Lightning Web Components is a new UI framework that gives you the ability to create modern apps using web standards. We took a big leap forward with our community and open source Lightning Web Components. So now you can use it both on Lightning platform and on any other platform of your choice.
Being able to move stuff into open source is a huge move. It makes it much easier for people to get in to see what's going on, to leverage it and to expand it to other territories.
We were thrilled when we heard that Lightning Web Components were open source. It was a huge step for our company. By leveraging the open source part of Lightning Web Components and having it being open source. It's really easy for us to target the higher end, front end engineers that are available in the Bay Area because the technology is available to everybody now.
So we open source because we wanted to give you the opportunity to help contribute back for you, to help to send us your pull requests, your ideas and improve this framework, make it better for you and for all. And we wanted to make it so that you could use this in any platform of your choice, really extending both your skills and reusing your code.
For us, performance was so key to this. Just seeing things load 300% faster has been great. The ability to not depend on somebody else's framework. No more angular, no more react. Now it's like we have the best of both worlds.
It's much easier to build, it's much easier to test, it's much easier to create and work with and to be able to expand and use stuff and to be able to keep up with the latest standards without having to try to learn two different things, Salesforce development and external development at the same time time.
So this is effective today. You can go to LWC Dev, which is a new website. You can also dive into our GitHub repo, download the code, send us a pull request. Today our team is ready to start engaging.
