Aaron Hartman, MD, explains PEMF therapy as pulsing electromagnetic waves used to prevent muscle weakness and bone loss. NASA adopted it for astronaut suits in the 1950s, and it can be used at higher energies to actively promote healing.

Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy. What is this, and why should you care? First, pulsed electromagnetic field therapy is using pulsing electromagnetic energy, magnetic waves, to induce energy and healing in your body. This technology has been around since the 1950s, was actually used in Russia and Eastern Europe, and eventually got adopted. This technology got adopted by NASA, and they put it in the spacesuits of NASA astronauts. One of the things we learned early on is if a person's body is too far out of the Earth's electromagnetic fields, they can actually develop muscle weakness, fatigue, breakdown of their bones, and a lot of other things, including depression. They actually put these devices in astronaut suits to actually help them to be in space for long periods in time and not have bad detrimental effects. We've learned is you can actually use these at higher energies to actually induce healing into your body, not just prevent its breakdown.
