Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome executive Vice.
President CRM Applications, Salesforce, Mike Rosenbaum.
Hey, what's up? Astro's a pretty good dancer, huh? Yeah. I can't keep up. I can't keep up. Somebody's gonna have to help this guy off the stage. You want my help? Here we go. Here. Oh, yeah. Give him a hand. Give him a. We lost. The show's gone. What a way to kick it off. You guys excited to be here?
Yeah.
So welcome to the best damn keynote at Salesforce. Excuse me? At Dreamforce. No question about it. All right. We're gonna get. We have so much to cover. I'm gonna jump right in. But before I do, there's one important thing on this slide, and that is my Twitter handle. Mike 945778. Many people consider it to be the worst Twitter handle in the world. It's very important for all of you because you should follow me, and I can beat Sarah Franklin at our little game. But more importantly, I want to hear from you. I want your feedback. I want to know what's working. I want to know what's not working. One of the really amazing things about this community is how vibrant it is on Twitter. And following me will get you 1/10 of 1% of that energy. So start there. All right, so we're ready to go. No, no, no, you're not. First, we got to read the Safe harbor statement. But before we read the Safe harbor statement, Astro will read the Safe harbor statement. And so I guess you will have to read this on our website. Okay. All right, so 17 years ago, Salesforce started with a really simple idea, right? Very simple. Why can't enterprise software be as simple and easy to use as buying a book on Amazon.com but along the way, two things happened. Two really amazing things happened. One was the Salesforce platform, and the other one was the Salesforce admin. And we kind of figured out A lot of ways you kind of figured out that those two things together equaled empowerment, it equaled project success, it equaled company success, it equaled career opportunity and career success. Thank you very much. And we think it created the best community of people in enterprise software. Absolutely. In the world. No doubt about it. Okay. And it is so. It's so sort of completely embodied in this presentation and the energy in this room and the fact that we've got noisemakers and we've got the wave going on and it is fun and you have influenced us. I mean, it's like if you look around Dreamforce this year and you think about the branding, you know, did you kind of notice the difference? It's because of the influence that all of you have had on our company and showing us what's real and what is most real about what we do at Salesforce. So thank you for that. Actually, you guys gotta go back. I screwed it up. I presented this, I moved it forward. So give me one slide back. Okay. So I wanna tell you about a personal experience that I had. So a lot of people don't know this. I started Salesforce 11 years ago and I was actually an admin. I was an administrator of ORG 62. One of the best practices you'll learn is that as people advance in their careers and they become big shot executives like me, you have to take away that admin privilege very quickly. So I didn't have it for very long, but I still remember the day when I created my first custom field, when I created my first custom object, when I created my first workflow rule. Right? And that moment when you see it, you're so empowered that you can sort of say, look, I saw a problem, I saw some opportunity to fix something in the way the company was running. And I just, you know, I figured it out and I did it and I put it into production. And that feeling of empowerment is so transformational. It really had a huge impact, obviously on my career. But I know that a lot of you people out there in the audience know exactly what I'm talking about. I also know there's a lot of people out in the audience that don't yet know what I'm talking about. And I would encourage all of you to just roll up your sleeves and do it. Roll up your sleeves. Get your badge, create your object, create your workflow rule. Excuse me. Now we call builders. Create your process builder. Right? Because that's when you're really going to be able to see what an incredible impact that this can have. On your career and that this can have on your company and that this can make you successful. And that's basically why we call this whole thing the awesome admin keynote. Okay, so one of the things I like to do at Salesforce, I like to look at numbers, I like to look at charts, I especially like to look at charts and numbers that are growing up and to the right. And so these are three of my really important things that I think I gotta thank this audience for. Number one is the number of ideas submitted. 63,000 ideas that you have submitted to us. Our job as product managers. Now you should clap for yourself. Thank you very much. Our job as product managers at Salesforce is so easy, right? I joke that we just basically sort by votes and that what determines goes in the next release. It's not quite that simple. But you know, keep it coming, right? The relationship that we have with you and this back and forth, this sort of, you know, you tell us what we're doing well and how to do it better, that is so incredibly important to keeping this whole great thing going. So thank you for your ideas. This next one, I will tell you, I won't do a project in my career that I am more proud of than Process Builder. The process, the development team that did this, you know, Shelly and Shauna and Leo, all of the Miguel, these people that built this thing, they're not so proud, actually. They're not so proud of what they built. They're proud of the fact of the, you know, what you have done with it. 300 billion transactions have been touched and automated by processes that you have built. Right. It's actually from an engineering perspective, you see charts like that and sometimes you get a little bit afraid because it's increasing at an increasing rate. You're like, okay, are we going to break this thing? But rest assured, it's going to keep working and we want you to keep pushing us. And I was actually just in an advisory board meeting and One of the CIOs in the room was telling me, you know, we've got a whole list of requirements for Process Builder and we're going to take it to the next level. So I want you to keep that going and I want to keep growing those process Builder transactions. So thank you. This last one was just a year ago. Just a year ago. You know, this week when we are at Dreamforce launching Lightning, right? And we were introducing Lightning to the world and you could get your Lightning orgs and you could start building using Lightning. But this one we have now 218,000 custom Lightning components that are deployed into orgs all across Salesforce. And that is because of all of the things that all of you have done to build those components and get those components from AppExchange and put them into your orgs. And it's our job to continue to push lightning throughout the rest of this organization and continue to drive this up. And I have absolutely no doubt that when we get back here next year, this number will be north of maybe a million. That's a bold statement. So you got to help me out with that. Okay, good. So, look, I just want to say thank you. I want to thank you for everything that you do to motivate us and inspire us. And actually, you know, you won't hear anybody else say this, but I think what you do uniquely is you hold us accountable to building the kind of product that you see the potential for. And that accountability is something we in a product development organization take incredibly seriously. So thank you for everything that you do, and thank you for just, you know, plain old being awesome trailblazers.
All right.
So are you ready? Okay, hold on. Ready? Last year, I don't know how many people were in the room last year. Last year, we did something fun. We're gonna do it again this year, and that was we gave out an award. So we're gonna give out our awesome trailblazer award of the year. Before we do it, I'm gonna tell you a little story about this person. So one of the things we did, when we thought about, who can we give an award to, we thought about all the people, all the stories, everything that we've heard out there from the community and. And sort of put it into Einstein and said, what's the best possible story that we can come up with? Right? Let me tell you about this person. Okay? Now, this is a person that had no college education and no technical background. This is a person that's working a manufacturing job and going to work every day, worried that the rumors that the factory are going to close and he's going to lose his job are going to come true. And it's kind of interesting that the job that this person is doing is sort of operating this giant machine as big as this stage that slices deli meat, doing it 10 hours a day. But then something interesting happened is he heard about Salesforce, and he heard about this opportunity to learn Salesforce and that anybody can do it, and that basically everything that you need to learn Salesforce is out there and available to you and all kinds of people. The Kind of people that are in this room have already learned it and already used it to get great jobs. But then he thought to himself, how the hell am I going to do that? I'm working this manufacturing job 10 hours a day. He had this incredible, interesting idea. He went online, and he found all the button admin podcasts that he could get a hold of, and then he found all of the replays of all the Dreamforce sessions that we make available online, and he loaded them all onto his iPhone every day. And every single day when he was going into work, he would sit there for nine hours listening to Salesforce, listening to these podcasts, and listening to these sessions over and over again until he learned the product. There's this incredible story that he tells about how one day he was having a hard time keeping track of the way sharing works in Salesforce, which I admit I still do, right? The hierarchy of, like, is it profile and role or role or group? I have no idea, right? And so he went over to the wall, and the wall is, like, cold in the room. And he drew on the wall with his finger on the condensation on the wall, the hierarchy, so that he could keep track of it in his head. And he did that for nine months, and he got a certification. That's not the best part of the story, though. Best part of the story's coming up. Best part of the story is then he got lucky. And guess what happened? The factory closed and he lost his job.
Right?
But that's when the community kicked in, because he went to his local user group, and he said, hey, I just got certified. I'm kind of out of a job. I'm looking for a career in Salesforce. And. And one of the people in that user group said, hey, you know what? We need to hire an admin. And that person is now employed as a professional. As a Salesforce professional. As a Salesforce professional admin. And I want to welcome that person up on stage right now. That person is Zach Oturo. So why don't you come on up here right now and get an award? Come on up. Come on up. So inspiring, man. So inspiring. So congratulations. So we have two amazing things for you right now. Number one, we have this trophy, okay? But this is what you're gonna really fall in love with, buddy. This is the one of a kind, golden trailblazer hoodie. Juliet is gonna help me put this on you, my friend. Here we go. There is no other on the face of this earth, buddy, and you own it. So congratulations. You are awesome. And embody everything that we want in Salesforce Admin. So thank you very much. All right. All right. Now we are going to get to the rest of this awesome keynote, and I would like to welcome up on stage the wonderful, the only Chris Landy to take us through the rest of this presentation.
Yes. Thank you. All right, everyone give a round of applause for Mike Rosenbaum. And everyone in this room is going to follow him on Twitter.
Right?
Yes. Well, thank you so much. I am absolutely honored to be here with you today. This is a community that is so very near and dear to my heart. And who went to Mark's keynote yesterday? Everyone. Yes.
Good.
So Mark said that Dreamforce is like an annual family reunion, and that just. It really resonated with me because that's exactly how I feel. This is my seventh Dreamforce, and every year I come back and I get to see all of you who are not just customers. You are my friends and you are my family. And I'm so honored to be part of this amazing admin community. And I've been part of this community since 2007, actually, when I first became a Salesforce admin back in 2007. But, you know, one thing we did not have back in 2007 was trailhead. Hear it up for Trailhead.
Right.
We've got the Trailhead team over here. Yes. So you can. The Trailhead team here representing with Astro and Trailhead. We got Jeff and Karen and Duarte. So Trailhead is amazing. And like Mike mentioned, we've now taken over Dreamforce. That is how great Trailhead is. It is just absolutely. We're having those pinch ourselves moment, looking around Dreamforce and seeing it's all Trailhead. And we've seen people doing amazing things with Trailhead. They're learning new skills. They're learning how to be better leaders, be better managers. And we've seen over 1.2 million badges earned. Yes. It's amazing. So by now, all of you have heard of Trailhead.
I'm sure.
How many people have at least one badge? Okay. Just about everyone. Great. Well, I think what's been so inspiring for us who have all worked on Trailhead, the amazing Trailhead team back here, Admin marketing, Dev marketing, We've all been working on Trailhead. And what's been so amazing is that not only are all of you in this room using Trailhead to learn and to drive your career, but we're also seeing that you're using Trailhead to start a movement. You're using Trailhead to teach other people. New technology. Yes. It's amazing. You're teaching other people how to be their best and how to find their next dream job. In the Salesforce ecosystem, we have amazing people like Mary Scott, admin evangelist, Cheryl Feldman. Yes. Cheryl Feldman, Kerry Manteone, so many others. Yeah. Cheryl is here in spirit, and I'm sure she's watching online. They've been partnering with Girl develop it to help women learn development skills and help them learn Salesforce. And they're doing this using trailhead. And this has been so amazing to see all of you using Trailhead to teach others. And we're seeing people get together for Salesforce Saturdays. Yes. Is Stephanie Herrera here? Somewhere? Maybe back. Yay. Awesome. Stephanie Herrera started Salesforce Saturdays, where people get together on your weekends, in your spare time and learn Salesforce together. Do Trailhead together, help each other, be your best. And one other amazing program that we've seen completely community run is Trailhead for All. And Trailhead for All has the goal of bringing trailhead, bringing Salesforce to schools, to nonprofits, and to community gatherings with the goal of teaching other people technology so they can further their careers. And again, this is completely community driven. This happened a year ago at Dreamforce last year, and it happened when someone very special put out a challenge to the community, and she challenged everyone to host Trailhead for All events. I know we have many people in the room that have hosted events, like Shauna here. Who else has hosted events? So you're bringing trailhead, you're bringing Salesforce to your communities. So I want to talk a little bit more about that. And to do that, I would like to welcome up the woman who started this whole thing. Please welcome Annie Scheck.
Thank you for having me.
You have some fans here. So tell us what inspired you to do this to start Trailhead for All?
There's actually three reasons. When I reflect on my own Salesforce career, there has been. It's blossomed, and I love it. But sometimes I think about, I wish I learned Salesforce earlier. I wish I would have considered technology as a career path earlier, but it wasn't something that was encouraged or the access wasn't there. And that leads to the second reason, which is diversity in technology.
Right.
I know Salesforce is a huge advocate for this, but Salesforce can't do it alone. We have to go out and bring this to our community. And the third thing is my love for nonprofits. And I've been in a nonprofit sector for a while, and I want to do things that make a positive social impact. And when those three things marry, that is trailhead for all.
So you talked about impact. So tell me a little bit more about the impact for your volunteers or people that you are having the events with.
So after speaking with all of our awesome volunteers, there are a couple of things that we saw changing in your attitude or your confidence level dealing with technology. So increasing confidence, overcoming that fear that people have of technology. We have a couple of participants that pursue the career of Salesforce. And so an example would be high school students doing the trails so that they can add to their resume and be a more eligible candidate for internships. We have people who are trying to go from an end user to a system administrator. Another impact would be, you know, obviously it's increasing education of what a CRM is. It's knowing that there are tools. So we had participants who worked in nonprofit sector, didn't know about the CRM, didn't know about the 111 model. So now they have access and they have the education available. And in terms of being a volunteer and for the volunteers, I think the impact is that fulfillment of sharing our knowledge. It is. It's just an awesome thing to feel. And I want to take this time to thank all the volunteers that contributed to this event. And we have a couple. I want you guys to stand up. Toyota Toya, Gatewood. We have Melinda Smith, Amy Oplinger, and Shawna Hughes. Thank you.
That's awesome. So we have a lot of people that have held events already. So everyone else in the audience who wants to get involved, how can they get involved?
So last year I did the challenge on Twitter. This year I'm challenging in this live audience. I challenge anyone to sign up for the link up there and join the success community group and pledge to do an event in your local nonprofit community center, a after school program, or maybe you are a nonprofit school community center and you have the participants come join. Go to that link and join and we'll provide you a guide to make sure that your event is successful.
Yay.
Thank you so much, Annie. Everyone give a round of applause for Annie. Well, Annie's story is absolutely incredible. You can just see how much passion she has for making the community better. And we have so many great admin stories out there. In fact, we have so many great admin stories that we created a new website just to showcase them all. So now we have our brand new admin stories page where we're showcasing these amazing administrators that are leading their companies and they're driving change in their communities. People like Davina Hanchuck. Yes. Davina. Davina is amazing and she is someone who did not come from a technology background, but when given the chance to become the Salesforce admin, she jumped at it. She taught herself Salesforce administration. Now she's a Salesforce admin and she's driving change every day in her business. She's working with her execs to drive the business forward. So there's so many amazing stories. So check out our website. We're looking for more people to showcase. We'd love to get you all on there. And as we're talking to all of these amazing Salesforce administrators, we see that they all have a few traits in common. Number one is that Salesforce admins lead by example. People like Mary Olson Fajimi. Mary is passionate about using technology to drive a positive and lasting impact for her company. She's been an admin since 2011 and since then she's been passionate about driving technology, getting the newest technology in the hands of her users to make them more productive. In fact, she just rolled out Lightning this year. Clappy is for Lightning. And I love something that she said about it. I thought was just so cute. She was talking about rolling out Lightning to her sales users and she said, I feel like I was leading them to the deck of the Starship Enterprise. So big cheers for Mary. She is a great example of an admin that leads by example. The second trait we see in successful Salesforce admins is that admins, every day you're driving innovation. You come into work and you wonder, how can I make this better? How can I find those innovative solutions to complex problems? Carlos Frius is a great example of this. Carlos is using features like process builder to streamline processes, make his users more efficient, make his company more effective. And the third trait we see is that admins give it up for Toya. Admins pioneer with curiosity. I think this is something that we all in this room have in common. We're all curious. We all love solving problems. Toya is a great example of that. When she's working in Salesforce, she asks herself, how can I take the solution even further? How can I do more with it? And I love Toya's quote with Salesforce. The things you can do are endless, the sky's the limit and the limit is your imagination. I love that. So today, this is what we want to talk to you about. How everyone in this room can blaze your trail, how you can lead, how you can innovate, and how you can pioneer. Just like our wonderful poster children. Right here. So first we want to talk about leading, because that is where it all starts. So to talk about that, I'd like to welcome up the one, the only, button click admin himself, Mike Gerholt.
Thank you, Chris.
Welcome, Salesforce admins. Thank you, Chris. That was amazing. So, before I start, I'm going off script. A lot of new admins in here, by the way. We make a lot of noise in the keynote, so when you see features make a lot of noise, don't be afraid to cheer for something.
That'S not.
Enough noise until Adam starts clapping. This, by the way, is the best part of Dreamforce for me. I know there's parties later. This is our party right now. So let's get started. As a Salesforce admin for 8 years, I built my career on best practice. And I want to help you build your career today. So I want to get started. Our first best practice, Streamline processes. You have to make your users more productive, of course. Drive efficiencies. That's our goal. Connect with stakeholders. Write this down, because we're going to do it later, because we want to make sure that we're aligned with company goals and, of course, providing training and documentation. We can't be awesome admins like Toya and everybody and Zach if we don't train our users. And of course, as a Salesforce admin, we are going to champion new technology. That's how we're going to lead our company in the future. And when I think about new technology, I think about Lightning. Lightning is how you can lead your company to the future.
But.
I'll give you a dramatic pause. That's your hint to cloud. All right. Lightning's more than ui. That's what you see up on the screen. Lightning's an ecosystem of developers and partners who are creating amazing components that empower you, the Salesforce administration, to become a builder. Now, with winter 17, lightning gets even better. In fact, I made him put up a few features on this slide that I thought were super cool. Inline edit on lists. Yeah. Calendar month view, of course, chatter, live feed. And the thing I've waited for, Kanban on leads and campaigns. There's only one problem. Not a long time ago, I was in a seat, just like you, and I'd sit there and I'd see a guy on stage and he'd point a slide like this and I'd get a huge knot right in my stomach because I knew it's easy for you to stand on stage. I gotta go home and deliver this. I had a Problem with that. So I said, here's the deal. We're all in one room together. We're all sharing the same air, which means you're all our admin ohana. And as family, I can't send you home without knowing exactly how to become a leader. So, demo Rangers, let's pull up a salesforce Org and show them exactly how to become a leader with Lightning. All right, so we're in Classic setup, and we're very familiar with that, right? Mary, our awesome admin at Astros Adventures, was so inspired at Dreamforce that she wants to become a leader in her company. And to do that, she's going to lead with Lightning. So her first step is the Lightning Experience page. This is your hub for everything, Lightning. Now she's going to connect with the stakeholder. So her first stop on that page is the Lightning readiness report. This report is so cool. It shows you all the customizations you did in Classic and how they're supported in Lightning. It's a great way to have a conversation with stakeholders about your migration to Lightning. But in addition to that, this page has everything that she needs. She can learn more about features. She can turn Lightning on for users via profile permission set, or as you can see, even says the default for individual users. Of course, Mary needs to lead with Lightning, so she's going to turn it on herself using the user dropdown. And at any point, she can use the very same user dropdown to switch back to Classic. So here we are at Astros Adventures, and we're in the Lightning sales app, which Maria, like a good Salesforce admin, has customized for her users. See, when Maria got to Astro's Adventures, well, they had a lot of spreadsheets that were flying around with adventure topics. And she's like, that's not being productive. So she did what any admin would do, and she created a custom object. Of course, we can switch over to Astro's Adventures using the Lightning app launcher. Easy, not hard. And her users have access to any standard or custom object. So if we jump into that custom object that Maria created at Astro's Adventures, we can see now her users are super productive. They're not pushing spreadsheets around. They have all of the data in one place. And because she's enlightening, she could easily add an image component that really brings that adventure to life. Can't do that on a spreadsheet. Dates are super important for Adventures because that's what her coordinators live by. How many people love to look at dates on a report? Yeah, nobody I look at dates on a calendar like a normal person would, and that's what Maria's users asked her for. No problem with Lightning. She could easily use Lightning Calendars and take any standard or custom object and put it in one single calendar. I would clap. All right. Her users can also filter this calendar with a list view and they can change it if they don't want to see the month. So that's awesome. Now, Maria's users are a lot like yours. They log in, boom, they land on the homepage. So Adventure Coordinators are a little bit different. Maria had to customize the homepage for her Adventure Coordinators, and she can do that easily in Lightning App Builder. So let's take a tour real quick. Standard components are on the left. These are all the things that Maria has access to. Maria worked with her developer friend at Astros Adventures to create some really cool custom components. And she also installed some third party components from the App Exchange. But whoa, do you see that? He just went to the App Exchange from Lightning App Builder. He didn't open another tab. Because we have some of the best demo rangers in the world. With Winter 17, you can go right to the App Exchange. You can filter, view, and even install a component that would further customize your homepage. So Maria's users, these adventure Coordinators, they have a tough job. Leads are coming in, and they need to know where to go to start planning Adventures. And they said, well, we could look at a report, but when I need to go somewhere, I pull out a map. So easy enough, Maria can drag and drop a heat map, which is a Salesforce Labs component, right onto the homepage, set it to look at leads, and when she saves it, it's easy enough to deploy it right out to their Adventure Coordinators. Now they have access to this information on the spot. I gotta tell you, I waited eight years to really be able to customize the homepage. That's pretty cool. Thank you, Mike. So Maria's users came to her with one last request, and Maria works really hard to make them happy. And they said, you know, Maria, we love everything that you're doing for us, but, like, I have like a million tabs open and I can't get through Adventures fast enough. Can you help me out? She said, no problem. I'm going to build a Lightning app page. So to do that, she jumps back into Lightning App Builder. Now she has a choice. She could build a new record page like we saw for the Adventure Record page. She built a new homepage maybe for a different set of Users or sit down, people. Just get ready. This is about to get awesome. She built a new app page, so let's jump in. Maria didn't study web design, so we offer up preconfigured layouts that are going to make her page look beautiful. She can choose the layout she likes, and then let's give it a cool name like Adventure center, because this is the place they're going to go. Now, Maria installed some really cool Salesforce Labs components, and all she has to do is drag and drop them on the stage. We're going to start with the first one. It's a list view component. She sets it to look at her custom object Adventure center, which we all know. Double underscore C. Right? Custom objects. Okay. Custom objects. Double underscore C. It's only like, five something. We're not out of energy yet. We're just getting started. You have no idea what's coming up next. We can also add other components like a map component and an image component. That sounds pretty neat. All of these components were designed to work together. So as we add components to this page, Maria can configure them. Remember, the goal is to reduce the number of tabs. It's easy enough. All we have to do is save this page. Now we don't need code. See, I haven't seen them use code yet. I mean, they're really good demo rangers, but they still haven't used code code. So she's going to add that to the Astro Adventures app. All she has to do is click. And the Salesforce One navigation, Not hard. And I know they're tricky back there. They're really good rangers, but they still haven't used code. So let's jump over and see what it looks like for our adventure coordinators when they go to the desktop. First time she deployed it, it's not hard. We click on the Adventure Center. All right, here we go. We're going to reduce tabs. Now, as they click through the records. Look at that. All those custom components are updated. Now, her users, when they're on the phone with a prospective client, as fast as they can click through an Adventure center record, they have up to date information. Holy cow. But wait, there's more. Pull up the phone. Because her adventure coordinators are on the go. They're out doing trade shows, maybe a canoeing event. They're meeting with prospective clients because Maria added this to their Salesforce1 navigation. They also have access to this page wherever they go. And as you can see when they're scrolling through it's available to them and it doesn't matter what device they're on. It could be on iPhone, they could be on a Windows or they could be on an Android device. That is how you and Maria will lead your company to the future with Lightning. Chris, back to you.
I almost brought my clappies up with me. Big round of applause for Mike Gerholt. That was great, Mike. Amazing demo. I love that app page because I think of all the times that I do right click new window. Right click new window and you have all of those tabs open. You don't have to do that anymore. It's absolutely awesome. So Mike showed you a bunch of the new Winter 17 features which looked amazing, right? But wait, there's more. Mike Rosenbaum is not stopping. He is adding more and more features to lightning and we have more coming in spring. Things like forecasting, scheduled dashboards, mass actions on related lists. It is going to keep on getting better, keep on adding more features for you. So I know a lot of you in this room might be thinking, but Chris, change is hard and we understand that. We understand change can be hard and we want to guide you on that journey to lightning. Because we've said before, lightning is not a switch that you flip, yell, surprise and throw confetti at your users. It's a journey. Right? This is a crystal arte thing. It's a journey and you have to learn, prepare and engage with Trailhead. We have sample rollout strategies and rollout schedules to help you with roll it out to your organization. We have sample team communications to help you with email templates and how to videos to help you engage your team. So we've talked a little bit about high level of how to roll out lightning. But next I want to bring up someone who has done this at his company. I know you're all going to be very excited for this person. I want to welcome David Liu, salesforce technical architect at go. We have another person with a lot of fans here in the audience. So David, tell us about why you rolled out lightning. Why did you make the choice to roll out lightning at Google?
Thank you, Chris. You know, a couple years ago I prayed to the Salesforce gods, I said, benioff, Parker, I've been a good admin this year. I don't ask for a lot of but please, please, please this year give me a Salesforce ui. And you know, I want to thank them because they delivered and they gave us lightning. Thank you, Morgan. Thank you, Parker. The important part about lightning is lightning makes every part of your Salesforce. Org better dramatically. And you can't get that from any other feature in Salesforce. So even though at Google we have a huge salesforce. Org, many, many VisualForce pages, tons of integrations with Google products, we knew early on that we wanted to implement Lightning and we began preparing really early.
Awesome. So tell me about the how. How did you do it?
I gotta give a huge shout out to the trailhead team. Chris, Duarte, Sandy and Kira. Amazing.
So many shout outs.
I love it.
Amazing.
Everyone on Our team did 10 lightning trailhead modules to prepare and they were excellent. From there, we knew we needed support. We knew we needed executive support. So we pitched Lightning to our executives as a revamp of their favorite feature reports and dashboards, of course, and they loved it. Then it was time to execute. It was time to actually build. Enlightening. And this is the part that I imagine a lot of admins in the audience might be worried about. And to be honest, we were a little worried too. It seemed like a big, scary project. But it turns out once you're committed and once you actually get deep into building it, it's not as hard as you think. In fact, we finished weeks early and we used that time to do user acceptance testing with power users. We did global trainings, and ultimately we launched with a pilot group.
That's great. So, yes, round of applause.
That's awesome.
So tell us what's next? What's next with Lightning at Google?
Future of Lightning at Google. I'm going to need you to hold this for a second, Chris.
Okay.
Lightning everywhere. Special thanks to my wife, by the way. She hand cut every piece of Lightning confetti here, Dear. I know you're watching right now. Thank you. I love you. You are the best.
All right, thank you so much.
Thank you, Chris.
Everyone give a round of applause for David. I love this custom Lightning confetti. This is amazing. Well, thank you so much. And for those of you in the room who have not yet gotten started with Lightning, we have a great place for you to start. Mike Gerholt showed you in the demo. We have Lightning experience readiness checks that you can access in setup. You get your personalized report of your org and how ready you are for Lightning. And this week at Dreamforce, if you visit the Lightning Lookout just outside of this room, you can get your assessment and get help one on one with one of our Lightning experts. So highly encourage all of you to take advantage of that while you're here at Dreamforce. So we talked about leading. Mike talked about lightening the latest Winter 17 features and how our demo admin Maria was able to help her users make them more efficient, help them work faster. Next, we want to talk about innovating. And to do that, I'd like to welcome up admin evangelist Jillian Medill. Welcome. Thank you, Chris.
Yeah.
Hello.
Awesome admins. Okay.
How amazing is it that we have our very own admin anthem? Pretty awesome, right? And I can't help myself because I'm on stage. So I really want to just do those last line with you.
All right, ready?
We ready? Awesome. Awesome. Yes. You know, we make a lot of fun of ourselves at Salesforce for saying awesome a lot, and I am huge culprit of that. I may have had something to do with starting some of that vibe, but it's really true because interacting with all Salesforce admins is awesome. You make me feel awesome. You make me inspired. I have been part of this program for about three years, and it has inspired me not only to change my career path, but it has inspired me also to become one of you. It has inspired me to actually become a Salesforce admin. In June, I actually finally passed my own Salesforce admin exam. Thank you. Huge part to all the advice I got from the community. See if I can do it. Anybody can do it, I promise you. So one of the things that I have noticed by interacting with so many of you, and that is my first, my favorite part of the job is going to community events, meeting you here at Dreamforce, getting tweets from you on Twitter, it inspires me, it drives me. And the one thing that I find in every single one of those is that admins, admins are so passionate about creating new ways for their users to be happier, to be more efficient, to drive success in their business. And you do that by innovating. Now, I'm going to talk to you about some really cool new tools that are going to help you innovate. But I'm going to tell you right now, the coolest thing I'm going to show you is how you can use these tools to make your users better. I'm going to show you how you can actually make visual workflow appear in your user's email inbox. Awesome, right? And how you're going to be able to harness that power of mobile to really make your users and your lives happier. We all like to be happy, right? So let's talk about lightning components, because this is how you're going to do that very first exciting thing I just mentioned. Lightning components really enable us as admins to endlessly customize our application for our users without using any code. Winner 17. We have 20 new standard components. We have 100 plus partner components on the app Exchange. Those are all pieces that you can plug and play without a single line of code to really build apps for your users. And as I mentioned, not only can you do that to customize your user's in app experience, but you can bring that to them in their inbox, right? This is where our users live. This is where they work. But our users also live and work on their mobile devices. And that's why we all, most of us know, right, who's actually rolled out Salesforce1 in their organization. Couple hands. I know Jen Wobster is Salesforce One cheerleader. She's great. She's taught so many people how to do it. But Salesforce1 not only lets us do things on the go, like manage leads, accounts, contacts, collaborate, manage tasks, but very soon you'll also be able to customize that app icon for your company. Pretty cool. But you see, it's not just our users that are on our mobile devices. We're admins. We're on our mobile devices. How many people have had to reset a password for their user this week while they're at Dreamforce? Okay, so our favorite job is an admin, right? It's awesome. Makes us feel so good because we get that text or that email or that phone call, that means we have to go, leave whatever we're doing, go pop open the laptop, find WI fi and log into setup. Not so fun, right? That's why we've got Salesforce A. Salesforce A is the app for admins. This enables you not only to reset passwords, view trust, status, freeze users, edit users, even manage permission sets. But very soon. This is really cool, you guys. We're going to be able to create new users and reassign user licenses right there. Awesome, right? Okay, okay, so enough of me telling you about all the cool things. It's the admin keynote. What do we do in the admin keynote? We show you how it's done. So let's Ranger Cody and Ranger Paul, our demo masters there. We're going to go to the demo. Mike introduced Maria, our favorite awesome admin at Astro's Adventures. She's built this custom object to help her adventure coordinators get all the information they need about Adventures in one place. On this custom object, she'd build a couple of custom fields like region, price, relevant information when you're planning an adventure. But one thing she's heard from her adventure coordinators is that this information is great, but it's really hard to sort through it quickly when they're trying to make a recommendation to a client about which adventure they should do, which adventure they should take.
Take.
So what did she do? Maria is an awesome admin. So she has built a flow. Whoa, wait a second. Flow is kind of scary, right? I promise you it's not going to be scary in a second. Maria has built an adventure recommendation engine using Flow. This is a way to help her adventure coordinators figure out which adventures to recommend to her users or their clients. She's used something really, really cool that's new. Coming soon. We've got this thing called dynamic fields. Dynamic fields actually make your flow smart. It responds to the data that her adventure coordinators are going to put in those fields and then use that data to populate that next field, those next options. So, for example, her adventure coiners select a region of North America. It's only going to populate the sub regions that are relevant for North America. This is great because now her adventure quarters don't have to sort through lists of hundreds and thousands of different regions. It makes that user experience so much quicker and so much more efficient. Okay, so we saw this flow looks cool. But wait a second. Flow is really hard because we need a developer friend to make that visible, right? Not anymore. I'm going to show you how it's done. So with Lightning, we saw Lightning. We saw how you could build a record page, custom homepage, but we're going to build that email application pane. We're going to bring Lightning, we're going to bring Salesforce, we're going to bring that adventure recommendation engine inside of our adventure coordinators in boxes. So we're going to give it a name just like we do any other lightning page that we build. And we're going to notice here in that standard component list, there's something new. Flow gonna drag it over there and wait a second. Just right there. All she has to do is select any of the visual workflows she's created and that's it. That's it. That's how you can bring flow to your users without any code. This is huge. This means I can do it. The other great thing is that she can activate this email pane for her users based on profile, and that means she can bring it just to her adventure coordinator. She might need a different email application pane for other users. As soon as she clicks save on this, it's going to go right inside of her user's email boxes. Okay, well, let's see it.
Right?
We want to see it. So let's go into an adventure coordinator's email inbox. And we're going to see right here in the email inbox, he's got a question from a client, wants to know a recommendation for a new adventure. Look at that beautiful flow right there. That's visual workflow. That's the dynamics fields in action right there inside of the email inbox. Right. Not only can you bring it inside your user's email inbox to make them more efficient, but they're going to be happier because they don't have to open up another window. Log into Salesforce. It's all there. Here we've got 365. We're using the Outlook plugin, but this is available for any email application that has a Salesforce plugin. All right, so we brought it to our users email inboxes. That's where adventure coordinators live. But they're adventure coordinators. They're always on the go. So Maria enabled Salesforce one. That's right. Which is great not only for her Adventure coordinators, but her entire organization, because even Maria can use this to stay in touch with what's happening in her org. So, for example, when Larry locks himself out of something, he can't get into something great. So what does that mean for us? We got to open up the bag, open up the laptop, find a wifi connection, log in to set up. Wait a second. We just said we don't have to do that anymore. Salesforce A, the app for admins. Maria's using it, so she's going to respond to that notification by going into Salesforce A. This is Salesforce A. Pretty simple. It gives you all the information you need to know immediately as an admin right there on your mobile device. Trust status, recently used users, recently viewed users, and then, wait, we got this resources tab. It's my favorite thing, maybe, because Admin News events is at the top. Admin.salesforce.com, my favorite website. But it also gives you access to Trailhead Trust, more info on Trust Answers, Community, and you can read the release notes. You can get up to speed with all the latest and greatest in winter 17.
Okay, but wait a second.
We need to get back to Larry, right? Larry's locked out.
Okay.
First thing we're going to do, we're going to look at his login history, because usually that'll tell us what's going on. So we can go into his login History right here from Salesforce A. Actually, it looks like he's been able to log in, so that's not the problem. But we can also look at permission sets with Salesforce A. Now Maria, being the amazing awesome admin that she is, has used permission sets to layer accessibility on top of profiles that she has for her users instead of having hundreds of different profiles. And she can see right here, Larry doesn't have the adventure coordinator profile that he needs. Permission set that he needs just by using her mobile device, she can adjust that. Now Larry has the access she needs. She can put her mobile device back in her purse and on the road. Still here in the keynote. All good. So that, that is how we as Salesforce admins can truly be innovators, by harnessing the power of lightning and mobile for our users. Back to you, Chris.
Girl, Great job. Gillian, you rocked it. So we've talked about leading and Gillian just talked about innovating with components and mobile apps. And I think that not only that's the ultimate productivity innovation, but it's also the ultimate adoption innovation. Putting Salesforce where your users are, whether it's in their inbox or on their mobile phones, putting Salesforce where they're working. So next we gotta take it to the next level. We have to talk about pioneering, right? Pioneering like Toya. So to do that, I'd like to welcome up the woman who we call Leanne Force because she likes to app all the things. Welcome, Leanne Templeman.
Thank you, Chris. And thank you awesome admins. So I do like to app all the things I didn't make up. Lean Force, that wasn't a name that I came up with, but I love building apps. I've been building apps, I've been an admin for my entire career and I care a lot when I build my apps, just like all of you in this room, right? When we're rolling out users, when we're building apps, rolling out changes. I care very deeply about my apps being really usable. I care about them making sense and being fun to use. I care about them being useful, right? Solving a problem in some way, making users more efficient. And I care a lot about them having longevity. We don't want to build these amazing, beautiful apps and then have them go away in six months, right? We want them to have longevity be relevant for a long time because we've put a lot of work into them. And I was so excited. As someone who cares deeply about my users experience, I was really excited when we made an investment in data science. I was really excited when we invested in Einstein, when we started rolling out this type of intelligence for our users all over the world, for our sales and marketing users, when we announced this, because it meant that we can make our sales and marketing users more efficient when they're working with leads and prospects. We can make them smarter when they're working with marketing campaigns so they know where to spend money, where they know where to invest more. I mean, who here has ever had a sales and marketing user that didn't want to have more data about leads?
Right?
We always want more data. We want more information. But I also really wanted to know what this meant for my apps. I wanted to know what this meant for all of us admins that have been building customizations, building apps, building business processes. Einstein means that we can make our apps smarter. It means that they're going to be relevant and they're going to be even more intelligent. We can supercharge them with this machine learning information, with this predictive analytics. Imagine being able to bring in predictive analytics to apps you've already built for, for users, to dashboards and reports that they already like. Right? You don't have to rebuild everything that you've already invested in, that you've already built. You can just layer on this intelligence and really supercharge them. Right? So this is admin keynote. We're not going to stand up here and show you slide after slide after slide. I want to show you how our favorite admin, Maria, who we've been seeing, everything she's been building for Astros, how she's using Einstein to bring intelligence to her users. So leads are really important at Astros. Leads are part of how they grow their business. They're part of how they work with new clients, new vendors. And Maria's taking a piece of Einstein, a predictive lead score, and she's rolling that out to her users everywhere that they engage with Salesforce, everywhere they engage with the apps she's built. She's built a great list view, right? We all love list views. She's built a beautiful list view in Lightning, showing them predictive lead score. They can do all the things you like to do with list views, like sort on it, view it, filter on it, and now they can inline edit in Lightning list views, which I'm very excited about. But that's not all. When she rolled out Lightning, she also turned on list view charts because it's great to see items in a list, but we want to see visuals of that data. We want to be able to see how are these leads Performing and what's the best lead source. So she built a chart within this list view without having to go to a new dashboards chart or tab without having to toggle around their Salesforce instance. They can see this visualization right there of what are those really effective sources of leads.
But that's not all.
Mike showed us one of his, told us about one of his favorite winter 17 features and I'm going to show it to you. In winter 17 we have Leed Kanban because what is this predictive score measuring? What is this looking at? It's looking at the likelihood or predicting the likelihood of conversion. So what better way to look at that than on a Kanban board showing the life cycle of leads? So her users can visualize this data here in the way that they're actually interacting across the lead stages. Now why can they see it? Because Maria is an awesome admin and she's using compact layouts to make sure that this predictive lead score is visible everywhere. But let's take a look at what one of the leads actually looks like. Let's take a look at Jessica Wright. This is one of our awesome leads and we've got this predictive lead score and it's looking at everything about how Astros does business, right? And returning likelihood of conversion. Because this is machine learning information. So instead of writing say a formula field, I know I've written formula fields trying to predict what is a good lead, what is a good opportunity. Instead of having to do that, it's looking at how does Einstein do business or how does Astros do business and getting smarter with Astros and learning from what is a good lead and returning that score here. And one of the things that's important to Astros as Ohana is volunteering is contributing to the community. And so they've got volunteer trips and Einstein has learned that those leads that are interested in volunteer trips are more likely to convert. So when we update that volunteer trip, it updates the lead score. It's incorporating that score. And that's because this Einstein predictive analytics, it's not just standard fields on the lead is standard and custom fields. And in the future, we're all going to get to be data scientists because we're going to be able to use it on standard and custom objects on any fields. So we also collaborate a lot of Astros, right? We've got the Astros Ohana. We want to encourage everyone to share what's effective as they're learning about what makes a lead convert. So we've built, Maria has built an awesome chatter group Here, that's sharing everything that's effective with these booth events, right? They're running a lot of booth events. They're going to a lot of various locations, and this is where they can share what's been working, what's not been working, and add leads to this group. And she's used App Builder to add a chart to the group. And what's really cool is that in winter 17, you can have filters on these charts. So you can start to add these report charts to account pages, to record pages like groups and have intelligence into the data that you're looking at with this chart component here. I mean, that's awesome. That means you can use charts everywhere in lightning pages. So this is great. This is all of these ways that she's surfacing this Einstein data to her users, right? They can view it, they can look at the the charts, they can talk about it, they can filter on it. But what about automation? I mean, we all love Process Builder. We all love workflow rules, we all love flow. How are we building this into our automation? Let's take a look at our processes. So Maria, of course, she's an awesome admin. She's using automation to manage everything. So she's got a lot of processes here. And one of them I want to look at is this child hot leads process. We have a process that we've already created that helps us manage hot leads, and it does three things. When there's a hot lead, it posts to chatter, it adds them to the newest upcoming campaign, and it sends them a nurturing email. Now, we're going to come back to that process, but don't forget about it because we're working on a new process called our intelligent process. We want to build a process that incorporates that predictive lead score, that machine learning field that has learned about how Astros does business and is returning this likelihood of conversion. So we've started this intelligent lead process and we have our criteria that it's a qualified hot lead, but the only criteria we have so far is that it's qualified. And that does not exactly look like a great process to me. It seems like it'd be sending a lot of stuff to just every single lead that was qualified. So we're going to add our predictive field and we're going to say over 95 is a pretty high, high prediction score. So we're going to add 95 there. Now what do we want to happen when we have a qualified lead with a score of over 95? We want to do three things. We want to post to Chatter. We want to add them to the next upcoming campaign and we want to send them a nurturing email. Now, who here has ever had to recreate actions for different processes?
Right?
Yeah, I know. Me too.
Lots.
I don't want to do that anymore and I'm not going to. In winter 17, we have a brand new type of process builder action called Processes. So we're going to do our three things, but we're going to do it without building a new process. We're going to do it by invoking that child process. This saves us so much time. This gives us one place to manage our process and allows us to reuse this process across tons of business cases, across processes that impact other objects. I mean, this is a huge time saver for all of us admins that love automation. So I think we gotta take a look at this in action. Let's go ahead and activate this process and let's go to our beautiful, our beautiful Astros branded SalesforceOne mobile app. Now, our mobile users, like we said, we're working with leads a lot. They're dealing with leads a lot. So just like any good admin, we've created an action for them for the things they do most often on mobile. We created a qualified lead action for them on the lead object in mobile. And when we qualify this lead, Jessica Wright. Let's see what happened. We scroll down, we can see she was added to the campaign. So she's a campaign member of our next upcoming campaign. She had an email sent to her and there was a chatter post that went out. My three things happened because that parent process fired and then that fired that child process. I mean, that's a huge time saver. So that's just a few of the ways that you can use this sort of intelligence to make your apps smarter, to supercharge your intelligence, supercharge your apps. And as admins, we can all pioneer our companies to the future with Einstein. Back to you, Chris.
Oh, I'm sorry. Great job, Leanne Force. Awesome job. All right, so we've covered a lot today. We talked about leading with lightning. We talked about innovating with components and mobile apps and we talked about pioneering with latest technologies like Einstein. And your journey to leading, innovating and pioneering does not stop this week. We have Astro here blazing his trail. So your journey does not stop this week. We have resources to help you blaze your trail. Take a page out of Zac Otero's book and prioritize learning, prioritize your career, use trailhead to level up. Run that lightning assessment. Yes. Trailhead, run that lightning assessment and review it with your stakeholders. And last, lead by communicating. You've learned so much this week at Dreamforce. Take all that knowledge back to your organizations. But we have one more thing. We're at the finish line here, but we have one more thing here in the admin keynote. We want to celebrate you and we want to say thank you. So can I please get everyone who has been an admin for 10 years or more to stand up? All right, round of applause. Okay, keep standing. If you've been an admin for 5 years or more, stand up. All right, round of applause for these people. If you've been an admin for two years or more, stand up. Yes. If you are new admin, stand up. All right, everyone, if you're here supporting your admin community, stand up. All right, everybody, stand up.
Get up.
Let's do this. Let's finish strong. We can do it. All right. We want to thank you. Thank you for inspiring us. Thank you for being your best. Thank you all for being trailblazers. Beautiful day.
Beautiful day.
Make it away.
