This is a YouTube video titled "Is Sleep Apnea Being Diagnosed Correctly?" containing a conversation recorded in June 2025. The discussion involves multiple speakers, including Aaron Hartman, MD, who shares his insights on diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea, highlighting traditional methods and newer perspectives involving upper airway resistance syndrome and hypermobility.
Sleep is my religion at this point in time and this obstructive sleep apnea diagnosis, I mean are we diagnosing it appropriately? Are we picking up on all these people? I mean who's, what do you think? Who's coming through that you see is it is everybody the stereotypical or are you picking it up on everybody and how do you go about doing that?
I got really good early on in my family medicine career picking up the you're doing your these Aries tests which is a little sleep apnea questionnaire people fill out and after a while I got pretty good just looking at someone because their neck is thick, you look in their mouth and they have a small airway and it's usually an overweight male, you know. But when I started doing the functional medicine stuff and started learning about upper airway resistance syndrome which is people with petite airways and learning about hypermobility which maybe 20% of the population has that changed my perspective on.
