What is Fasting Mimicking Diet?

Fasting, mimicking diet is trying to mimic fasting. So that's the first thing you have to realize is you're trying to do with a diet what naturally you do with fasting. A lot of this new research and literature is coming out showing that fasting actually improves longevity, helps us live longer, helps decrease cancer, it resets your gut microbiome, which are the bacteria in your gut. One of the things about fasting as well, it's really powerful, is it actually helps your body change the kind of fuel it uses. Our bodies are kind of like the ultimate clean energy kind of thing, where we can switch from the ultimate hybrid car, so to speak, where we can switch from using sugar to using glycogen, using fat for our energy source. So very functional metabolism can actually shift very easily. Usually you burn sugar for the first four to six hours after eating a meal. Then your body switches its metabolism from sugar based metabolism to glycogen, which is a storage form of energy in your liver and your muscle. Your body burns through this in about 8 to 12 hours after a meal, about 12 hours, your body will start shifting more to a fat based metabolism. This requires a lot of resilience, a lot of flexibility, a lot of youthful cells in your body to actually switch from a sugar based metabolism to a glycogen to fat based metabolism.
