Aaron Hartman, MD walks through a functional medicine course that treats inflammation as the root cause of heart disease, diabetes, long-COVID, and cancer. He cites a spike in breast cancer in women in their late 30s and early 40s within two years after divorce, linking stress and cortisol to cancer risk. The course teaches you to find your own underlying drivers and how to address them.

And so with the format of what we're trying to do is involving, you know, your mind through these videos, the community will help you learn more and engage more of your heart. And then weekly as well as with the community, what are actions you can take to start implementing things. So the next thing I want to talk about are universal concepts. You know, a lot of times I hear people talk about well I'll talk about inflammation, which is one of the universal concepts. And you might talk about inflammation in heart disease causing heart disease. You might talk about inflammation resulting in diabetes with long haulers or long Covid. You have post infectious inflammation causing all the symptoms related to that. You know, these seem like radically different entities but ultimately the underlying cause, inflammation is the same in all of these. What's different is the expression of inflammation in each individual. And that's where genes come into play. The that's where environment comes into play, that's where your age comes into play. All these things. So one of the, one of the things as we walk through these videos is what is your underlying universal what is the thing? Had an infection, you might have developed a heart disease, you might have had a heart attack. But if you have trauma, personal emotional stress as part of your universal and you don't deal with that and it makes the inflammation in your heart disease or your long Covid or even your inflammatory breast cancer hard to address. And that sounds a little amazing or impossible, but there is interesting data about post divorce breast cancer. So what that means is is in females, usually late 30s, early 40s, going through a divorce and within the first two years after that there's a great spike in breast cancer that's underlying stressors affecting cortisol inflammation that in that person and that suscept it results in something like breast cancer that might seem totally unrelated with. Will give you different outcomes. And so hopefully again through this course we'll help you figure out what some of those things are.
