In this episode of the Conscious Pivot Podcast, host Adam Markel interviews entrepreneur Billy Broas, who left a career in renewable energy to build a successful online home‑brewing school and later transition into a consulting business that helps creators design high‑quality online courses. The conversation weaves through Billy’s personal background—including his large extended family—his response to the uncertainty of the COVID‑19 era, and the emotional challenges of entrepreneurship such as loneliness and the tension between structure and freedom. Billy explains how he recognized the limits of his brewing business, sold it, and leveraged his MBA and online community networks to become a sought‑after advisor for high‑ticket education programs. He emphasizes the shift from funnel‑centric marketing to a student‑experience focus, cites low course‑completion rates as a key industry metric, and shares concrete habits that sustain his resilience: daily “lead‑indicator” actions (the Seinfeld “don’t break the chain” method), noting moments of joy in an Apple Notes “What Works” file, and morning gratitude rituals. The episode also references several frameworks and books—Tim Ferriss’s The 4‑Hour Workweek, James Clear’s Atomic Habits, and Adam’s own Change Proof—as tools for habit formation and mental toughness. Throughout, both speakers stress the importance of vulnerability, community support, and the practice of loving one’s life regardless of external circumstances.

  2. Hey everybody, welcome back to another episode of the Conscious Pivot Podcast. I'm your host, Adam Markel, and I am feeling very good today. Got a little, I don't know, physical, not issue or anything, but just woke up sort of headachy and a little maybe even I don't know, foggy in the brain. I don't know if you guys can relate to that, waking up and feeling that way. For me, it's kind of weather-related often. If there's low pressure, rain, and that's what's weird living on this island, and it gets super humid at times, especially when low pressure comes in. So I did some good things for myself today. I made some time to just not try to muscle that away, and it doesn't usually help when we resist things. It doesn't help me when I resist things. So I was open. Open to maybe there's something I'm supposed to be paying attention to. Maybe my body is sending me a sign. Took a nice walk down to the beach, took a swim, and I feel good right now. I feel really peaceful and happy and just really feeling blessed that I get to do what I'm doing right at this moment, which is to have a conversation with somebody you guys are going to love. I feel like he's a great fit for our show and a really good guy. I'm excited to be able to introduce him to you. His name is Billy Brose. Hi, Adam. And Billy left a promising career in the renewable energy industry to go full-time on a side project, probably a side hustle that he'd been quietly working on, an online home beer brewing school. And not every day that you meet somebody that started up one of those. So we're gonna get to talk about that, which is really cool. Other people that were course creators began asking Billy for help, and he's now sold online courses in over 50 different niches, niches, however you pronounce that, generating millions of dollars in revenue for his clients. He's passionate about online education. He enjoys growing businesses while making a positive impact. We share that in common. Billy, so great to have you on the show today. Thanks for being a guest.
