What Matters & What Are You Going to Do About It?

In this solo podcast episode, the host presents a minimalist planning framework built around two fundamental questions: “What matters?” and “What are you going to do about it?” Drawing on mentorship from Sean Blanc and a pivotal 2024 event in Tampa, the host explains how these questions can be applied across three planning horizons—a 3‑year vision, 1‑year objectives, and 90‑day priorities—to create clear, actionable business direction. The episode introduces the “Clarity Organizer,” a structured document that captures dream outcomes, mission, core values, and the two‑question prompts, and describes supplemental resources: free quarterly workshops (held March, June, September, December) accessible via blueprintos.com/assets, and a custom GPT designed to help users generate quarterly plans. Throughout, the host emphasizes the value of community, alignment, and confidence in execution, while crediting Sean Blanc for concepts such as “margin” that have shaped his approach.

What matters and what are you going to do about it? If we just kind of pull back and we remove any of the business language—objectives, vision, priority—we just remove all of that—we really could boil it down to those questions. Hey everyone, one of my personal business and really personal mentors is Sean Blanc. He has some incredible content. I'm hoping Sean to be able to come on the podcast at at some point and even speak at one of our upcoming workshops in 2026. But in one of the programs that I was a part of, uh, actually it wasn't even a program, it was an event. We were in Tampa, Florida in May of 2024, and I've actually talked about that particular trip previously. I was in a real challenging time in my life personally. My mom was very ill. And so I didn't even know if I was going to actually be able to go on that trip. But Shawn had flown in. Chad Cannon, who's come on the podcast, had invited him to come in and speak at our mastermind group. And that 3 to 4 hours we had with Shawn was one of those times that even though in the moment I wasn't able to really execute on a lot of things, it absolutely shifted the way that I saw a lot of other elements of my life. But there were two specific, very easy questions, which by the name of this podcast, you probably already know what they are. But there was something so simple about these two questions that I just love, and they're so profound. And they are: What matters? And what are you going to do about it? Now, there's a lot of different applications you could apply that, but what I want to do on this one is stick to what we talk about, which is on the business end. If you've listened to the podcast any amount of time, we believe that when you are structuring a vision for your company, it comes down to 3 elements. You know, I'm not the first person, nor will I be the last, that talks about how important it is to have a compelling vision for your future. The challenge comes in is exactly how do you do that? What does that actually look like? And there are three L's, areas, three pillars, so to speak. There's a 3-year vision. There is your 1-year objectives. And then there is your 90-day priorities. A 3-year vision, your 1-year objectives, and your 90-day priorities. And so when you think about that question, or actually those two questions that Sean asked, is what matters and what are you going to do about it? That can absolutely get applied to the 3-year, 1-year, and 90. And so, yes, we have language around objectives and priorities. And we will help people set, okay, what are the priorities that you have for this upcoming quarter that help move you closer to what it is you're trying to do for the year? Or what are the objectives you have this year that help move you closer to the vision that you have in the company? But really and truly, if we just kind of pull back and we remove any of the business language—objectives, vision, priority—we just remove all of that, we really could boil it down to those questions. Hey, person, in this case, hey Bradley, going into Q2, what matters and what are you going to do about it? Hey, going into 2026 or going into 2027, what matters? And what are you going to do about it? Hey, when you lean out over the next 3 years, and you begin to kind of articulate a vision for your future, what matters? And what are you going to do about it? And I think that that can then apply to so many other aspects of our life, personally included. I love the simplicity of those questions, but they're very challenging. Well, what does matter to me? These things matter. They want to increase revenue. I want to expand my team. I want our marketing to be better. I want our workshops to be better. I want our sales team to improve. I want our service team to pivot more. I want to get more, less client-facing interactions so I can actually work on, on and above the business. I want to work on my leadership more. That's what matters to me. Okay, great. Then the second part of it is, what are you going to do about it? And so at the end of the day, I mean, the document that we have that helps people to be able to articulate and put down their vision is what we call the Clarity Organizer. And it's not just those 3 things. There's a few other things tied to it. We kind of have a section to allow you to dream a little bit, your dream outcome. We also talk about the mission that you're on. We're talking about you put down your core values in there. So, that document has other elements to it. But really, at the end of the day, when you think about it, we could apply, we could just remove 3-year, 1-year, all the business language, and we could just say, hey, 3 years, what matters? What are you going to do about it? This year, what matters? What are you going to do about it? This next 90 days, what matters and what are you going to do about it? But I will say, It's so helpful to put yourself in an environment of other business owners that are trying to do what it is that you're trying to do, which is to grow, to improve, to expand, maybe even to scale. And for some of you, maybe even to exit your business. It's easy to know that you need to do it, but sometimes you need to kind of put yourself in the right environment. If you would like to come and be around other business owners completely for free, you can come to my quarterly workshop. If you go to blueprintos.com/assets, blueprintos.com/assets, and you'll see a link there to one of our upcoming workshops. And in March, towards the end of March, we always run the quarterly. We run it in March, we run it in June, September, and even now in December. And we're going to help you to answer that question. Yes, we've got a few other little things. We've got some other prompts. We even have a GPT, a custom GPT to help you create your quarterly plan. But I'm just going to ask you, what matters? And what are you going to do about it? I'd love to have you join us at the upcoming workshop where we can begin to put that together. We can actually reflect back on this past quarter, find some of the wins that you've had. And then we'll also pull together some of the lessons and the challenges you may have. And then we'll stop and we'll begin to look forward. And we'll ask that very question: What matters to you this next 3 months? And what are you going to do about it? So we can actually put that on paper. We can communicate to our teams so that we have clarity of the direction that we're trying to go. You can build some confidence, make sure that your team is completely aligned and even in some cases, make sure they're incentivized to help you to be able to move the organization forward. I hope that helps. I'm indebted to Shawn, and he's taught me many other things. He's taught me about the concept of margin, which is my word of the year, and some others. But that really has mattered to me a lot. What matters and what are you going to do about it? Love to see there, blueprintos.com/assets. All right, till next time, lead well. Engopeakrate.
