A short motivational vlog by Barkus Luckey (part of the #coldshowerphilosophy series) using Stoic and military aphorisms (Epictetus, Douglas MacArthur) and athletic training metaphors (karate, Olympic training) to encourage viewers to treat current hardships as training for future success. The speaker offers personal anecdotes (early-morning call, park walk) and a closing call to care for friends and persist during lockdown.

I really like today's quote, which is no pain, no gain, and it's from Epictetus. Oh, shit, it's cold. Difficulties show a person's character. So when a challenge confronts you, remember that God is matching you with a young aspiring partner, as would a physical trainer. Why? Becoming an Olympian takes sweat. I think no one has ever had a better challenge than yours. If only we would use it like an athlete would. That young aspiring partner, Douglas MacArthur later went on to say at West Point, upon the fields of friendly strife are sown the seeds that upon other fields on other days will bear the fruits of victory. You don't get anything without putting in the work. And for a lot of us still in lockdown, you can use this as your work. This is your hard witness training. I've done a bit of fighting in karate and the fights are never won on the day. They've won in the early morning training, they've won in the dojo. They're one with calluses, blood, sweat, tears and broken bones. Some days you've really just got to put yourself out there beyond the loop to find the success and the beauty. This morning I had a phone hook up at 3.30am with a manager in the UK and after that I got to go for a walk. And as this video finishes, you'll see what I got to see at the park today. It was stunning everyone in the travel industry. Keep going. Everyone in Melbourne, we don't know when, but every day passes a day closer. So take care of yourself, take care of your friends, share the love around guys, and all the very best cold shower philosophy. Bye for now.
