Short video/transcript excerpt where Mike Lyons introduces Step 1 (Canvas) in Agile Product Ownership. The segment describes forming hypothesis-driven Value Proposition Canvases to align a business’s offerings with customer needs; it emphasizes collaboration, iterative refinement, and using the Canvas as a reusable template for product owners (example organization: Technova).

If you're thinking about products just in general, I bet it's safe to say you probably have some ideas of who the customers are and what problems they might have, and even some notional ideas of how those products solve those problems. This product contains highly toxic carcinogenic poisons. Heck, as a customer yourself, you probably choose products based on how well they solve your problems. I know I do well in Agile Product Ownership Understanding this is at the heart of everything we do, and it all starts with a single step. Step 1 Canvas this step is just the beginning of the process where we take our best guesses to align what our business offers and what our customers need. The Canvas step is rooted in hypothesis educated guesses about what our customer needs, what problems they have, and how we might solve them. These hypotheses are formed from the data and insights that we currently have, and it's a collaborative effort, typically involving the product owner and an internal team. This ensures that we get multiple perspectives. It's not about having everything perfect from the start. It's about creating a starting point that will refine as we go. In this step, we create the Value Proposition Canvas and we'll use it throughout the course. Now this tool will help you organize your thoughts and align your business offerings with customer needs. And as we use the canvas, we refine it and build on it as we design, test and evolve our product for Technova. But even more importantly, you'll have it as a template to use in your real role as product owner. For now, just note that the Canvas step this first step, it's about making educated guesses and then we're setting a direction that we'll build upon and refine.
