Dotty Scott shares how a rental property owner stays productive by scheduling a daily time block for emergencies. When tenant or property issues don't come up, that time becomes bonus hours for lower-priority work or rest.

And another thing, so I have a client that made this nice— she, she did what we are talking about and she had this great plan and she, her, you, her day was usually disrupted quite often by these unexpected emergencies that came up. She had rental properties, so a property needed help or a tenant needed something or something would break and something that she needed to handle. And she would get really frustrated because her ideal day or her planned day didn't ever go the way she expected it to. So if you or any of you or anybody listening is like that, where you can plan the best week and everything looks all great, but it doesn't usually happen that way, then what I taught her to do is to schedule the block of time for the emergency, for the fire that is likely to come up. So when something came up, it might have to shift within the day, but at least it didn't totally derail her because now there was the time allocated for it. And then if you got lucky and didn't— something didn't come up, then you have extra bonus time that you get to play with and do something that wasn't as important, or you can have a little bit more fun with it.
