This content was created by Allen Kopelman. This content was uploaded by Allen Kopelman. This is a YouTube podcast episode titled "Dating and Business? How Do They Correlate? | Biz To Biz Podcast" (metadata created 2024-03-08). It is an informal, English-language conversation between hosts Justin and Allen Kopelman of the Biz to Biz podcast; they banter and compare dating slang/behaviors to sales and business interactions (terms like ghosting, zombieing, breadcrumbing, situationship, pocketing, orbiting, catfishing, etc.), and discuss related topics such as merchant-account scams, platform pricing (e.g., ZoomInfo), social media outreach, and other topical anecdotes (Facebook outage, cannabis jobs). Tone is conversational and anecdotal, aimed at small-business/payment-processing audiences.

You are now watching the Biz to Biz podcast with Allen and Justin. Yo, what's up everybody? It's Justin live from B2B Vault, the Biz to Biz podcast sponsored by Nationwide Payment Systems, hosted by this guy, the Greg Popovich of payment processing himself, Allen Kopelman. That was a lot of Ps. And in today's podcast, we're gonna be talking about sales and how it relates to dating. Allen had an interesting perspective that he wanted to discuss. I myself find myself impartial, seeing that I've been in a relationship for over 15 years almost now, so I've never heard of any of these terms that are on this list besides one, uh, and it wasn't— it's not necessarily just related to dating anyway.
Well, no, that's why I'm talking.
I get it, I get it. So in any way, well, you know, yeah. How are you doing, man?
I'm doing pretty good.
That's good, that's good.
We got a little field trip coming up this week and next week.
Oh yeah.
Couple of field trips, going to go see some interesting stuff. Hopefully, hopefully. Yeah, hopefully it's interesting and not a bust. That's tomorrow? No, that's not Thursday.
Thursday.
Yeah, Thursday.
Whenever this podcast come out. Today is March 5th, 2024. Um, this the first time I said the date.
You know, March 5th, 2024 is going to go down in history.
I hope so.
You know why?
Because I'm going to be rich when I wake up tomorrow.
No, because today you never have to come back. You didn't see today what happened with Facebook? Facebook like disappeared for hours.
Facebook disappeared?
Yeah, like you couldn't— nobody could log on to Facebook for hours on end.
Oh, that's what was wrong this morning.
Yeah, there was some glitch in their system and Facebook went down for hours and hours.
I changed my password.
I tried to change my password, it didn't work, and then I just logged in a few minutes ago with my regular password that I had.
Interesting.
I was logged into my phone all day and it kept saying, uh, yeah, it logged me out of my phone too. The Messenger worked, but Facebook did not work.
Oh wow.
Yeah, I checked on Down Detector. There was a big spike of complaining.
Interesting. So it wasn't just me.
Zuck pulled the plug.
Oh, that's where your meme came from. You shared it, uh, there was a meme that says don't play with— he'll do it again, he'll do it again.
I don't think I shared that one.
Oh, someone did.
Someone— I saw a couple of people post the same thing, and then I saw like a— so you know how they post— we've talked before about dirty dining, you know. Yes, right. So they had clean plate posted by Channel 10 the other day.
I've seen this article. Yes.
So I thought it was funny, the top restaurant was the Port— the Porthole Pub. Porthole Pub. Porthole Pub was number one clean restaurant.
Never heard of it.
It's an adult establishment. Wow. So I just thought it was funny, like there's a whole list, right?
Well, hey, it's cleanly— cleanliness is next to godliness, you know. You gotta be in there clean. You can't be having a ratchet-ass adult nightclub. Well, I mean, you can.
Well, the kitchen—
I prefer a ratchet-ass night. If I'm gonna go to a strip club, yeah, I want it to be— I want it to smell like cigarettes, gunpowder.
Gunpowder? Not inside.
Yes, weed. And I want it to be the real experience, like how it used to be.
Okay.
Strip clubs nowadays are— it's to me it's just lame.
So the—
it's like strip club light.
It's on like the Dixie Highway.
I bet you that one is grimy as shit.
Pretty— it's pretty— it's a pretty—
shout out to the kitchen crew.
Yeah, kitchen crew, Porthole Pub. No, I just thought it was funny, like, you know, then number 2 was Hooters and like number 3 was like Marriott Hotel. I'm just like—
I seen Dino's.
Yeah, Dino's was on there too. He's a client of ours.
The only reason why I know Dino's is I've— I was— isn't that right on State Road?
No, it's over here on 31st Street, right down the street. It's a client of ours right down the street. He, he was on the list too.
Look at Allen.
Shout out to Dino for Clean Kitchen and Porthole Pub.
Look at Allen out here saying the client names. No, no, first time ever. No, but the funny thing, 2024 is weird.
No, no, I'm just saying, like, you're gonna go look at the list, say, oh, Porthole Pub, where's that? Then You're gonna go think maybe it's a seafood restaurant, pull up with your wife.
Hey man, it sounds like a great way to spice the relationship. Take your wife to the strip club, right?
I'm just saying, like, you're gonna see Porthole Pub. Oh, it's clean, it's down the street, let's go drive over there, honey. Pull in, you go, ooh, can I say something? Exactly what I expected.
When you get older, yeah, and you just wake up with a random hip pain Yeah, what the hell?
Yeah, I've had that before.
It's my sciatic nerve.
Yeah, I had bad sciatica one time, and it's just pretty—
I think I might need a new desk chair, but that's besides the point.
Uh-oh. Oh no, we're gonna go through the chair thing again.
Hey, so we're just only supposed to have for a year.
You've killed like two— that's the second chair you've killed.
How long are you supposed to sit in the chair?
Okay, listen, we'll get you a new—
they don't make the chairs like they used to.
No, that's true.
The old chairs, like the chair that you have in your office, like the old leather chair. Yeah, those are nice chairs and they last for more than a year.
Okay, well, we'll have to find you a new chair. How's that?
Possibly.
Okay, if not, we'll go—
if I wake up tomorrow and my— it's normal Okay, then. I mean, because I haven't been doing anything extra, so that's just whatever.
I know there's a special chair in the front, you know, maybe you can convince Tamar and you could swap with her.
Oh, no thank you. Okay, I prefer not to sit on—
okay, I get it—
who's no longer—
okay, whatever. And then I got this interesting, uh, someone sent me this interesting job this morning. And I was like, man, they're gonna pay— you can get paid $70,000, up to $70,000 here to smoke marijuana. Okay, smoke cannabis as a job. And it was in the greenmarketreport.com.
Did you, did you fact-check this?
Yeah, I looked it up.
I call it bullshit.
It's an actual company.
And where's the bullshit button when you need it?
They're looking for people to test their product. You couldn't even do it. Why are you showing me that?
I just thought you want everyone to quit. No, I'm just kidding.
I just thought it was funny.
It's, uh, I, I myself wouldn't really just be the guinea pig for you sending me cannabis to smoke all day. I'm just not that— I'm not—
no, I'm just saying I thought it was kind of crazy.
That's cool.
Somebody Yeah, somebody's going to want that job. That's— you had to be active on social media and so on and so forth.
So they want an influencer to sit around and smoke weed all day.
Yeah. And then the other big thing in the news concerning cannabis was apparently there's a lot of Chinese people growing marijuana everywhere.
The proper—
is that Asians?
I don't know.
Well, they're from China. People from China?
I don't know the political—
okay, well, I'm not gonna— they're okay, they're people and they're from China.
Okay, and they're growing Chinese Americans.
Okay, well, I'm— I don't know if they're Chinese Americans or they're just Chinese.
Well, they're Chinese and they're in America, right?
But then maybe they're not citizens.
Oh, down this rabbit hole.
Well, I'm not going down the rabbit hole, I'm just saying it's just been on the news. It was all over the internet.
I actually, before you shared it to me, I've heard through the grapevine.
Yeah.
That this is— so the Asian gangs are like, you know, the Asian gangs have always been around.
Right. Yeah.
So like I'm from the Midwest.
Right.
And there's a lot of Asians in the Midwest.
Okay. I didn't know that.
Oh yes.
Okay.
I mean, Chicago has Chinatown and it's huge. Okay, well, it's not New York Chinatown, right? It's bigger than Philly's.
Okay.
Um, I don't know, and I've never, I've never been to the West Coast, so I, you know, I wouldn't know.
Well, it's a lot over there.
They got Koreatown, Chinatown.
Yeah, like San Francisco, that's straight up.
Yeah, right. So, but the Asian gang's been moving in for quite some they've been around. Yeah, I don't know what got into their blood, but they all of a sudden have decided to like grow a lot of weed and, you know, step up their— anyway, long story short, they've been getting robbed, right, left and right. Like, I've been watching, like, if you're, you know, I follow some Maybe I shouldn't follow them on Instagram, but it's, it's, it's interesting. It, uh, I don't know if interesting is the right word, but it's— I like to— my father's wasteless, you know, like you're wasting your time, right? Like, that's just how I kind of, you know, you— anyway, so I've been seeing there's been quite a few home invasions.
Wow.
Uh, yeah, so like it's been going on for— so when you shared it to me, I'm like damn, somebody's mom got mad as hell. They told the news network about their kids getting robbed or something, because that's literally what's been happening. And it's hilarious that they, they make it seem like they're just like running the weed game in America, which is totally not true.
Well, I think it's mostly been going on in California.
That would— that's just nuts to believe.
Yeah, well, over there everybody's growing marijuana.
Well, I mean, to think that the Asian— the Chinese gangs or whatever— I, I don't, I don't have anything to do with it.
Neither do I. We got no skin in the game.
I am retired.
You're retired?
I've been out of the game.
No, it's just kind of crazy that it was like on the internet as an internet story in social media, and then all of a sudden, boom, I saw it on like 3 news shows.
Really? Yeah, it—
no, it, it was like a major—
next time I see the— I'm gonna try to find a video and I'm gonna show you these videos of all these kids getting robbed, dude. It's, it's messed up, but it's like, you know, what the hell are you thinking anyway? Yeah, you can't be popping up in everybody's hood and think you're gonna do what you want to do.
Exactly.
Anyway, I digress.
Okay.
So, drug war veteran, I sign out. I've done, you know, I've done nothing. I'm in the clear.
Okay. You're in the clear. Okay. So let's dive in, you know. So I was telling Justin, you know, sometimes like things that happen in dating happen in sales and business and business.
And I was saying like, I could see how like dating in Or like business and marriage, you can't— you don't— that's so sketchy when you say business is kind of like marriage because it's like a business arrangement. It's— my wife got pissed off at me when I said that once. What? Being married is like a— it's like a business arrangement.
I had a woman one time, she told me she was, oh, I want a partner, and then she started telling me like it's a business. She wanted like— yeah, she was looking for a business arrangement. It, it sort of the way she described it, I said, doesn't sound very romantic.
I accidentally said that once and my wife got super upset, so I would tread the waters carefully when speaking to your significant other and relating it to business. Okay, but I understand, you know, the nuances and where it aligns.
So I saw some articles about dating and different terms Some of them I never heard of. There was like up to like 30, 40 of them in some articles, but I picked out like the most popular ones. And these are things that sometimes when we're— somebody makes an inquiry, or you know, you're doing a cold call, or maybe they filled out a form on the website, and then this stuff happens. So the first one is a lot of people, and I find this, you know, especially with younger business people, instant gratification.
I was gonna say, this is my kids, right?
So there, people will run to, you know, for instant gratification, and they run to PayPal, Square, Stripe because they're so simple to sign up, right?
You know, that's, that's what he's trying to— I get it.
And then, so that's one thing, so that, you know, just because it's fast doesn't mean it's good for your business.
All money ain't good money, right?
Well, it might not be good in the, in the long run. And then here's one Justin knows, this one: ghosting. So, you know, this— a sales prospect or your date ignores you, so they ghosted you.
That's the one word that I've— but, you know, ghosted, I guess that we, we've been using that for business a long time. I'd never— like I said, you know, I've been in a relationship for so long and married, you know, like, so, but so we've been saying ghosting on a business level, like, dude, you ghosted me.
Yeah, like you're looking for additional—
that's a long, that's a long time though.
Yeah, so, you know, you, you know, you might be emailing somebody and they sent you some information and then you go, I need this other information, then you never hear from them. They ghost you.
Yeah, that sucks. That's, that's a terrible thing to do. If you're a business owner and you're ghosting people, you should be ashamed of you.
I mean, I would prefer someone to tell me like, I'm not interested. I'm not interested. Leave me the eff alone.
Yeah. Get the eff out of here. Right.
Then the next thing is zombieing. That's where they ghost you, but then they got shut off by their credit card processor.
So they come back. Zombieing.
They zombied you.
That, that is interesting, you know. So they like— so if you're dating a chick and then she ghosts you, and then for your friend, but then, or somebody else, she doesn't like your friend as much as she liked you, she comes back, that's zombie. She got zombied.
Well, no, you got zombied.
That's what I'm saying, you got zombied.
Yeah, you got zombied because they came back into your life.
Yo, these kids, man, the way they— yo, shout out to the kids, they're Hella creative.
I don't know who makes all this stuff up. It's probably— I should have looked this up on like urbandictionary.com. I'm sure it's on there. Or like somebody told me once, they said, oh, you could be in a situationship. And I said, what's a situationship? I didn't put that one on the list. A situationship, right? That's where you could be dating somebody, but maybe one person thinks they're dating and the other person thinks it's a booty call. Oh, then it's a situation.
That's—
yeah, that's situationship. Or you could be dating Mike Pauly Shore over here.
What's his name?
Mike the Situation. Mike Sorrentino.
What the hell is that?
Not Pauly Shore. Mike the Situation from Jersey Shore. Is that— Pauly Shore is a comedian.
That's the real guy. Jersey Shore, that's what I was thinking.
Yeah, Pauly D. Okay.
Paulie, yeah, whatever. But Mike the Situation, Mike the Situation, yeah, this guy. Textationships though, yeah, there is an ongoing communication that goes nowhere, does not lead to a date or a sale.
Yeah, how often, you know, we're texting somebody, oh, fill out the application, right? They're going non-stop with you, they ask you a million questions, and then bam, nothing. Or, oh, you need to update your bank account, and then they never update their bank account.
I get it.
Um, you know, lazy date or lazy sale call. The sale— the prospect has no interest in doing business with you, waste your time anyway.
I literally did that this morning.
You did that?
Yeah.
What happened?
Uh, some guy Is it— what was his name?
Oh, he was— was he like hard trying to hard sell you? No, no, no, no, no, no.
He was trying to get a— he was trying to say he needed a, uh, a website merchant account. A merchant account. And his name was David McLaughlin. But—
oh yeah, I saw that. That get— the guy filled out an app. That thing was fake as hell.
Oh, I was gonna say, I mean, he sent the real website.
I called up and the David guy answered the phone and he was like, had a British accent. Yeah. And I looked the guy up on LinkedIn, didn't even look like the driver's license.
Oh, I mean, I immediately realized after the first—
No, what was the one that we got the other day with the fake name that spelled out like I am AI or some shit?
Dude's name was like Khalid AI. It was— it looked like A name, Khalid Al No Man, right? But if you look at it further, it's just the first name and then it said AI, like artificial intelligence, and then no man, no man. Like, it's like, wow, the, the AI is not getting very— it's not very clever, right? You know what I mean?
Yeah, that was so weird.
There was a That was—
it looked like a real name, but then when you looked at it, you saw that.
I noticed it right away. Yeah, I meant to tell you about it. Like, dude, don't even waste your time. Like, that is obviously super fake. Yeah, I, I meant to tell you that.
No, no, like, I called that David guy.
I talked to him. Yeah, I'm like, this just doesn't sound like a David. He doesn't sound like his name is David.
And I asked him what he did. I couldn't even understand what he said. Uh, he told me remodeling.
Yeah, that's what he said to me.
And then he goes, oh yeah, we deal with all types of industries and single-family homes.
Nobody would talk— he was definitely reading something off.
Yeah.
Did it sound like the phone clicked?
No, it didn't. It sounded like it was like a Google Voice or something like that. I don't trust those.
I ain't— yeah.
And here's another one. This one's called Breadcrumbing. That's where like the conversation is all surface level. They drag you along. Maybe they fill out the application, the pre-app, then you send them the paperwork and they string you along and then they never sign the paperwork.
I don't see this one. I'm having a problem.
They give you like breadcrumbs. They like putting the breadcrumbs out.
You're following that to a destination, right?
But then they never— they never close the deal. The deal doesn't get closed.
We got breadcrumbs so that you can go back to where you go. You didn't make it up. I'm just saying it doesn't— this one doesn't make much sense to me.
I don't know, it's like fizzling.
What?
This way they decline interest slowly. They take your calls, but then they just gradually ghost you.
Fizzling, huh?
Oh my God, just think about it. It's what you have to deal with in the dating world sometimes. Times.
I don't want to think— I love—
I don't like dating, it's horrible.
I love my wife. Okay, you should just do a mail order.
I could. And what, just import from like the Philippines?
Czechoslovakia?
Czechoslovakia? Sure, why not? I don't know, I hear they like to be great housewives. That's what, like, they're really— no, Ukraine.
I have no idea, bro.
Ukrainian, they probably want to move here from Ukraine.
I don't know about that.
Russian brides.
I— you want a Russian?
No.
Wife?
No.
Yeah, man, the only Russian women—
they probably drink too much vodka.
They drink a lot of— the Russian women that I've ever met drink a lot of vodka, and they will stab you.
Oh, I don't want that. I don't need— I guess stabbed Mexican—
my wife, she's, she stabbed me before. She doesn't drink though, she's just dangerous.
She's just dangerous.
I love you, Justina, wherever you are.
What movie was that? West Side Story? Were they Mexican?
I don't know.
No, they were Puerto Rican, maybe. I don't know. People got stabbed though. It's like a love story with stabbing. West Side Story.
People got stabbed in West Side Story?
I think so. Look it up.
I never watched West— I don't remember watching West Side.
Well, you need to watch. That's an old movie from like the '60s.
I definitely watched West Side story. But isn't— never mind, I was about to say something and that was also probably not politically correct. And you gotta be careful, the terminology, it's the other thing you should have put on. You got to be careful, you got tiptoe through the tulips nowadays. You can't— you, you will—
I mean, it's messed up, dude. I don't like— you got whatever. And then you have like pocketing.
I just told you, we hired a young woman to be the office assistant. I asked Allen to make sure he's got to be mindful of his words. So I'm, I'm on the same, in the same boat. I'm trying not to curse. Okay.
Yeah, right. So pocketing, that's when the manager takes your calls but does not introduce you to the owner, wasting your time, you know. So like in dating, that could be like you're dating and then you never meet the family.
Ah, so they like, they keep you on the side.
Yeah, the manager. Yeah, they keep you on— they don't ever introduce you to the mom, the dad, the sister, and nothing.
You're only good enough to go to the events.
Yeah, you can take them to a concert and Prime 112 and Seasons 52.
And did Drake come to the, the club that he was supposed to go to?
I don't know, that club that we started processing for. I don't know. Well, when's his concert? It's, it's coming up this weekend.
Yeah, they said he also— he'd probably come there this weekend, maybe.
We'll see if it's all over then.
There's a club in Miami that Drake really enjoys.
Yeah, who wants to say where?
I mean, that's public knowledge. I just don't remember the name of it. Okay, Orbiting. This is hilarious. Go ahead.
If someone keeps visiting your website but does not engage with you finalizing the sale. Yeah, they might fill out the form, they don't answer the phone, they don't answer their emails, or they could be a scammer.
Damn scammers.
No, but like, the other thing is it's so annoying. Like, I get the most annoying thing like that I deal with is On LinkedIn, I get at least 10 messages a week about, do you need a new website? Do you need— another 10 messages about digital marketing, PR, PR, podcasting, social media. Everybody wants to edit our podcast, produce, produce some shorts with some kind of AI tool or some influencer marketing. Yeah, influencer marketing.
That you've never heard any of the people.
Yeah, never heard of any of them. The—
I mean, that doesn't mean that they're not influencers though.
And, and then this guy who wants to sell me— these guys who all want to sell leads that cost anywhere from $25 up to $80, $80,000 for a lead. Or the guys from ZoomInfo that want to sell you the ZoomInfo package. It's so good. The ZoomInfo is so good that it's like $17 grand a year.
If anyone from ZoomInfo is listening to this podcast, just know whoever called Allen the first time, bro, yeah, you guys ruined it. I'm telling you, whoever that sales guy was, because he's just, he's like a hater now.
It's not that. I don't want to buy. Okay, listen, bro, I don't want to pay. I don't—
we don't want to get into it on the podcast.
Yeah, let's get into it.
No, there's a couple minutes left. We gotta get— it's, it's a whole other podcast.
Should we do a podcast about ZoomInfo?
What we could do about platforms.
Okay, we'd do a podcast about platforms and their pricing strategies.
Well, specifically, I guess it would be more about their sales techniques, because boy, whoever from ZoomInfo pissed you off, bro.
It's not that. No, I'm just—
we gotta stop. It's just, it's— I'm dead.
Why? I should just tell the point. The point is, if you have a product that is so good that you want to charge me $17 grand a year for right? How come I just can't pay for it monthly and get like a 3-month trial out of it before I go spend $17,000? That's just too much money to commit to.
I mean, for a small business, I hear you loud and clear. $17 grand is a lot. And there is different pay scales through ZoomInfo, and they were definitely down to work with us. But anyway, let's move forward.
Too expensive.
I hear you loud and clear, brother.
It's too—
but we're going to talk about this another time. Okay, platform.
We'll talk about platforms, the platform podcast. Okay, we should do that.
Yeah, so any other, uh, interesting business dating?
No, that covers like everything right there. That, and I would say scammers is like a number. We get so many people trying to open up merchant accounts that are just straight up scamming. They got catfishing, they got fake driver's license.
Catfishing is what you meant, right?
Whatever it is, they've got fake driver's license, they're trying to scam. So they got fake driver's license, fake voided checks, fake bank statements. Some of the bank statements—
I'm saying in, in business, in, in the dating side, it'd be catfish.
Yeah, catfishing. Yeah, they would try to catfish you, you know.
I was— I, I remember when that show came out on MTV. TV.
I love that show, Catfish.
My kids, it's insane, so funny.
Nev, shout out to Nev from Catfish. That's the guy's name, Nev. Nice.
Yeah, well, you know, if you guys got any—
he got catfished and then he turned it into a movie and then he made it into a TV show.
I remember that now. Yeah, so if you got any, uh, if we missed any, you know, like new slang or lingo, you know, whatever, that you think that, uh, it can be used in both dating and business, let us know. We'd love to hear from you. Comment on this video, share it, like it, subscribe to the channel, please.
Maybe Match.com will like it.
Oh yeah, there we go. Shout out to you guys. I've never been on that website.
I'm just saying, there's lots of dating websites. I would— it would be funny, like, if you had a dating website that was like business. Oh, swipe right if you want merchant services, swipe left I don't like that merchant service guy, right? Pick your sales guy.
Anyway, that's the pod. Holla at us. Peace.
Peace out. Carpe diem.
