Young people now want to become involved. They're watching the Greta effect, and they're seeing young people get more and more involved in their own communities and in actually creating change in the world. Grown people think we students can't do much because we're young. But if we are a lot of students trying to do something, I think we can change something.
There's a lot of youth activism, and they're frustrated, and young kids are learning about the environment, but they're not sure, how do I take my energy and my passions and activate that to go tackle some of these issues?
One of the biggest questions we constantly hear is, how do I get involved in my own community and how do I make my own impact? And so Davos coast this year is really answering that question for young people.
This whole program that you see designed around us is really making the children in a school citizen scientists.
So this year for Davos coast, we've worked with the school and the students to create a climate action lab here in the town of Davos.
We made our own sensors.
We put them around Davos to measure the impact of climate on their environment.
We can show people and tell them, look, this is really happening. It's not just something that Greta Thunberg is just saying around. No, it's real. It's a problem. So you need to help.
All day, there's people coming in and out of this, and they're looking at this and they're saying, can we get involved and can we replicate this? And the answer is yes. Working with the kids, working in the community of Davos is just a microcosm of what could happen in communities all over the world.
With the curriculum this year, we have been so infused by what we've been seeing from the reaction of the young people that have been involved. Maybe they thought before, I can't do this. There isn't a methodology for me to do this. Well, now children are understanding that there absolutely is, and that technology is the cornerstone of how we start to achieve new things.
