CALMSUTRA | Stunning Stress Management Techniques | Akash Gautam | Motivational Speakers in India

In this Hindi‑English motivational keynote, Akash Gautam opens by dismissing generic motivational quotes, books and speakers as ineffective, arguing that most people remain stuck despite consuming such content. He shares a personal health crisis—an arrhythmia episode during a McKinsey event—that led a senior cardiologist to explain the concept of “sincerity stress”: the hidden strain caused by trying to be sincere and over‑committed in every role (work, family, finances) without adequate rest. Gautam argues that true productivity comes from focused, rested effort rather than long hours, and introduces a practical lifestyle framework he calls the 90‑60‑30 rule: (1) avoid any mobile phone use for the first 90 minutes after waking, (2) avoid phone use for the first 60 minutes after arriving home to spend quality time with family, and (3) stop phone use 30 minutes before sleep to allow mental restoration. He links this rule to better sleep, energy conservation, deeper concentration, and reduced stress. Throughout, he critiques modern technology addiction, shallow multitasking, and the cultural habit of equating worry with progress. He urges listeners to cultivate depth, manage inner emotions, and adopt disciplined habits to prevent burnout, improve health, and achieve genuine progress both personally and professionally.

I personally have come to believe that Motivational speakers, motivational quotes, motivational books, and motivational videos are good for no use. Because 99% of them, whatever comes is data, and data comes in and data goes out. We remain the same 30% year after year. And what, who, how can I change you? I can look at some of the people out here. कमीज के दो बटन टूट के गिरने वाले हैं। You're talking of vision for आदित्यभुरला group. नीचे तो कुछ दिखता नहीं है। मतलब इशू तो है। Right, you're talking of efficiency. There is a problem, na? Yes or no? I know I'm not a good teacher. You're waiting with the teachers in the evening, the real teachers. After having that teachers, all of you will become motivational speakers. Right? Anyways, peculiar DNA pattern would not change. For example, for a lot of people who are working in the corporates today. They believe that worry is the fuel of progress. They then they have to remain worried to feel that they are progressing. The day they don't have a mudda for worry, they'll create a mudda and then worry, and also make sure that people in the teams are also worrying, and then they call it teamwork. You know. October 9th, 2015, I had my first health instance. I'm okay now, don't look at me with a poor eye. I was doing an event for McKinsey and Company at Taj Vivanta, Faridabad. It was a 1-hour leadership talk and only event of my career which I had to abort midway. That's because right in the middle of the event, I had arrhythmia. Arrhythmia is when the heartbeat goes awry. It really goes palpitating faster. And I could not speak further, I had to stop. And Candice, their HR head, she shifted me to Batra Hospital, the nearest hospital. Those of you from Delhi would know, Faridabad to Batra. And I come from a family of doctors, all are doctors, I'm the only black sheep. Right, so I used my links to get spoken with the chief cardiologist out there. He looked at me and he said, Akash, you're perfect, no issues, not even a scratch, thankfully you're saved. But what he told me, it opened my eyes, ears, and every other aperture. He said, he's India's top cardiologist, and what he told me is scary, man. I want you to listen it very, very carefully. He said, Akash, 90% of the cardiac patients I treat are people who are sincere people in their lives. The way some of you have got an open mouth, Mine was like that only. My rebuttal to him was, "तो क्या सर बंदा आरामी हो जाए?" He said, "No. The problem with being Machiavellian, the problem within being an escapist is that you'll not go long. You'll get discovered and caught very fast." I said, "What is the way out then?" He said, "The problem why you." Burnt out. The problem why most of Indians are burning themselves out and becoming cardiac patients is that, and he said it in beautiful sentence. I'm going to quote unquote in Hindi and convert into English for the foreigners who are sitting out here. He said, "Akash, जब हम काम करते हैं, ना हम पूरा काम करते हैं, और जब हम आराम करते हैं, ना हम पूरा." We are living in a damn grey zone. We're living a pale version of life. And that's why he uses beautiful word called as sincerity stress. Sincerity stress is the thing which is plaguing us. We like to be sincere to everyone, to avoid not that we I am not doubting. I'm not even having a modicum of a doubt about your sincerity for your organization. No, you like to be sincere for ABG. You like to be sincere for your wives, for your kids. For your financial investments, for everything. But you forget that you need to be rested as well. For the epiphanies to happen, for the ideations to be happening, for you to look vital, for you to be feeling abundant within your own self, for you to value unlock out of your own self and pour your exceptional skills and talents into the Aditya Birla Group companies. Otherwise, you will keep on doing whatever else you've been doing till now. Nothing is going to change. Are you with me? Sincerity stress. Beautiful term he used. And you ask yourself, if you're working for nine hours, how much of it is satya and how much of it is mithya? Effectively, the real work would not be for more than two or three hours, gentlemen. I'm sorry to say it. And if you were to somehow make it four to five hours. I'll put all my money into ABC companies tomorrow morning when the stock market opens. I quit WhatsApp a year back, and trust me, it did not lead to constipation. We don't have a TV at home for 8 years now. As a result, my son became a very good reader. He reads one book per day. You need to take— when you— we need to take the— you need to do the right stuff for the right stuff to happen back to you. Even if you don't want. For example, if you're working out for 60 minutes daily, working out religiously comes to our what may. You have to burn those 60 minutes. Then even if you don't want, after one year you will be fit. Even if you don't want. May I recommend you something very small? A chidde trick. A small rejig in your daily lifestyle which can really change the way. May I, with your permission? It worked magic for me. And I'm sure if it can magic for me, then it can very well work for you because you're better people in terms of implementation. That's your domain. The trick I'm going to share with you is 90-60-30. What is it? 90-60-30. And this trick says that when you get up in the morning, do not touch your mobile phone for the first 90 minutes. Listen carefully. Don't stare at me that this guy is not good. I'm going to say it again and listen with capital bold font size of 80 here. When you get up in the morning, do not touch your mobile phone for the first 90 minutes. Should you do it within the first 90 minutes of waking up, you're allowing the whole world to claim your mind and attention, ladies and gentlemen. And you'll ever, ever be deprived of having a relationship with your own self. You'll be hijacked, ransomed, and the entire day you'll be walking like this in a sleepwalking state. Let me tell you, मेरा शराब है। Trust you me. Ninety minutes don't touch your mobile phone. That is a time to maybe do some excellent stuff. Like meditate, go for a run, and when you go for a walk, don't take your walk. You know, I'm in. I live in Chandigarh, and people are crazy out there. Being Punjabi myself, people go to Sukhna Lake, take their dogs, come back, कुत्ता छोड़ दें and take their bebis. You know, that ninety minutes should be little quiet time, right? Maybe meditate, maybe don't even read the newspapers or see the news channels. 90% of the news which comes in the newspaper, the news channels, I don't require it. The other 10% which I require will come to me any which ways in those 90 minutes. Yes or no? Yes. Right. Have that cup of tea with your own wife. It is possible to love your own wife after a good number of years after marriage. Some people are disagreeing. That is to do with the qualification engineering. Yeah, right. Anyways, 90 minutes is it doable? Next, when you return back home, when you open the घर का दरवाजा and door, do not touch your mobile phone for the first 60 minutes. You know what I'll do? That is a time when you can. Actually, genuinely restore yourself by being with your family members who've been waiting for you. Give them the time which they so deserve, and it's beautiful for your soul to do that. You enter the home with mobile phone, laptops, tension. Your kids are going to say to you one day, "मेरा पाप आइटम है." Then you do the next conference, energy conservation. Crazy man. Sixty minutes. Yes or no? You can really revitalize yourself by by having the you can listen to the music. You can cook. You can say you tell your own people I love you. Yeah. Don't assume that your family members know that you love them. When you assume, you make an ass of you and me. Tell them, pamper them, small gestures. The best investment which I made in my last 18 years of work career was ₹200 on a Ludo. You don't need huge money to be feeling rich in life. You know what I'm saying? Are you with me? 90-60-30 is don't touch your mobile phone 30 minutes before you're trying to sleep. Any single men here? Yes. They can also do it. Internet can be used for good purposes also. Right, thirty minutes before trying to sleep. When you when you when you sleep a little rested, you wake up with fewer thoughts when you get up in the morning. Sleep full. Sleep fully full too. जो मज़ा सोने में है, वो कहाँ दुनिया के किसी और कोने में है? You know, sleep is more vital to your well-being than even diet or heredity, gentlemen and ladies. If you sleep well, your energy is conserved for the next day. Yes or no? Yes. And when you— make sure that when you— in those 30 minutes or 1 hour before you're trying to sleep, that you don't touch your mobile phone. There's no mental replays of the conversation which you had in the day or planning for the next day. Keep it shut. If you don't give your mind a realistic, realistic long duration of restoration and reconstruction after at the end of day's work, then you'll join the next day at Adityapur Lag Group again in a defeat state, not in a fully 100% state. Are you with me? Give yourself a chance, a small change here. 90, 60, 30. How many of you think it is difficult? And if you've got bosses who call you up in those 60 minutes and 90 minutes, tell your boss that you're an ass. The world is changing, man. Some of the good companies I'm working for, Googles and all, it's transparent culture. It's all friendly culture. Are you with me? Get rid of this hierarchyism and— you can always explain it to you. Why would— and if you miss a call in those 60 minutes, you can always call up the boss. Back. Nothing is going to happen, yeah? And people in good companies— one more thing, one caveat. Stop blaming the bosses for everything in your life. And stop acting like a boss to your wife. The way your boss treats you, don't treat your wife like that. Yes, you can do it, Indian men. You know, boss को गाली देने से पहले boss की geographical status समझो। Boss आपको bamboo इसलिए दे रहा है क्योंकि boss के पीछे भी bamboo है। And the company would have thought of something that's why they kept the boss in that position. Yes or no? Yes. Now, you leave the boss to the company, you do your own job, and one day you will also become a boss. Are you with me? Right. See, cribbing, blaming, finger-pointing, these are termites of corporate today. Gossips. You know, come on, you're planning to take yourself, your career to the next level, With the with with these kind of handbrakes on of a car, how far would you go? Crazy, no? Right. How many of you think you'll be able to implement 90-60-30? Wow, very good. How many of you are lying? Gentlemen, let me let me let me put a put a proviso here. You do 90-60-30 for ten days. And I promise you'll never stop doing it for the rest of your life. It's that beautiful. Because why don't we do things? Why don't we manage stress? Because we manage only those things which pay us. We don't get paid for managing stress. We have an illusion. We have hypnotized us that when we are worrying, we are progressing. It's crazy, right? Everyone looks stressed to me, yeah. The CEO looks stressed to me. The middle management is stressed. The young guy who just joined ABG is stressed. Someone who is even applying to ABG is also stressed. This clearly makes me believe. That stress is not about your work conditions at Aditya Birla Group. It is your own, your personal massive, huge, gargantuan failure to manage your inner self, to manage your emotions, to manage your chemistry. It's your own failure, yeah? You are failing and you're blaming that I've got a work-life pressure? Complaining has become a seminal habit with you. You have a problem with your boss, you have a problem with your wife, you have a problem with your in-laws, you have a problem with your friends. Basically, you have a problem with your own self. You've got a poda at the back. You need to get this— sort your head first, boss! And sorting the head is a hard, rocky path of self-control. Most people, they have burnt out their nervous system by engaging into stuff which is not required to be processed even. They are in love with the shadows. Not the substances. There's a huge shallow, shallow— they're following a lot of shallow stuff in their lives, but depth is missing. Ask yourself, in which domain of your life have you actually exercised depth? Why are you not happy? Because depth is elusive. Forget about personal life, I'm talking of professional or anyone. This internet, these WhatsApps and these technologies, they seem to be chipping away your capacity for concentration and contemplation. You know, we've become domesticated with them. My son, he gave me a bolt in the eye when I asked him to do some vocabulary, learn a lot of things, right? And he said, why should I do it? I said, why would you not do it? And he said, because Google hai na. And he had a valid point. Most of these technologies and apps, they're made by some 20-something guys sitting in Bengalurus and Hyderabad and US, backed by huge investors. And they need people like you and I to be on them, for them to be running their companies. And we get into doing stuff which is not required to be done at all also. Majority of the messages which are there on WhatsApp are being paid by WhatsApp or the social media cells of political parties to be made popular on WhatsApp. And we keep on staring at our mobile phones the whole day. We are always available online. Basically, you don't know, but you're telling the world you don't have a life. It's crazy, man. And then you say, speak of energy conservation and make it as a theme for your conference. It's like, you're like what? Some of us are like those people. It's a बिजली का मीटर, electricity meter is there, and you've taken out 30 leads out of that, तार out of that, and given it to people who don't even know. Imagine if I were to ask you, if you're waiting for your friend in a restaurant and the friend is late by 10 minutes, what do you do? You just pick up the mobile phone and start time passing on those apps, 4 or 5 apps. Come on! You know, are you— my question to each one of you here is, are you comfortable feeling bored? A sure shot sign of progress is Are you comfortable feeling bored? No, we want excitement. We want someone to reignite us, excite us, you know, make us laugh. Always needing something, and because of that, we are burning our nerve energy. Be happy first. Have that enthusiasm first and die. An 85-year-old gentleman who had a problem, pain in the left knee, he goes to a doctor, an orthopedic, and he says, Doctor, I've got a huge pain in my left knee. He looks into the gentleman and says, "How old are you?" He says, "I'm eighty-five." He says, "You're eighty-five. Eighty-five में तो होगी." He says, "पर ये भी तो eighty-five है दूसरे वाला." Gentleman, अगर आप में enthusiasm नहीं है, जो झारूपन नहीं है, you don't look happy. You you're not worth knowing यार. मानो तो मौज है, वरना जिंदगी में टेंशन्स तो रोज हैं यार। You know? मुसीबतों और टेंशनों की वजहें तो आपको सैंकड़ों मिलेंगी, लेकिन बेवजह खुश रहने का मजा ही कुछ और है। Be happy first and rest everything else will be added on to you. Be energetic. Don't be like that sofa which came in the dowry. Don't be like that hugely ego-full, God-type person who just believes he's good, but he's becoming redundant because of his old ideas. With that, ladies and gentlemen, I wish you all the very, very best. One life, stay rising, stay shining. May God be with you. Thank you very, very much. You've been a wonderful audience. Thank you. Thank you very much. Thank you, sir. Thank you. Thank you very much.
