In this video Aravind Padmaraju, Ph.D., a fitness and lifestyle coach, explains why short‑term, restrictive diets inevitably fail and introduces a sustainable “lifestyle diet” framework. He argues that most people start a diet with the end in mind, leading to a cycle of weight loss and regain. The lifestyle diet is built on three pillars: (1) include the foods you have been eating for years, (2) plan calories on a weekly average rather than daily strict limits, and (3) ensure the plan can be followed in any situation—busy schedules, birthdays, or parties—by shifting calories across meals. He offers practical tips for busy parents, such as adjusting breakfast and lunch calories to accommodate a party dinner, and emphasizes the key self‑question: “Can I follow this diet for the rest of my life?” If the answer is yes, it’s a lifestyle diet; if not, it’s a restrictive diet to avoid. The video ends with a call to like, subscribe, join a free webinar that decodes three secrets for building a personal routine, and complete an assignment to list past diet mistakes and apply the lifestyle‑diet question to future plans.

If you agree with me, type below this, um, Let me explain you with a small story. So once upon a time, there's a person and he decided to lose weight and he started following— he got some diet from the internet, from YouTube, or basically YouTube, one of the YouTubers gave, and he downloaded all the material and went for a time and he achieved the goal. The moment he hit the goal, what happened is he got a freedom to go back to his old eating habits. So then what happened? He gave up the diet and started eating the old, um, old— his eating habits, whatever he had, he started eating that. What— this time it was, um, it was a different kind of a diet. Then again, he started with the same kind of a restrictive diet. And every single day, every single time when he start, he always think, oh my God, another 3 months, I will achieve my goal, and I go back to the old habits. Tell me, what is the biggest problem with this kind of a diet pattern? Because the biggest problem of a restricted diet is you always start with the end in your mind. So can you tell me how— um, here, whoever is watching this video, can you tell me, do you want to be fit and healthy for rest of your life, or you want to be fit and healthy for 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year? If you want to be fit and healthy for 1 year, you need to think about something which you can follow and sustain it for rest of your life. So that is when I found out there is something You need to change the way you think about a diet, the way you think about any plan you're following to lose weight. So that is what I call it as lifestyle diet, the diet which you can sustain. Whether I am in a busy schedule, whether I am in anywhere, in any situation, can I follow this diet? If your answer is no, then there's no point in following this diet. You will be going through the roller coaster ride of losing and gaining weight. So what I wanted to tell you is if It is very simple to create a lifestyle diet. You just need required— and what you've been eating from so long, from last 20 years, 30 years, include all these foods as part of your diet, and you will be able to sustain that for rest of your life. And also, whenever you create a diet, don't follow on a daily basis. Take it as a weekly average. For example, if I— if you start eating less than your body required calories, you'll start losing weight. So how would you create this lifestyle diet? It's very simple. So you need to first calculate what is that the ballpark number of your calories you need to consume and start including all the foods you normally eat. The moment you start hitting the normal— for example, if you are starting to consume 2,000 calories and in a week you need, say, 14,000 calories, so 7,000 into 2,000— sorry, 7 days into 2,000 is 14,000 calories. You adjust your day according to— you adjust your week according to your lifestyle. For example, there's a birthday, you can actually cut down the calories on your breakfast and lunch and you put that excess calories, whatever is there, that excess calories in the party. So that is how you can manage it. So from now on, don't restrict, don't follow any restrictive diet. Always have a balance with whatever diet you have. Start enjoying every single time you follow either a diet or even exercise plan. Ask yourself, can I sustain this for rest of my life? If your answer is no, that is called as a restrictive diet.
