Short YouTube monologue by Aaron Hartman, MD arguing that hope is not merely an emotion but a strategy essential to healing. Hartman frames hope as the conviction that an unrecognized cause or treatment still exists, stresses persistence in diagnostic and therapeutic searching (especially in functional medicine), and emphasizes never giving up on patients or family.

Hope isn't a feeling. It's a strategy. But what is hope? Hope is realizing there's something you haven't found. An answer. Not yet. A supplement. A way of getting your body on the track. Something blocking your body's healing. There's something you haven't found just yet, but you know it's there. That's what hope is. And without that, people get stuck. They say, hey, all the doctors said we can't help you. Your autoimmune disease won't get better. Your brain fog. Sorry. That happens as you get old. Your hormones are off. Sorry. The reality is, without hope, you. You won't keep on searching. You won't keep on looking for things. That's something that we do at Richmond Integrated Functional Medicine. We never give up, ever. I never gave up on my daughter or my other children, my wife. And we don't give up on patients either. You deserve to work with someone who will never, ever give up on you and your health journey. You need to get with someone who will help you with your hope journey. Because ultimately, without hope and faith, it's going to be hard to get on your track to healing when everybody else says it's impossible. If you want unrealistic outcomes, if you want to have near miraculous outcomes, then you got to do what other people aren't doing, and hope is a huge part of that.
