A short video clip of Dolores Huerta delivering a personal statement about servant leadership and community empowerment. She explains she coined the slogan 'Si, se puede' ("Yes, we can"), urges leaders and institutions to work to end racism and inequality, and calls on people to act to preserve democracy. She signs off affirming continued readiness to make change.
I came up with the slogan, si sa puede, which means, yes, we can. All leaders should be servant leaders. You can't be a leader unless you are empowering other people. Because once the people are empowered, they know that they can make a change that are needed in our community. When we all come together, then that's where the real power is. All businesses, all corporations, all public agencies, they have an obligation to go out there and work to end the racism and the oppression and the inequalities that we have in our society. If we're going to have a democracy in the United States of America, we've got to let people know that they are the ones that have to make it happen. I'm Dolores Huerta. I have been ready and I'm still ready to make change.
