Making A Robot's Face #lasvegas #robots #ai #corememory

Matt shows how a robot face swaps between different heads using magnetic attachments and runs on twelve motors that control eyes, jaw, and eyebrows independently. They're pitching a generic unpainted bust for developers to build custom AI-driven expressions without the cost of makeup and sealing.
All right, Matt, here we go. Are you ready? Yeah, I think—
yeah, I wouldn't let you do it, but there's this little technique with the eyelids right here. Oh, you grab those and then you have to like pull it. And this thing has extra magnets on it, but so you can just swap out the faces.
And you guys, you— I mean, I know you can make custom faces, but how many do you have that are sort of your standard?
Um, well, I mean, we're only using 2. Melody and Aria are the main faces from Robotics, but I have a dozen. Yeah, you know, like some of them I love, some of them I hate. Yeah, some of them work, some of them don't. So, um, this is how it goes back on from the chin, and then just see— that's why—
is that a magnet that I'm hearing?
Yeah. Okay, they're all magnets, so if that doesn't go exactly right, it gets— one of those other magnets goes where it's not supposed to, but done this enough times that normally— yeah, now this eyelid— we've lost the—
oh, it's an eyelid. I thought was— well, this is an old face too.
It's not good for the wear. So let's try that again.
Boom.
And then this is kind of like what that servo does. See?
Oh yeah, it tweaks the cheek.
Oh yeah, that's how you rig it. Smile.
And there's 12 motors in there. And so they kind of—
this, this, that's the two big ones. And then everything else is eyes, left, right, independent, up, down for the eyes, and then the jaw, the eyebrows. And that's it.
And so we were talking before, so that this is on a rail and there's a motor.
Push this up manually, I can get eyebrow movement, and then I can push them down Oh, I see. Make her more mad. Yeah, except she's smiling, so you have to do that with that. Yeah, I have a couple faces that are very expressive.
Yeah, well, like in this face, this would just be just to kind of show what you guys can do, or somebody wants that, or that's—
no, no. Well, so what I, what I had made that for originally was I was thinking for developers, like a very generic bust, right, with a sort of unpainted white face or gray or some just generic color, and then people could develop their own AI, they could develop their own expressions, animations, things. So like a developer platform. And by taking away the whole process of the makeup and the eyelashes and the sealing and the detailing of the face, it would like cut the cost and make it really simple to make.
I see, I see, I see.
We should
