A parent shouldn't force kids to keep family antiques they don't want. What you love might mean nothing to your child, and a heirloom they don't use is just clutter in their home. Let them decide what stays.

The worst thing that you can do, and I see this all the time, is burden your kids and say, keep this, I want you to have this. Because then they're thinking every day that, you know, Rayma's coming over, we gotta put out the china and put out the stuff. Don't make them do it just because we're coming over. Just tell them, if you use it, great. If not, let it go. Because I don't want to put a burden on them because you liked it doesn't mean they're gonna like it. I can tell you everything that I like, my kid's not gonna like. He's not gonna want the stuff that I want, and I'm okay. This generation, it's what's going on. If you have— you're lucky enough to have as much family as possible, Then be happy. The antiques are material things, and much as I love them, that's what they are.
