Episode 263: The Bottom Line - The 2 Day MBA

In this episode of the Club Capital Leadership Podcast, host Bradley Hamner frames the central challenge for small‑business and insurance agency owners: how to grow leadership, develop teams, and scale profitably while delivering products and services. He opens with a promotional overview of the podcast’s purpose and then highlights three key sponsors: Club Capital, the nation’s largest accounting and advisory firm for insurance agencies, offering monthly accounting, CFO, and tax services; Coach P Consulting, a high‑touch coaching program that provides twice‑weekly personalized training and proven sales tactics; and Autopilot Recruiting, a continuous recruiting service that assigns a dedicated recruiter to source and screen talent for agents. Hamner shares a personal anecdote about his attempts to gain admission to top MBA programs, explaining how age and test scores blocked entry and how that experience shaped his belief in coaching and real‑world experience. Leveraging that insight, he announces a free, two‑day virtual MBA event on August 1‑2 (9‑11 am CT) featuring speakers such as Micah (CEO of Club Capital), Mike Reed, and David Peterson (Coach P). The event promises practical tools, breakout sessions, and a workbook to help agency owners become better overall business owners, not just better specialists. Throughout, Hamner emphasizes actionable learning, implementation over ideas, and invites listeners to register via businessgrowthcurator.com/MBA and share the invitation with peers.

Everyone, well, you have heard me say, uh, many times that the best investment that I've been able to make is in getting in the rooms and at the table with other people who are helping me to be able to think bigger, help me to kind of realize what it actually takes to get to the level that I want to get to, and really simply just kind of to be able to see what's possible. I've got somewhat of an embarrassing story to share with you. So I graduated Auburn in 2003. I can't remember what my GPA average was, but I mean, something like 3.6, 3.7, which is— not at all am I, um, bragging about that. Uh, look, I showed up to school, I wasn't, uh, very smart. I did not do very well on the ACT, but, um, I was committed to doing the work. I didn't miss classes and I was able to get, you know, a decent GPA. So I really didn't know what I wanted to do. There was a time I was pre-law, and then I was like, I'll just go into business. I ended up getting my degree in finance, but Ultimately, I said, you know what, I think I'm gonna go and get my MBA. So I applied to, at the time, some of the top business schools. Uh, I thought, you know, I graduated, uh, maybe cum laude, I think I graduated from Auburn. Uh, I thought, wow, you know, I'll get in for sure. Uh, I'll take the, um, whatever the test is to get your MBA. And I graduate— or I applied to Georgia, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Texas and Austin, and I think I just threw in Harvard just to be funny. But, uh, um, yeah, Vandy, Texas, Georgia. Yeah, those are some of the ones I applied for, and at the time those were some of the top business schools, and there were places that I thought would be great to go. Every single one of them came back and they said, uh, hey, thanks for your application, congrats on, you know, doing well in school, but a couple things, your ACT scores are not great. I had a pretty low ACT score. And you're, but you're too young. Our average student is 25 or 26, which at the time I was 22. I couldn't believe that. It was so confusing to me. Wait, the average student age is 25 or 26? And so they wanted you to go, and get some real-world experience and then be able to come back and get your MBA, which now at 42, I, I definitely understand that. I mean, being able to take the years of experience and go back and apply that, um, is great. And I would love to actually go back and just be around some of those people. I've actually looked at some of those executive MBA programs at some time now. Obviously, I've put that to the side myself at this point. That's why I invest in coaching, is to be able to get access to the things to help me to be able to grow. Well, I don't know about you, maybe you had thought about it one time, maybe you did get your MBA, maybe you thought about getting your MBA. Well, uh, it was a couple years ago I had this kind of vision of creating this 2-day virtual MBA, um, program and, uh, to be able to bring together some speakers. It's kind of a virtual— this is to our podcast community, my invite for you to attend the 2-day MBA that we are going to be hosting. And so it is a free event for you to be able to register if you just go to my website, businessgrowthcurator.com/MBA. Businessgrowthcurator.com/MBA. /mba and you'll be able to register on there. We have already got commitments from— I'm going to be speaking in a couple of sessions. It's 2 days. It's August 1st and 2nd. It's going to be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Central Time. That is a Tuesday and a Wednesday. And so Micah, CEO of Club Capital, is going to be speaking. One of my coaches, Mike Reed, is going to be speaking. He's awesome. David Peterson, Coach P, is going to be speaking, and then we're getting final commitments from a couple other speakers. But if you want to be in, you know, a community, a small group of other people who are working to be able to be better business owners— and so many of you are insurance agency owners— this is not just about helping you to become a better insurance agency owner. This is about helping you to become a better business owner. And there's a very big difference. Um, it is my belief, and some of you may disagree with this, but I think if you become a better business owner, you can get the former. But if you just become a better insurance agency owner or a better gym owner or a better, you know, behavioral therapy clinic owner, that doesn't necessarily mean that you are a really great business owner. And so we're going to help you to get equipped with, you know, where's some What are some tools and tactics? What is some strategy? What are some things we're going to try to take it from high level to eye level? We'll put together a workbook for you. And yeah, so would love to see you there on August 1st and 2nd. And so this is actually a really cool thing to see a vision kind of come together and be able to offer it to all of you, our podcast listeners. So go to businessgrowthcurator.com. /mba and hear from not just me, forget me, but we've got some amazing speakers here from my coach, from Coach P, from Micah, and a couple other people that we're going to get finalized here in the next couple of days. So we'd love to see you there, businessgrowthcurator.com/mba. It is free. Send it over to any of the people that you know in your community that you think would love to hop on there with us. So we'll go for 2 hours on that Tuesday and Wednesday. So we'll have about 3 different speakers. We'll go into a couple breakout rooms. We— people love to go in the breakout rooms to be able to kind of digest some of the things that were talked about from some of the, some of the speakers. We're going to do everything we can to try to curate, not just, okay, what would you learn from that? Would you, would you pick up what was one sentence? And then what can you do with it? I've heard, you know, I've said on here before, ideas are everywhere, but implementation is everything. And so, yeah, we do want you to learn some things for sure, but it's what is the actual real-world practical things that we can actually implement from that. So we're going to do everything we can to help you to be able to install the learnings from those two sessions. So August 1st and 2nd, 9 to 11 Central Time, going to have some great speakers, business growth curator businessgrowthcurator.com/MBA. All right. See you then.
