Anthony Onesto’s short daily-video (dated Jan 12) urges recruiters—especially at startups—to stop relying on traditional text job descriptions. He argues job descriptions are people’s first impression of an opportunity but using text alone is limiting given richer media options (video, imagery, infographics). He calls for creative, non-text portrayals of roles (analogy: you wouldn’t display Apple products as paper sheets) and issues a direct call-to-action to reinvent job descriptions.

Hey everyone, it's Anthony Honesto. And this is my daily burst for today, Thursday, January 12th. And I'm going to give some love to recruiting today. Recruiting is probably one of the most fundamental pieces of any company, any stage companies, but particularly startup companies and early stage companies. And I want to talk about, specifically in recruiting, I want to talk about job descriptions, right? So these are the things. This is the first introduction of this awesome career opportunity, this awesome job, this awesome company. And what we've been, what we do is we, we do it in text version, right? With all the media we have here, we have these type of videos, we have imagery, we have infographics. And the thing we pick is text for job descriptions and even just the way we describe the opportunity. I mean this could be life changing for somebody. So I think we just need to be more creative. Let's, let's get away with job descriptions. Let's, let's take, take away the text piece. We'll deal with the lawyers later and let's get really creative about job descriptions and how we're going to portray this opportunity into the marketplace. Think about if you had walked down the aisle of a product company like an Apple Store and instead of those beautiful computers and those different, those beautiful displays, all they had was papers like here's the MacBook and here's all the information about it. It's important, but you never buy a Mac based on that. So that today is my daily burst. I will see you tomorrow. Think about job descript. Get away from the text and think completely reinvented. Do whatever you want, but don't do a text job description anymore. That's my daily burst. We'll see you tomorrow.
