Al Gore calls the sustainability revolution the largest investment opportunity in business history, enabled by digital technologies that let us manage physical systems with precision. I'm here with former Vice President Al Gore and you mentioned the sustainability revolution that we're now a part of, as well as the fourth industrial revolution in a nutshell. What's the sustainability revolution?
Well, it's based on much higher levels of efficiency, much higher levels of awareness of the production process. It's based on new digital technologies like the Internet of things and blockchain and machine learning and artificial intelligence and genomic sequencing. And it's giving executive teams the ability to manage electrons and atoms and molecules and genes with the same precision that the IT companies have used in managing bits of information. It has the scale of the industrial revolution, but it has the speed of the digital revolution. And it's the most. It's the largest investment opportunity in the history of business. And it's the most consequential revolution in redefining the relationship between humanity and the ecological system of the earth.
You said there are products that you're seeing that are enhancing the environment or the community where they're in operation. Tell me a couple of the products that you feel are those enhancing products.
Electric cars would be a good example. It's important that the electric cars are plugged into an energy ecosystem that's based on renewables. So we have to do both of these things simultaneously.
I love that. And your call to action. We have folks from all different roles in business here at Dreamforce. What can each of us do and what can we advocate for, for our businesses to do?
Well, number one, everyone as an individual can play a role in the marketplace. When you insist on the more environmentally responsible and climate friendly alternatives, that not only helps you reduce your impact, it sends a signal through the chain of production and increases the demand for a speedier transition. Secondly, as an investor, make sure your pension fund or your 401k is invested sustainably and responsibly. And perhaps most important of all, in your role as a citizen, get involved in trying to encourage and demand that the candidates you vote for and the office holders who represent you are part of the solution and not part of the problem.
Thank you so much for being with us. We really appreciate it.
