A caller found a 65-piece Lunt sterling flatware set listed for $5k on eBay. An antique shop owner explains it's worth just over $3,000, mostly for the silver itself. Modern designs sell better, and eBay prices that high rarely stick once fees kick in.

Hello?
Hi, is this the antique shop?
Yeah, this is Adam. How can I help?
Okay, well, I have a service for 12 sterling flatware Lunt Eloquence 65-piece set.
Okay, uh, sounds good. Uh, so it's a sterling service for 12. I know that set very well. It's a pretty set. Unfortunately, in today's market, for me, that's going to be more the value of the metal than the beauty of the set.
Really? I mean, it's such a beautiful set.
Yeah, it's, uh, it's a set that used to go for, uh, above the scrap value, but unfortunately it's an ornate set. People want to go more modern now, and it's kind of difficult set to sell. So it's mostly the value of the metal, which is probably, you know, maybe, uh, A little over $3,000 in today's market.
But on eBay I saw it for over $5,000.
Yeah, I know eBay, they ask a lot of money, but that's what they're asking. It's not necessarily what they're going to get for the set. So, you know, they could ask whatever they want, but after the fees and everything, and they probably mark it down, it's probably not going to be realistic.
Okay, maybe I'll try a few other places, but I appreciate your help.
Yeah, of course. Anything you need, you could always call me back if you have any questions.
Thank you so much.
Have a good day.
You too.
