Have you ever felt like you were running your business but you knew there was so much more opportunity if your health was actually in order? I am fascinated by this topic of entrepreneurs really being looked at as high performance athletes and the opportunity that we have for just health and wellness in our day to day living. I think so often we get caught up in this hustle and grind and do it all. And as busy entrepreneurs, it's easy to not take care of yourself. So that's why I've been really obsessed with watching a lot of Angie Lee's content, her Insta stories or Instagram or podcasts. If you don't know Angie, she is the host of the Angie Lee Show. She has had in person events for female entrepreneurs. She's also the founder of My Soul cbd. Cbd, Gummy product. Actually all kinds of products. But she really hones in her efforts on speaking to female entrepreneurs and helps them to take care of themselves. Now, not only take care of themselves, but let me also add, maybe not take themselves so seriously because not only is Angie's content informative and helpful and really eye opening, but it's also really, really funny. I love what she is putting out there. So today, not only is Angie a marketing genius, but today, rather than focus on that side of the business, we're actually going to go internal. We're going to talk about things like anxiety and ADD and ADHD and just better health habits for you, the busy entrepreneur. I hope you love this episode and I do hope you give Angie a follow because I promise she will leave you laughing every time you check out her content. But also really inspired along the way. Thanks for joining me today.
Yay. I'm so excited.
Oh man, so much. We've got so much to talk about. One of the things I love just following you on Instagram and hearing the things that you have to say. You speak to business owners on a daily basis and I'm sure Right now, especially, anxiety is probably high for a lot of business owners. Do you feel like there's common struggles you see a lot of, like, your community facing right now that you feel like, man, I've got some solutions. Let's talk about how to overcome some of these common anxieties right now.
Yeah, I think for a lot of people, something that is really interesting, I was jamming on this yesterday on my Instagram, is that ambition has seasons. And I think a lot of times, especially as women in business, we're really hard on ourselves and we don't honor that it has seasons. And just like everything else in the world, everything's cyclical. And so it's something that has been very, very present for my community right now, is that it's okay to have a day or a season where your ambition doesn't feel the same and you have to ebb and flow a little bit and dance with it in order to feel like, okay, is my foot on the gas or is it on the brake? And knowing that everything has seasons. And I wasn't told that when I got into business, it was, you know, you have these two different camps. You either have hustle so hard that you're working 90 hours a week and don't be lazy, don't sleep, and then you have like, the manifestation. Woo. Woo. Like, just wait for money to come to you. Like, it's just gonna happen, you know, my soul sister. And you're just like, what? How is it, you know, it's a. You're like, I don't. I don't know. Both of them seem very extreme. And so I think the answer, like, a lot of things in life is somewhere in the middle. It's a little bit nuanced. And I think that, you know, I. That was difficult for me because I was trying to choose one. Like, do I sit and manifest what I want and wait for money to just come to me, or do I work 90 hours a week? It's like, well, duh. There's. There's an in between of honoring that. There's seasons of push and going after what you want and taking action and taking this deliberate action. And then there's seasons of a little bit more rest and. And that's okay to be in that ebb and flow. And I think that's actually how business should be. And I think right now a lot of of us are experiencing that. It's almost like we went through so much anxiety and stress, and now we're coming out of it and we're not honoring that. It's okay to be a little tired. It's okay to feel like, what happened to my mojo? It's feeling just different now. And it's. It's going to take a moment to get it back. And that's healthy. And I think giving yourself that permission and that grace is. Is the best thing you can do as a business owner or a creative. Instead of resisting it, and then you're just beating yourself up, and then you're like, why am I not feeling it? Why do I not feel like I did a few years ago? It's like, well, you went through something. So I think this is very, very common. And it's just not talked about because it's not sexy to say, like, oh, it's gonna be seasons for you. Everyone wants to hear. You're always gonna feel ambitious 24 7. And I do believe I'm an ambitious woman. Does it mean I'm ambitious 24 7, 365. No. But I still am an ambitious person. So. Yeah.
Yeah, I love that. I love that. I totally agree. I think sometimes people, like, especially in our industry, right, we have this thing called the J months. January, June, and July in retail are typically just a little bit slower. And there's.
Why are they. Why is it all the J months? That's so interesting, right?
It's just seasons of buying, right? Like, January comes after the holidays, so people have, like, spent their cash on the holidays. Or like summer months. Like, you've bought all of your summer wardrobe in April and May, and then, like, June and July, you're just living, right? Like you're camping and you, I don't know, passed out on the beach.
Whatever you're doing, you're camping. You don't need clothes, right?
Like, you're wearing a swimsuit. Half the time you're naked. I don't know. Yeah. And then you start buying again in August. Really, like, back to school. So it's like all these seasons, especially in fashion. And that kind of goes for gift giving, too. So people will curse the J months, but I feel like, what an opportunity. Like you're saying, like, to have grace in the season that we're in. This is the time you go back and you rest and you rebuild your business and you rebuild systems and processes and you work on the things that you've been too busy to work on all along, and there's opportunity there. But like you just said, I'm curious your thoughts on this. I feel like this constant social media trap of comparison, which I absolutely hate. I think we all just need to take a collective sigh and say, bigger is not better. Despite what men of the world, this.
Is gonna go down a lot of rabbit holes.
But despite what men of the world may think, bigger is not better. Better is better. Better is better in business. So what's your take on that? How can we just step back? What are the actions, the habits, the things that we do to make sure that we're being better and not focused on always getting bigger?
Yeah, I feel like, especially with social media in the last two, three years becoming even more popular, there's more users, there's so much noise that if you don't take a conscious effort to tune it out, it's going to get to you. No matter how much you think that you're like, no, I don't compare. I love my life. I love my life. It's very difficult as a human, whether it's subconsciously or consciously, to not scroll and look at another person who, let's say she's got, like, the perfect body and these supermodel kids and her perfect husband in her $8 million house, and she's making nine figures a year. And you're just like, oh, well, I was having a good day. You know, it's so easy. But then again, who knows? She might have nine toes, and that's all, you know, so, like, you don't really know what's going on behind the screens. I always say that I'm like, take everything with a grain of salt, you know, I used to follow, like, all the beauty bloggers in la, and then I moved out to LA for a year or two, and I was like, oh, they're different in person. Like, it's not what's on the Internet. So it's like. And that's a good and bad thing. I mean, bad, because I believe you should. The authenticity and congruency should be there. But also it's a good reminder of, like, everybody's got problems, Everybody's going through something. Nobody's actually a supermodel living on the beach or in Bali, meditating every day. It's like, okay, let's, like, come back to reality. So I do think it's like, finding the good inspiration in it. And then I see it, like a filter filtering out the stuff that doesn't serve you. And, like, literally blocking or unfollowing or whatever you got to do, just muting that from your. From your vision. Because especially as a creative, you know, I'm in a season where I don't follow a Lot of people in the similar space because I want my ideas and my creativity, and I do a lot of comedy content. I want it to be unique, and I want it to be different. And so, like, really valuing being different and unique, that's really hard. If I'm constantly studying what another girl's doing and thinking, oh, I need to look like her, sound like her. Yeah, be just like her. When that's actually the opposite of what I want and what we should be doing. And even in the boutique space, right, it's like those who are different and weird and wild and. And. And edgy, like, that's what's going to stand out. That's what people want, right. They don't want the same cookie cutter of what everybody else is doing or. Or the clothes they're producing. So, yeah, I think comparisonitis will really get to you. If you don't take a stance and say, you know what, I'm gonna tune this out. I'm going to make sure that I'm like, have my blinders on when I'm creating or producing or running my business. And that is actually how you stand out, by not following all of the social media trends. And, you know, right now it's very, like, trendy to be on trend. So it's like, use this sound and do this voiceover. And I'm like, no, I don't want to do the trends. I want to do the opposite of the trends. So. But yeah, it's hard. It's hard on your mental health because you. You. You think, wow, I need that person's life. I need what they have. They must be happy instead of looking at your own life and being grateful, and that can cause a lot of anxiety and always feeling behind, like, I need more followers. And the reality is, once you get to, let's say, 100,000, you want 200,000, then you get to half a million, then you want a million. Then once you have a million, the carrot always keeps moving when it comes to success. So unless you identify what enoughness is for you, unless you identify contentment and actually just being grateful and happy for the journey and enjoying the journey and having fun on it, it will never be enough. Because once you have a million followers or dollars, then you want to. It doesn't stop. And I think that needs to be talked about with ambition, too. It's like, right, like, I had an event with thousands of women, and if you would have told angie that in 2017, who had, like, two girls show up at a yoga studio and, like, My mom was, like, helping me organize it. You know, I would have been like, oh, my gosh, she must be so happy and perfect. And that day, it was great, of course, but, like, it didn't really change who I was. And it didn't. It doesn't feel what you think it's going to feel like. It just feels like a little bit more stressful of a weekend. But, yes, it's fulfilling in some ways. But that was one of those moments of like, whoa, I need to do the inner work and be happy and love the journey and the process. Because once you get to the goal, it's not like, all right, well, I'm happy now. I'm done. I'm successful. All right. That was life. Like, you know, you just keep setting new goals. So I love having those honest conversations with people around fulfillment. Because there's so many people, you know, I'm sure that have a lot of money, a lot of followers, and they're not happy. And that, to me, is really interesting. Like, wow, that isn't the solution. That is not the one answer of, like, here's a million dollars, Here's a million followers. A lot of people still would be not feeling fulfilled. So, like, I think we need to talk about that more in society.
So, yeah, Anyone who's in enneagram3 right now is probably, like, dying.
That's what I was thinking.
I'm an enneagram3. And I was reading this to, like, our oldest daughter the other day. I made her take the test, and she's just like, oh, mom, wow. Like, I had no idea. And I'm like, yeah.
And I. How old is she?
12.
Oh, okay. Oh, that's a perfect date. She's, like, old enough now to, like, understand it.
Yeah. So it was good to see. And her and my husband ended up being, like, the same. They were both twos. I was like, wow, this is just, like, mind blowing to me. But.
So they're twos and you're a three. Yes. Helpers and achievers in the house. Yeah, I'm a total seven. So I'm very motivated by fun and enjoyment. And, like, if someone has a business idea, I work with my brother and he's always like, we could do this and this will have this revenue. And I'm like, is it gonna be fun, though? And he's like, I don't. I don't know. I'm like, mike, I got. It's gotta be fun. We only live once, you know? So, like, it's funny. And he's a Three. Totally. He's like, what's the goal? What is the outcome? And I'm like, I don't care about the outcome. Let's just have a great time building this. So we, like, it's so funny, but we learn from each other. I'm like, okay, I'll set a goal. And he's like, okay, yeah, I'll have more fun. Okay. Yeah. So it's funny when those two come together because it's like, you know, like, set a goal. No, enjoy the process. How about both? Can we come together and do both?
Yeah, we all need to take a page out of this book and, like, learn from this book. You're absolutely right.
So, yeah.
I'm curious, though. Like, what are things, if you think about things people need to do, to take a step back on a daily basis and enjoy the journey and, like, not just focus on the next thing? Because I never celebrate anything like, oh, we hit that goal. I'm losing my. Losing my ear. Oh, we hit that goal, like, on to the next thing. So what can we do? What are daily habits that have maybe helped you or maybe helped your brother? Is the question to slow down and to live and, like, enjoy that journey?
Yeah. Yeah. It's interesting because I think this is. It's just not talked about enough. But, yeah, it is interesting. As a seven, I'm like, okay, this is the gift that I need to share more is I think that it's almost taking not the obsession away from the goal, because that's still going to be there, but then asking yourself one, would you still do this if the goal wasn't going to happen? Like, if there wasn't that outcome, would you still enjoy waking up every day and doing what you do as your career? And I think that's important to realize. We live once, right? We're essentially these little, you know, cucumbers. We're like 60% water rolling around on a ball. And we take this experience so seriously. Like, we really do. And it's like, I mean, that sounds a little deep and dark, but let's also, like, we'll bring some levity into. Into this after the dark. But it's like, we live once. And so I see it as, like, life's a game. And. And you're. A lot of your time on this planet as a cucumber is going to be spent in your. Your profession. And. And I think that when we're 99 years old, we're going to look back and regret not enjoying the process more. I don't think we're going to. Going to be like, oh, I didn't hit that one other goal. You're not going to really remember. You're just going to remember it as a whole, how you felt and how you showed up every day and what you were grateful for. So I think infusing play and fun and enjoyment in the process actually makes you more successful because the fun makes it more sustainable, too. So with content creation, people will tell me, oh, I can create this type of content, but only once every few months. I just don't want to be consistent. And I'm like, do you actually love it? Is it fun to create? No, it's not really fun, but I'm just, like, sticking to that niche. I'm like, you got to also do what you love and just want to express and create, because if not, it's going to kill you inside and you're not going to show up. So to me, it's like, fun is the secret sauce to me. I'm always asking myself, how can I make this more fun? How can I make this more enjoyable? What would I create if there were no rules and I wasn't getting paid for this? And that sounds a little ironic, but then ultimately that is actually what ends up making me more, because people can feel that energy of like, oh, she just. I create because I like to create. I like to. I like to make that real because it was enjoyable to express that. And so I'm always going back to, like, how do we make this fun? Because I think maybe I'm wrong, but I think when we're older, that's like, what we're going to look back on and always wish, like, oh, I wish I would have enjoyed that moment more. I wish I would have not just been so obsessed with the goal, like that one weekend or that one sale or that one launch that I didn't even enjoy all of the months and years leading up to that thing. Yeah, like, when it comes to planning events, right? It's like, we're so obsessed with that one weekend, but it's like, how do we make the process of it a little bit more enjoyable, too? So we're not, like, waiting for one weekend of our life to be happy. So good. So.
And if. If anyone follows you right now, which I'm sure several people listening do, please go back and watch all of your videos. Like, what do you even call them? It's like mockery. Like, it's just like teasing about influencers today or like, things people do, like, thinking about you creating content that's really fun. It's some of my favorite content you create because it's so real life and it's hilarious. It's just being able to make fun of ourselves. And I think for, like, for too often we don't do that. Like, we are so obsessed with trying to look like the other person or, or being consistent in this one thing we were told to do, rather than, like you said, just go back and enjoy it. Just laugh at yourself a little.
Yeah.
And when we're in the season of, like, if sales are slower or whatever's happening, recession, maybe people aren't spending. Spending what they normally would spend. This is the time you double down on the stuff that's fun just to simply build relationships and be memorable with people.
Yeah. And I think there's also okay doing what you have to do to obviously make money and make revenue. I understand that. But then also, even if it's a side passion or maybe even if it's a thing that you don't make money from, but you really enjoy it. You know, I have a girl in my inbox the other day who's like, I do this for my full time online and I like it. And I also like, sell mugs on Etsy and I make like, little bit here and there, but it's just fun. It's just, it's an outlet. So it doesn't always have to be. You don't always have to monetize the outlets. I think there's so much pressure in like the boss, babe, girl movement. Like, okay, every single thing you like, make it a business. And it's like, no, if someone wants to paint or dance or start an Etsy shop, let them just do it. Like, it doesn't have to have the pressure of it all being a business. Right. Like, I'm sure as a three, you like, see everything as an opportunity. Right. But I think sometimes it's healthy to say, you know what, maybe you just do that to just be creative. Just you want to do it and it makes you happy, which gives you more fuel to then put into your business. So I'm huge on finding the outlets of play and keeping that childlike curiosity as a business owner, because I think that's a superpower right now that so many adults lose. And then it inhibits their creativity and inhibits them to be able to, yeah. Create things that don't exist in the world. And so I'm huge on. You got to play a little bit. Even if it's five minutes dancing in your living room. Whatever play is for you. Playing a game outside, you just got to do it. I mean, you have kids. I feel like moms have the ultimate. Like, you could just say you want to go to the park and go. I mean, they're older now, but you could still, you know, you get to play all. You get to play in so many different fun ways. And that. That I think that energy does really well.
That's so good. And it's hard as a mom. Like, I feel like sometimes I'm like, I don't have time for it right now. It's like every country music song gone wrong, like living in my life. Sometimes you have to, like, remember to step back, go outside and actually like, like, do the thing and play it is country songs. They all wrote about this, right?
I love that. That's so funny.
Something else that you talk a lot about and obviously with your CBD company and just health in general, you are so good at sharing life hacks on just taking care of yourself so that you can show up as your best self in your business, for your community, for your family, wherever it is. Talk to me about some of those most important tools or habits or just ways of making yourself a little bit healthier on a daily basis. What are your top three?
Yeah. Oh, top three. I'm like, I'm doing a lot of weird biohacks all day. So if I had to choose three, if you guys came over, you'd be like, what is all this stuff? I've got all my weird supplements, cold plunge. I've got all my weird hacks. But I love it. I love optimizing, I love self care. I think when you feel good, you can do good. When you feel good, you can do good. Like, amen. End of story. If you feel like crap, it's really hard to be successful. And I argue, I don't think that's actually success. I think you can have tons of money. And if you're unhealthy, like, I don't think you've made it. I don't think that's it. I think it's feeling good and having energy and having your hormones balanced. A few things come to mind. Number one, of course, is sleep. Like, this is huge. This is. I know you guys are like, okay, duh, sleep. But it is arguably the most important thing when it comes to wellness. If you're not sleeping well, you can't repair. You can't have energy the next day, you can't focus. If you have ADD like me, you need a lot of sleep. So we can, like, actually get things done the next day. Sleep is everything. That nighttime routine is so important so you can wake up feeling good. A good morning starts the night before, so you need to turn off electronics, calm down, you know, make sure that you have magnesium, cbd, these supplements that support the central nervous system. I'm huge on my nighttime routine. I have my little salt lamps everywhere around the house. We turn off the lights so it feels like a spa. I am all about the baby grandma routines. Next. I would definitely say, obviously, movement, walking a lot, keeping your body in motion. It doesn't have to be this crazy. Hit body pump class at the gym six days a week, Moving in any way that feels good for you. Walking, stretching, yoga in your living room. Just constantly moving. The energy. As a business owner and as a creative, that's where I get my best ideas. All of my content is from walks. Like, every single piece of content you've seen, it's an idea. I'm on a walk, and then I note it to myself, either in my voice notes or I type it, and then I email it to myself. So I do a lot of work outside while I'm walking. I'm like, okay, I'll create this, and then I'll do this. And that's just when I feel the most creative and connected. And then last but not least, and I have some episodes on this. Diving deeper. But it's called cycle Seek seeking thinking. You. You guys can look this up. It's essentially as a woman, when you are matching your cycle with your. Your workflow. And this is, like, revolutionary now, even though I'm sure women have been doing this forever, and now they're like, okay, we. We used to do this. It's honoring that. You feel different in different times of the month. Like, my first two days of my period, I am exhausted. It's. It's a lot. I don't. I don't. I just. It really hits me energetically. And then in ovulation and then the other parts of my cycle, I have great energy and I feel really good. So I have to honor that as a woman and realize that I'm not going to work the same probably the week of my menstruation as I would when I'm ovulating. And there's actually science behind it. So I break down. Literally. The brain chemistry of your brain is different when you're ovulating. It actually fires more neurons. It's more creative. It is. It's wanting to literally produce things and make. Make things right. In this, like, womb. Energy, Creative energy. I mean, there's a lot of the woo side to it, but it's real. And, like, we're. We're so incredible like that. Like, what a cool creature that we literally, like, can create things and feel that creative energy during that week. And then, you know, the week of your period, you probably do feel like, I want to do more inner work and emails and not be as social and hibernate a bit. I think we should honor that. And when I started honoring that in business, that helped me so, so much. So I'm huge on honoring your body and working with it versus working against it. I think a lot of women are working against their body, and they're, like, working really hard and then not eating enough calories and then working out really hard at the gym and pushing all the time, and then they're burnt out. They're in adrenal fatigue, and it's like, whoa, you got to work with your body. You got to nourishing foods and sleep and gentle movement and listening to what part of the cycle you're in. I'm all about intuition and listening to your body versus pushing against it. And for so many years, I did, and now I feel so much better that I don't do that. So we're gonna have to link up.
Because I'm totally intrigued by that, and I've been wanting to do that. I just haven't done it yet. Are there apps you use to help, like, get in sync? Because I tell you, like, the week before my period, I might as well just spend a day crying because it's just gonna happen. Like, it's gonna happen. And now, like, our oldest just got her period for the first time. TMI for everyone listening on the podcast. Now there's two of us in the house, so my husband's like, what am I gonna do with my life? Like, and we've got another one coming. Like, how's that even gonna happen? So are there. Are there apps that you use or, like, tell me more about how you got into syncing, because I know there's so many people listening who could probably take a page from this book.
Oh, yeah, it's great. And the fact that you even just under like, like, intuitively knew that, like, wow, seven days before my period. That's when your estrogen is starting to peak. Okay, Makes sense that you're feeling emotional, you're feeling the feels. You might get an email and think, oh, the world's over, you know, and, like, and take it so differently. Than you would when you're ovulating. Like, oh, that's fine. I'll fix it later. It's so funny how we can change. And I feel like, yeah, Clay, like, just is always like, this is such an interesting thing to watch, to watch the. The ebb and flow of this creature. Right. But I do think that one of the best ways is I use an app called Flow. It's literally called Flow. There's so many different apps, period tracker apps, that I think it's healthy to use, obviously, just to know. To either, you know, prevent or to have pregnancy. So I use it in that aspect as well as a natural birth control. Birth control option. And I think that it's great too, because then it shows me, like, oh, wow, I know where I am and I can look at my work calendar and I can. The first day of every month, I can kind of look and say, okay, I'm going to be menstruating. Like this. This. These six days about this is probably when I'm gonna be feeling this way. Okay. And I literally will book podcasts and I'll do creative work around that. So I know that it's not the first day of my period that I'm doing like, all of this creative output or, you know, on all of my creative calls for soul. I try to really do things around that. And it's. It's really helped. Unless I have a speech in person where I'm like, darn it, that event lands right on my period, which has happened, and I'm like, just gotta wake up and do it. But if I can, and as an entrepreneur, if you can edit it a little bit, why not? I think it's a beautiful thing to use, and it's like a little superpower, a little skill of like, oh, I feel really good today. And I'm knocking out all these podcasts because, yeah, I'm ovulating, and then I don't feel as bad, which I shouldn't anyway. But I think it gives you again, going back to grace and working with your body. It's like those first two days of my period, I don't feel bad. Then I'm like, wow, I was productive a lot of the month, so it's okay to want to fart around right now for a minute and just talk to my dog and cuddle with him and just chill. Yeah. With my heat pack, you know, and just lay there like. So I think that, yeah, it allows you the going back seasons, going back to ebb and flow. It's like There is no linear way. And I think way too many women I've worked with now for years or have talked to, they expect their ambition to be linear, they expect their emotions to be linear, their creativity. And I'm like, oh, I've got a little secret for you. It's gonna change not only monthly, but yearly. You know, it's like a dance, it's like a wave water. So much more natural.
It makes it so much easier when you can do it like that. You also have a lot of hacks, a lot of biohacks and just strategy that I know you've shared around anxiety and anxiety for business owners, just like hacks there. And also just living with adhd. Those are two huge things that I feel like aren't talked about about enough in this space and that so many people battle. So can you talk to me about those two topics as well and just things we can do on a daily basis to manage.
Yeah, good old anxiety. I think all of us know of it. It's a good. A nice friend of ours, right? It's the worst, man. If you've ever had a full blown anxiety attack, it's like, it's probably one of the most difficult emotions. I think it's worse than. I think it's worse than sadness and anger. It's like you just feel stuck in your body and it's like this stagnant, crazy energy. I think, obviously, yes, in addition to kava, Kava and CBD and a lot of these really nourishing supplements, that's one of the big reasons why Mike and I started Soul is I was dealing with a lot of anxiety. He was dealing with pain as an athlete. So we came together and we created it. So, yes, I do think there's that aspect, but I think there's also, you know, beyond just the cutting out, you know, processed foods and sugars and too much caffeine and things like that, I think it really comes down to also the just literally the emotional aspect of what is going on and journaling that out. I love breath work. I love really looking at your boundaries like, where are you saying yes, too much? Where are you trying to commit to everything and do everything and be everything to everyone? And that in itself is just a recipe for anxiety. So yes, you can take all the supplements and sleep really well, you and eat really well and move your body and all of those things are going to help you physically with anxiety, just to move the energy and to feel calm. But then emotionally, if you're not dealing with like what is causing this. This anxiety right now, today. And I like pen to paper. It's really been a very therapeutic thing for me just to get it out. And I'll do what's called brain dumps at night, where I literally sit there and I'm like, what? What are all the things that I'm anxious about? Just get it out. Just like, get it out on paper. And then you look at it and not only do you kind of laugh because you're like, why am I stressed about this silly little thing next week? Like, what am I? Yeah, why does it matter? It doesn't matter. You know what I mean? But it's nice to really see it on paper and to get it out of your system and to assess, like, is this worth worrying about? Is this something I can control? Yes. Okay, Can I fix it? Can I do a phone call? Can I? What? What can fix this? What action can fix this? And if I can't control it, I can't control it. I need to let it go. And it's interesting when you look at. Wow. Most of the things we're worried about, we can't control anyway. So it's like we're trying to hold on to some. Some sense of control. So, yeah, with anxiety, for me, it's been a lot of, like I said, journaling. I got into breath work, which is really beautiful. I have a teacher, actually, who will come over who's become one of my dear friends. And that's another episode I did where he walks through what it is and how you do it. For you guys listening, who don't do breath work, you're probably like, is it just breathing? That sounds so silly, but it's actually, it's very helpful. It's very calming. You do different sequences to get your body into the parasympathetic system, which is basically where you rest and digest. And it's really beautiful. A lot of people have very, like, almost equivalent to, like a psychedelic experience where they're like, whoa, I saw my whole life in front of me just from doing this 20 minute breathwork experience is really powerful. So I do a lot of that. Time alone, I think is really healthy. Whether for me it's long walks, like listening to music, processing how I'm feeling. I think we just. We live in such a hectic, rushed world that we don't give ourselves a minute to hear our own thoughts or get them out on paper or to breathe literally. And with breathwork and meditation and things like that, you can find apps and do even five minutes A day. It doesn't have to be this whole big thing. It can literally just be the minute you get up. One of my friends who teaches breath work, I love what she does. She gets up, she doesn't even leave her bed. She literally just grabs the phone, puts on the app and starts going through the mantras and the meditation. So it's just ingrained that that's like her habit. So I love that. I think that it's just, it's finding what works for you and finding a few minutes a day to find your center and your calm and finding that especially before the world comes at you in emails and social and all of those things. So I think it's really healthy in the morning to take that 5, 10 minute moment to yourself and just ground and to set your intentions before you're getting this influx of people coming at you. So, yeah, anxiety is not good. A book also that helps me. Last thing a book that helped me is called the Worry Trick. If you guys want to go pick this up on Amazon. The Worry Trick. And it's for you worriers out there who loop and spiral and you're like, what if this happens? And then this happens. The next thing you know, you're like going all the way down to like, what if I literally, I'm homeless then and I die? Like, it's, it's like. And literally the issue was like an email, right? It's like, it's crazy how our brain can go to the worst case scenario and it doesn't really make sense logically, but yet our body feels that. It's like, this is real. I'm not going to be safe. And so that book really helped me. And he breaks down literally, why worrying about something actually doesn't. It doesn't fix it. Whether you're worrying about something about your kids or somebody you love, like, it doesn't actually fix the issue. So he breaks down the science of worry and how to get out of that loop. And so that book really helped me when I was going through it. So, yeah, thank goodness. There's tons of apps now that have these mini meditations or mini breathworks that you can do in a few minutes and coming back to your center. And then, of course, yeah, I love CBD for it. I mean, that's one of the biggest reasons why people use CBD is for anxiety. That I would say is the biggest pain point that we solve ADHD for sure. Yeah. I mean, I know that this is. I didn't expect this to be such a hot Topic. I shared it once and it is by far the most downloaded episode, the biggest yam I get. Yeah, it's the biggest question I get. And I'm like, wow. I shared it just being honest about something I deal with and I thought it would resonate a little bit, but not to the degree that it's become where I'm like, wow, this is a huge thing that either women have it or they are reaching out because their son or daughter has it. And they're like, hey, what can I do? I don't want to put them on medication. What are the options? Are there natural alternatives? And I'm a huge fan of always choosing natural first. I'm huge on it's your life, your body, get to do what you want. But at the same time, same time, I do think it's healthy to at least try the natural alternatives first that don't have crazy side effects or addictive properties. You know, Adderall, I'm not gonna lie to you guys. Taking it a few times. Yeah, it feels good. Of course I read like eight books in a day. But I also don't want to deal with the crash of Adderall or any of the long term effects of Adderall. You know, it's like legalized crack. So I think there's like you just got a way out and only you can do that, you know, as a sovereign being. Only you can assess like what's best for you. But I do say try some natural alternatives first. Like nootropics. I love nootropics. We have something called alert caps, which has ginkgo kava kava. It has bacoba monieri, these things that sound crazy and silly, but they're essentially these natural cognitive enhancers that are plant based, which is really nice. So there's no crazy side effects, there's no crash. There's no like that feeling of you were so high and so focused and then you're just like. And you just completely have that, that crash. We only put a little bit of caffeine in there, so it's not like this huge spike or anything. And I also think that this is where sleeping well and movement is so big. Because if you have ADHD and you're not sleeping well, you're not allowing your brain to repair and if you're not moving the energy, I mean, you're going to go crazy. I think everybody feels this way to some degree. But even more so for, for the ADD brain, it's like you have to move that energy physically. So this is why I walk a lot and why I'm exercising a lot, because it actually helps me to perform better and it helps my focus. So, yeah, I'm huge on exercise sleep. I think that one of the biggest things with ADD is also this hyper focus and this desire for new things and novelty. We like that healthy dopamine hit. And so finding healthy ways to get that in your life as a creative and as a business owner. And I'm laughing because some of the ways that I literally do it are so silly, yet they actually feel really good. Where I literally will just rearrange the furniture in an office just so I can feel a sense of like, oh, this is a new room, this is a new vibe, this is a new energy. Okay, now I can. Now I'm excited to create that next thing. And only my, my fellow ADD friends will get this. They're like, dude, did you move the furniture again? I'm like, yeah. Like, did you repaint this room? Yeah, of course. I needed a new energy. Like, I needed. I needed something new, you know, and so that's been really helpful is to say, okay, I'm not going to take a flight to Hawaii every day. So what will give me that same feeling of a new environment as a creative? And so, yeah, it's a superpower in the fact that when we're obsessed with something, we go all in. We have this thing called hyper focus, and we're usually really incredible at that thing. It's like, we excel, but then the other stuff we don't pay attention to then. So I do think even more so than the neuro typical brain people who are neurodiverse, you have to find what you love. You got to do what you love. Because when you do, you're going to be so good at it and you're going to be able to execute and be obsessed with it, and it's going to just flourish. But if you're not really into it and you're pretending you are, you're not going to be focused. You're not really going to get it done. Yes. Our brain doesn't like to do stuff it doesn't want to do. So. So I'm like, you got to find the thing you actually love because it'll be evident if you don't teach her.
Not to long ago. And I think there is so much room for growth in education in terms of, like, understanding that this can be a huge superpower for people versus I had a teacher tell me one time about one of our kids.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, there's trade schools for that. And I about, like, lost my marbles because I was like, do you know that some of the most successful people in the world, like, are like this? So let's start harnessing this and. And calling it for what it is. And it can be an opportunity if you make it that. Like, anything, right? Instead of trying to label people with something else. So I'm really thankful that. That you speak on all of these topics and that you make something people look at as a struggle, but you've turned around and made it an opportunity for people. So huge gift in what you're doing, Angie.
Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. I'll get so many moms dming me, and I'm not a mom yet. I'm very excited to be when that time comes, because I have a feeling I'll probably produce some ADD kids. Just. It's probably gonna happen. Even though Clay is so calm and focused, and I'm like a little squirrel. So I don't know, maybe the DNA will. Maybe. I don't know. We'll see if the squirrel gets into the DNA. But I'm actually excited, like, the thought of having a little boy or girl that, like, is just kind of, like, wild and different and crazy and colors outside the lines and, you know, I. And. And maybe who has this extra energy and obsession on things, but I want to embrace that. And I. It makes me heart. It makes me heartbroken when these moms will DM me and say something wrong with my son. Like, what's going on? I'm like, because he doesn't fit into this box in this system of schooling, which is so outdated and needs to be revamped, and he's sitting in a desk for eight hours a day learning the same thing. I don't know about you, but when I was eight years old, I wanted to stick a pencil in my eyeball, too. Like, that's boring. That's not fun for a child at 8 years old, 10 years old, you have so much energy, you have so much excitement, so much curiosity. We should be learning in different ways. So if I was to have the time and resources, I would start a whole new schooling system of making it conducive to the ADD brain or just. Just the. Gosh, there's so many different types of brains, but just the brain that doesn't work in that way. Which, honestly, there's. It's so rare how many kids can actually work in that system. So, yeah, I think it's. It's great. And I tell the moms I'm like, go tell him he's amazing. They're very smart. They're just. It's just different how we process information. So love that your kid has all this energy. That's great with energy. He can go do all this cool stuff. He just needs to learn how to harness it a little bit. But I don't know, I'm like, if I get wild child, a wild child, I'm cool with it. I'll just let him go outside and homeschool. I'll be like, run around, just let it all out. Yeah, I hope so. I just want some crazy kids. Yeah. I think a lot of it goes down to exercise, too. The kids are expected to sit all day and it's like, what children? I don't want to sit all day for eight hours. Of course they're hyper. Of course they're chucking pencils at each other. So that's another episode on another day. But let your kids be a little wild. There's nothing wrong with them. They just learn a little differently and that's okay.
Thank you so much for this conversation. I think everyone listening, not just from like their business owner hearts, but their mom hearts and also just everyone who's listening, just knowing, you know what? I just need to take care of myself.
I just need to pause.
Like, self help isn't reading another book, but it's starting a healthy habit. It's doing these small things that are still readily available to me, me. So any last parting thoughts? Like, if there's anything you could say that everyone who's listening, that's a business owner, like, if they go home today and they put this one thing into action, just one more way to take care of themselves, what would the most important way be?
Yeah. Yeah. I think the biggest one is going to be, like I said, honoring the seasons. And so if you're trying to give 150% and go into hardcore hustle mode and maintain that forever, I think that is unsustainable and it's a secret for. It's the recipe for burnout. And so I rather you be slow and steady in a sense and be consistent versus crashing and burning. So taking care of yourself along the way. I do not believe you need to lose sleep to be successful. I think that is such an outdated piece of advice. That's ridiculous. You can sleep, you can take care of yourself and be successful. I don't think you have to choose. So take care of your body today. Feel good, have a morning routine, do things that nourish you and make you feel energized. Because then with that energy you can go be unstoppable. But if you first don't take care of yourself and you don't have that energy, it's very difficult to pour into others and be a leader or be a business owner. So I think that's the most important thing we can do is take care of our bodies and our health and our mind and your mental health. And then you can go be an incredible leader or business owner. But without that, it's hard to be. So take care of you, sleep and.
