Physicians pursue minimum requirements rather than learning that actually shifts their work. Without active effort to update, clinicians can drift into practicing medicine that's no longer current.

And you keep up on board certification, which is you have to take this big test every so often. And in between you get what's called cme, or Continuing Medical Education. And most people try to find the easiest way to get cme right. What's the least amount that I can do to get the most CME? Category 1 credits so that I meet my state's suggested recommendations to maintain board certification. And it doesn't really change or shape your practice a whole hell of a lot. So by the time you're halfway through your career, if you're not keeping up on your own or the system in which you're working isn't shaping and affecting change, you're practicing antiquated medicine, in my opinion.
