Humans have always feared new technology. Cars faced the same backlash drones do now, but became normal once people saw the benefits. Modern delivery drones operate silently, are invisible at altitude, and deliver packages ten times faster and cheaper than trucks.
New technology always seems really scary to us. You saw the exact same consternation and fear around automobiles. When automobiles were released for the first time, people were like, these are going to be terrible for our cities. They're extremely loud. They create pollution. There were regulations passed in states that said that if a car was driving down the road and a horse was coming in the opposite direction, the owner of the car was required to pull off to the side of the road, disassemble the car, and hide the the farts in the bushes. We become inured to the things that just exist in the world. So for example, we are inured to traffic. The delivery drivers are like barreling up and down our streets, meaning like our kids can't play in those streets anymore. We're inured to the pollution and environmental impacts of people driving a 3,000-pound gas combustion vehicle driven by a human to deliver something to us that weighs like 5 pounds. You know, like these are actually pretty crazy costs that I think we're just used to at this point. The reality is there are ways of delivering that are totally quiet, that are way less obtrusive, that are better for the environment, that are 10 times as fast and less expensive. You know, people have this scary sense, you know, the sky is going to be dark with these vehicles. The reality is, in practical, you can't even see them at the height that we're flying at.
