Mike Lyons recounts how discovering the Agile Manifesto around 2006 changed his career from working on large waterfall projects to Agile approaches. He criticizes the traditional waterfall lifecycle (extended analysis, delayed testing, deployment failures) and explains the four Agile values: individuals and interactions over processes and tools; working software over comprehensive documentation; customer collaboration over contract negotiation; and responding to change over following a plan—noting that the left-side items are preferred but the right-side items still have value.
