Where did Page 2 Go?

Google replaced pagination with infinite scroll on all devices, making page position critical since mobile speed is now a primary ranking factor. Dotty Scott recommends testing your site with Google's PageSpeed Test and moving off shared hosting, which is too slow for competitive mobile performance.

has a page 2. What does this mean for you? Hi, I'm Dotty Scott. I empower business owners to embrace technology in their business. And why do you care if Google no longer has a page 2? Here's why you care. They have what they call the on ongoing streaming scrolling one-page display. Well, they've had that for years for mobile, and now they have it for desktop as well. That tells me they're using the mobile index for everything. So is your website in the mobile index in a spot that you really want it to be, which is on the page 1, which no longer exists by the way, um, or at the top of the infinite scroll. That is what you want to ask: is your website at the top of the infinite scroll? How does this happen? Well, it's been known for a long time that on mobile anyway Google will start ranking fast loading websites and user-friendly websites for mobile devices higher than your competition if theirs is not. So they look at that, I would say, almost before they look at the actual content on the website. So it's super important that your website loads fast, and you can test this. Just Google the term PageSpeed Test, and Google has a platform to test the mobile speed of your website, and it'll tell you what things are holding you back. Some you may be able to fix, some you may not be able to fix, but I can tell you one thing that you can fix is no longer using shared hosting. Shared hosting is slow. Shared hosting will always be slow. If you are on a WordPress website, get managed WordPress hosting. It's specific for WordPress and it is designed so that your site will load faster. It's available at a lot of different hosting companies, but like, like shared hosting, they're not all the same. So talk to somebody that actually knows about hosting. And knows about the different companies— hint, hint— talk to me about hosting. I can tell you all kinds of things, probably more than you ever cared to know about hosting. But number, number one thing: get off of a shared hosting plan if that's what you are on. That— you will never ever have a fast mobile site on shared hosting, no matter what you do. So that's priority number 1. And then after that, there's all kinds of things that we can do to speed up your mobile version of your website. But that should be priority. It does affect you.
