How To Use A Face Roller

Angela Caglia and Jamie demonstrate how to use a rose quartz facial roller. Start with clean skin at your jawline, roll outward and upward toward lymph nodes, never back-and-forth. Use it twice daily for best results, or at least three times a week, to reduce puffiness and boost circulation.

Hi, my name is Angela Kalya, founder of Angela Kalia Skincare, and I'm an esthetician here in Los Angeles.
Hi, I'm Jamie. I'm the beauty director at Violet Gray. And Angela's going to show us how to use her rose quartz roller. So what are the benefits of this facial roller?
Well, one, there's an immediate glow, which is nice because we all want that satisfaction of the immediate glow. When you do roll your face, the blood flow is stimulated so you get a brightness that helps even out the skin tone. And also there's a wonderful element of lymph drainage. If you lightly press gently outward, you can move your fluid towards your lips and it helps to remove puffiness or dark circles.
So show me how to use it.
Alright, let's do it. First, let's put your hair back. And once you secure your hair back, you want to make sure your skin is clean and the rollers are clean. You can use just a gentle soap and water. And you want to start at the jawline and gently pressing outward. You do not need to press hard at all. You're not ironing out wrinkles, you're gently just moving the lymph drainage. And you can get in here and do some kind of fun techniques of lifting.
And what's the difference between moving outwards or upwards?
Outwards is for the lymph drainage. So you're pushing back towards your lymph nodes. This is for gravity. This is just stimulating these muscles and relaxing these muscles. Kind of sculpting, sculpting out more cheekbones. What do I like to do? I'm have you close your eyes. I love to do this in the morning. Just kind of roll them over the eye.
Were these in the fridge?
No, they just feel cold. And I use these in my facial. I've been using these for years in my facials and everyone's always just like, oh, my God, what is this? You want to get underneath the eye area and you can just press, hold it for just a second or two and lightly press outward. And that way you're getting more of the cold stone and it's circulating all that blood flow which pulls and makes the dark circles.
And what are the benefits for doing it on the neck?
Well, unfortunately, this really starts to show age and we want to really relax these muscles and kind of train your neck to not to soothe this area to where you're not creasing it and making a lot of wrinkles in that area. And then you go back up to this.
Relaxing.
Yeah, it's very relaxing. Perfect for a hangover. You can do yourself, lay in bed and just do this. You'll feel immediately better. You can also use a product. This is a serum. So we're going to just apply the serum, and you can dip your roller for just a second, not very long at all, in warm water. And with this warm roller, you can help to penetrate your serum deeper into your skin. And it feels soothing and warm. It's great for this time of year.
So it's okay to just use one. You don't have to use two.
Absolutely. You can use just one and get the full effect. I like to use two because it almost feels like it's two hands massaging you, and it's like a facial experience. So I'll give you the roller, both of them, and let you go for it.
Okay. So outward is right here, right?
Yes.
Okay.
And when you do it, just go one way. Don't go both ways.
Why?
Because that way you're pulling your skin. You don't want to go back and forth. So just keep going back. Rules to remember. You always want to think outward or upward. And just press very lightly.
Where else should I go?
You can kind of move upward up your face. There we go. And kind of work your way to your forehead. I like to do my eyebrows up. It helps to soothe a lot of tension. That's where we all carry a lot of tension. When I give facials, that's where I do a lot of the massage. So you basically are doing your own little facial experience at home.
How many times would you do this a week?
Well, I do it twice a day. You can do it at least three times a week.
Super glowy, beautiful.
You look like you just had a facial.
