Alisa Cohn argues passion isn't what starts you. Commit to something first, whether it's writing a book or getting better at work, and passion follows as you build skill and confidence. Stop waiting to feel it.

Passion follows commitment. One of my favorite quotes. The truth is you're not always passionate about the thing at first. In fact, the thing that you're trying to do in your life sometimes feels like a lot of hard work. And yet when you commit to something, whether it's writing your book, whether it's getting better at your job in some way, maybe it's public speaking, maybe you feel concerned about that, you commit to that. Suddenly you'll get much more interested in it, and over time the passion will build because you get more confident and more capable at that activity. So remember, don't wait to feel passionate about something before you commit. Commit to something and you will start feeling passionate about it.
