawl. And that's what all the specialists said. So how did dirt help heal her? One of the early things I learned is there's a connection between gut health and brain health. Neurotransmitters, serotonin, norepinephrine, dopamine, and many other that we don't even know what they do quite yet. 75% of those are made in your gut. And what environment helps the gut make these neurotransmitters? Probiotics, bacteria. There's actually kinds of probiotics that are being created right now called psychobiocs that are being used to treat depression, anxiety. Fortunately, I came across this information 15 years ago. We started using dirt to heal my daughter's brain. How? Fermented foods, homemade sauerkraut, kefir yogurt. We started using things in the dirt. Rare earth minerals, trace minerals. How do we get those all of a sudden? Bone broth, healthy fats, fermented foods. My daughter's brain started getting better. She started crawling, she started getting stronger. And now at 19, she's beat every expectation. If you'd like to learn more about that, my book on curable from hopeless diagnosis to the final odds goes through all the basics we did and some really cool things as well.
