Andrea Levan and Nikki test how milk fat affects food coloring reactions. They tried whole, 2%, 1%, and skim milk with dish soap. Skim milk won at 4 inches, surprising them since they expected whole milk to react biggest.

Now we're back with part 2 of the experiment.
So we are gonna do first 2% milk, our reduced fat milk. Now just pour a little bit of that in the plate.
A little bit.
Ehh, okay, that's good.
And then drop the food coloring into 2 drops.
Make sure they're very close to each other.
Very close to each other.
Yeah. And then you're gonna measure it like really fast.
Um, then you have to take a cotton swab and dip it in and make sure that it isn't dripping.
Okay, ready, set, go!
Uh, that was 3.5.
Okay, so the measurement of the diameter of the 2% milk was 3.5 inches. So you record it on a piece of paper, and then the next one is, uh, let's just do 1%. So then we're going to do 1% milk.
So now again, pour a little bit that in, a little like so, and then pour the food coloring in, 2 drops each. Very close to each other.
And then you take a cotton swab and dip it in the dish soap and make sure none of it drips.
Oh, okay. And then ready and go.
Uh, 3 and a half.
3 and a half? Actually 3.
A little bit more than 3.
It's 3 and 1/4.
Yeah, 3 and 1/4.
Okay. Okay. Okay.
So now—
and that would— the measurement for 1% milk diameter is 3.25 inches.
Now let's do fat-free milk. And pour that in.
Okay.
Okay, and then you're going to do the Coloring again, again, like so, very close to each other.
Now I take a cotton swab and dip it in, and then make sure it doesn't drip, and then you're going to put it in.
1, 2, uh, 3, 4. I think it's 4.
No, 3 and a half. Okay, fine.
4 inches. And then the last one will be whole milk.
Let's do whole milk.
Okay, and this one is the one that we think will have the greatest size.
So we're hoping that it will be— our hypothesis will be right.
Then dip this thing, then make sure not to drop.
Okay, let's get ready. Set, go!
Go!
1, 2. It was 3 inches. Oh my gosh, 3 and a half. 3.5?
3.25?
Okay.
3.25 ounces. So this result was the same as 1%. So our hypothesis was—
that skim milk worked the best.
Was that skim milk actually worked the best. So—
okay, so our hypothesis was incorrect.
Because skim milk had the greater results. And so, yeah, unfortunately.
Oh, that was kind of sad.
Yeah. So I'm Ashley.
I'm Nikki.
I'm Andrea. And that was our experiment at Colors Symphony.
Woo!
Yeah, bye.
