Mark Luckey - Quality Mind Explained

Mark Luckey presents Quality Minds, a 12-week neuroscience-based program that uses daily practice (7-30 minutes) to build mental fitness. He recovered from depression during lockdown and now offers the course with weekly sessions, coaching, and an app. Small repeated practice, he says, creates large gains.

But what are we talking about here.
And why would you listen to me? Well, it's because I speak from a place of lived experience and think of.
Mental fitness as a resilient mind that thrives in the chaos of life, supporting focus, purpose and emotional balance. And if a mental fitness practice was a gymnasium for the mind, it'd be open 247 hosting group boot camps where we sweat together whilst exercising mindfulness, good nutrition, resistance training and recovery.
I love the idea of optimisation across all aspects of my life, from fitness to productivity, growing a business, nutrition, being a good family man, having time for friends and time for life. I mean, we only get one shot, so I choose to make the most of it. So to start, I followed the formula. I read a self help book, did a short course here, saw a motivational speaker there, and like a New Year's resolution, I would feel pumped, so enthused and motivated. And I was. But like a New Year's resolution, the afterglow dims until we pick up the next book or attend the next course or see the recurring subscription appear on our credit card. But the truth is, often nothing is changing. And don't get me wrong, knowledge is essential, but it's only worth something when we activate it. And I never understood the value of investing the time or even having the time to do all of this stuff. And then I did. Let me explain.
At the end of January 2020, I was Sensei Mark, the veteran national karate champion, training in Sydney with the Australian team, preparing to fight at the World Masters Games in Tokyo. And from Sydney, I was flying to Puna, where I was CIO of a booming multinational travel company. But by April, I was washing down junk food with scotch, watching the world shut down on a pathway to becoming a depressed alcoholic. These lifestyle choices were bringing about toxic repercussions incredibly fast and I needed to save myself. So in lockdown one, I took the time and I began my practice. And ever since, I've recorded its evolution on my watch and in my journals and I've studied and I've applied that knowledge and I've learned that scientists and philosophers across the seas and the ages have all come to many of the same conclusions.
And my big takeaway from thousands of hours of study and personal experimentation was the realisation that whether it's in our relationships, getting work done from home, motivating a remote team online, teaching a karate class, preparing for a title fight or studying for an exam, it's the elements of success are the same. I've got a couple of favourite sayings that I've picked up over time about journey towards success. One's from a footy coach, one's from a karate saint say, you'll probably work out who said what. One of them said, lucky.
The harder you work, the luckier you get.
And the other one went by Hyaku.
Renchitoku.
Train Lots will become your treasure. We analyse others by their actions, but we judge ourselves by our thoughts and our intentions. But we are what we do and results come when human beings become humans doing.
But this mental fitness doesn't come from reading self help books any more than a black belt comes from playing Mortal Kombat online. Our belt of life blackens through a consistent deliberate practice of wanting to be better.
The first time I heard practice a lot was when I began yoga and the teachers would talk about go with what's in your practice? And my mental response was, seriously, can't I just try and do yoga? And then they'd say something like arrive on the mat, set your intention. My internal dialogue would go along with, isn't it just enough to turn up? I'm not intending to solve world peace here, I'm just trying to loosen up my dodgy hips took a while to understand what they were saying and practice has become one of my favourite words. I studied lots and I found some really cool stuff around having a growth mindset combined with deliberate practice. You see, when we practice, we experiment, we try stuff, there's no failure, it's all just learning. And we accept it's about getting better and at elevating our performance in whatever the focus of our practice is. So to turn ordinary into remarkable, the journey is through a life of deliberate crafted practice and having some fun along.
The way because it's through a consistent deliberate practice that is the bridge between us today and a better version of ourselves tomorrow.
At Quality Minds we talk a little personal development, but a lot of personal activation because it's the action, it's what we do. And we have the knowledge, the tools and the processes that helps anyone build their own elite level practices. What we do day to day to bring about the results we deserve. And if we improve the quality of our practice, we improve the quality of our game. Quality Minds follows a neuroscience based approach with a focus on identifying and assessing habits, breaking the bad ones and replacing them with behaviours that serve us and not hinder us. Because that's what elevates us in the world of martial arts and a decade of agile software development. This sometimes gets referred to as Shu Ha Ri. I'll explain later. Astoundingly, our thoughts are mostly automatic. And in fact, most of our lives are automatic. From simple things like tying a shoelace through to more complex behaviors like driving a manual car. It starts off as an awkward unknown we can't do. We take some little steps and we link those steps together until we've learned and mastered a specific behaviour. Then we go into autopilot mode, seldom to think about it again. And why would we? We can already drive the car. When it comes to our mental fitness, everyday life triggers us and our mind responds by activating the same thought routine from joy to sorrow, to anger and to action. But if those automatic thought habits are negative, and in fact if they are anything less than inspiring, motivating and exciting, they get in the way of us achieving success. And so if we don't challenge the thought habits, we're going to stay in this steady state. But it doesn't have to be that way. We can change our internal dialogue from trolling us with doubt to become the greatest cheer squad to have in life. And the reason we get stuck in ruts is because change is tricky.
But this change doesn't come from just information, inspiration or shaming. Sustainable change is aligned to personal values which inspire us. And our inspiration follows our own actions, which is often caused by discomfort. And that's what drives us to improve.
Change comes via constant repetition, doing a little bit day by day, because over time, like compound interest, it brings about staggering results. So let's hit some nuts and bolts in this 12 week program to build a quality mind. We focus on information and inspiration from our weekly crew sessions and one on one coaching. We have a community, your crew, who form a tight knit self inspiring group led by Quality Mind mentors like myself. And we've got a great app. Now, as someone with 25 years experience of international tech consultancy and development, it feels like there is an app for everything and something else demanding our attention and our time. The Quality Minds app connects you to your Quality Mind crew for the 167 hours a week when we aren't together. It connects you to a global community of people already activating change in their lives. And it contains meditations, podcasts and super simple, super quick activities that liberate powerful results.
What could you get done if you.
Put your mind to it and gave yourself the best chance? It's the toolbox you need to build your own five star life and it's designed on peer reviewed neuroscience principles of building awareness to understand our habits and the effects they have on our thoughts, our lives and our beliefs. Think of it this way, all of our beliefs are just thoughts on autopilot that just keep reoccurring and if habitual thoughts are negative they cause our limiting beliefs. Limiting beliefs can be addressed by hacking into the related thought processes and inserting motivational and empowering thought routines that help build mental fitness. With Quality Minds you can literally rewire your brain to support the life you want to live, the things you want to do and the person you truly deserve to be. And do you know what it takes to elevate your ordinary to remarkable? Astounding results are achieved with a regular 7 to 30 minutes a day. Here is Quality Minds CEO Rich Maloney sharing some success stories with you of people who have committed to the process, done the work and changed their realities.
Here are some success stories along the way of clients that have been through the progress and so you'll see here pre, mid and post. Jamie, who was on 25 years of medication, really wasn't managing stress well, wasn't loving who he was, happy, easy relationships and the ability to control worry. Now this pink here is already underway. Look, he's more or less there within 12 weeks, but as the mind knows it'll go back into default. So you've got to keep training it and keep training it because the way this world is programmed for fear and worry, then people start getting back into old habits. You see here Jamie a business owner as well and you can slow this video down but really these are the results we're getting. Also six month progress here with Doug Cooper who's a police officer, Michelle Cook and lastly Marcus Lancaster, heavy vehicle operator and again I said lastly now but Mark Chapman who was a retiree, enormous growth based on repetition, based on using technical to help everyone or help all their clients become the best version of themselves, reach their dreams by really hacking into what works.
The five star life refers to the steps involved in creating a quality mind. We start with evaluation and then Follow up with retraining thought patterns. Through repetition, we clean out and make some room for you to plan your dreams and finally to start living your quality mind life. A human being who has become a human doing positive change occurs for those who do the work because our approach works. But change is tough, especially when we're tackling thoughts and beliefs which just feel like they are part of us and so deconstructing ourselves can feel uncomfortable. And that's not a bad thing, because when we're uncomfortable, we move, we respond, we develop, and we arise to the challenge. Nothing worth doing is easy, but it is worth it. Stoic philosopher Marcus Aurelius summed this up by saying, the obstacle is the way, and it's by doing the work on ourselves that we have never done before, which is how we will achieve the results that have always eluded us to transcend the version of ourselves that is today. To have that elevated view, we need to take on the climb.
So imagine what might happen for you if you built some deliberate discomfort into your day and developed your mental fitness on a journey to being a better version of yourself. It is a tough and arduous journey that needs vision and inspiration, but I guarantee you it's guaranteed to bring you roi.
So if you're ready to move from personal development to the realm of personal.
Activation, then Junbiga de kita shiseiyo toru.
Take your ready position.
Hyaku renjitoku for training a lot will become your treasure. Shu ha ri Learn, grow and transcend. An acknowledgement to push and to endure.
There are some great success stories further down the page of those that have come before you and have developed their own quality Minds.
