Dotty Scott explains what a search engine index is: the database search engines use to store websites and their keywords, then match those to what people search for. It's the foundation of how SEO works.
So Dotty, before you go, I don't know what an index is. So an index— just dumb it down a little bit for people like me.
Okay. An index is basically the database that Google uses that everybody's website goes into, and it has this database information of what your keywords are and all of that. Search engine optimization is based on that, which I'm not going to get into tonight, but it's basically all the information that the search engines have on you and your website, and it's put together in a way that when somebody types in a certain keyword, then hopefully your website comes up, and that data is called their index.
