Aaron Hartman, MD (speaker) states that, as of January 2025, the FDA has declared eggs to be a health food. He frames this as a reversal of decades-long advice to avoid eggs, and gives a translational-medicine rationale: eggs provide whole protein (albumin), omega-3/6 and phospholipids (in yolk), and fat-soluble vitamins A, D, and K, making eggs nutrient-dense and effectively a superfood.

What is the newest health food that the FDA has now declared to be a health food? You're going to be surprised because this health food you were told not to eat 15, 20 years ago. You're told to give your heart disease 20 or 30 years ago. You're told to avoid it like the plague. What is the health food I'm talking about as of January 2025? It's kind of crazy to think about. I'm talking about eggs. Eggs that now, according to fda, are considered now a health food. Now, why is this not surprising to me? Because doing translational medicine, which is one of the things we do, which is looking at basic data, looking at science, looking at what the body needs, you realize, hey, the body needs whole sources of protein, which albumin is. The body needs nutrient dense sources of omega 3s and 6s as well as phosphatidylcholine and phospholipids, which the egg yolk has. Your body needs sources for fat soluble vitamins A, D and K, which the egg yolk has. So all of a sudden the egg sounds like a superfood. But we were told for decades eggs are bad, avoid them. You can.
