Dr. Aaron Hartman explains why GLP-1 drugs like Wegovy work for weight loss and inflammation, but warns they carry real risks including gastric obstruction and shouldn't be given to children. He argues lifestyle changes and supplements like curcumin matter just as much.

All the bad news and media is making us think that GLP1s could be killing us and used in the wrong place at the wrong time, with the wrong people. Any drug can be potentially poison. We learned from science is it's the poison is the dose, many times, not the drug. GLP1s like WeGovy, semaglutide, Victoza, Bieta, there's a whole host of these have been used since 2005, 2006 by myself after they first came out. Very potent anti inflammatories. But in the wrong patient, wrong place, wrong time, they can cause gastric obstruction, a whole host of things. In kids they're probably a horrible idea. But in the right individuals they can help with arthritis, help prevent heart disease. They have a lot of anti inflammatory benefits. Ultimately, food is medicine. We have to include the environment with these patients. Arthritic patients need to lose weight. We can use curcumin, fish oil, a lot of things. But just as a medical doctor, I've got a lot of tools in my toolkit and one of Those are the GLP1s like WeGovy in this case, which you can see right there, this was actually published in the New England Journal of Medicine. You should check it out there.
