Dotty Scott explains why you should comment publicly on someone's posts before sliding into their DMs. Warm them up first, learn what they care about, then send a connection request. Skip the cold pitch.
If you're perusing LinkedIn and you see someone that you think might be a potential client, either by something they posted or commented or, you know, something that you saw, do you like, like, what are the steps that you do before you ever reach out to them? Do you have a system?
Yeah, I would. Well, I always recommend interacting with people, uh, because first of all, when you're, when you're interacting with them, you get to know them, you get to know you know, the kinds of things that they post, the kind of things that they talk about. Maybe they're talking about an issue in the industry that you can solve. So interact with them, have those conversations on the platform. Okay. And then, and then when it makes sense, then connect with them further and say, hey, it looks like we have a lot in common. Let's jump on a call, get to know each other a little bit better, because at that point they've already interacted with you. So it's— you're— you've warmed them up a little bit, and, uh, it just makes more sense to get on a call with somebody. You know, I get people in my inbox all the time, and they're like, you know, let's jump on a call. And I'm like, well, I don't even know if this makes sense.
And so I want to clarify one thing that you said, and that was to interact with people on the platform. You're talking about like in the comments and stuff. You're not saying jump to a DM, right? Correct, correct. Perfect.
