Enriching uranium to 60% is a major step toward nuclear weapons capability. Modern centrifuges spin at 60,000 RPM and can rapidly increase enrichment levels. The jump from 60% to fully weapons-grade requires as much effort as enriching from natural uranium to 2.5%, but the real risk is that enriched material remains even after centrifuges are removed.
Chapters
Nobody enriches to 60% for fun or research. Turns out, you know, the modern technology today, those are the fastest spinning objects made by humankind. They spin at like 60,000 RPM, incredible. So centrifuge technology has been around for a long time. A lot of work around proliferation was that, well, it's hard to make that material. That was definitely the case in the '40s, '50s, '60s, but You know, it's 2025. Those technologies are not so inaccessible now. The key is that those are very susceptible to any variation. If they lose electrical power or things like that, it's very damaging when you're going supersonic speed spinning. So they definitely took out the centrifuges. But, you know, one of the key things to say, and I'll say this just so everybody understands, nobody enriches to 60% for fun or research. You enriching to 60%, you can, first of all, you can make a not very good weapon with 60%, but you can make it. And what people don't understand, they're like, well, they only went to 60%. Ideally, you need like 90-something for a weapon. So they still have a long way to go. The way you measure enrichment, like effort, it's this weird unit called SWU, Separative Work Unit. Okay. And so the amount of Cebu you need to go from natural 0.7%, remember, to 2.5% is the same amount of energy you need to go from 60 to 100. So the point is like, I think what they were doing, they were like, you know, like we've done 99% of the work and we took out the centrifuges. But listen, the material is still there. I mean, the material doesn't disappear. I don't know, you can gather it and I don't know if they moved it, nobody knows. This game is gonna continue until you have a regime there that doesn't want to do this.
