Ben Greenfield on Earth Runners and Grounding

A short YouTube monologue by Ben Greenfield describing the practice of grounding/‘earthing’ (walking or contacting the earth barefoot) and its claimed benefits—reducing jet lag, inflammation, and restoring the body’s electrochemical balance—followed by a personal endorsement and promotional segment for Earth Runners grounded sandals and socks, including a discount code and purchase URL.

Ah, Kauai. I now stand upon the hallowed ground of Hawaii. Having spent the past five hours on an airplane with the entertainment center broken. So I didn't get to watch War of the Planet of the Apes like I had planned on. But I am now here in this. And yes, that appears to be some kind of a wild chicken over there. Now I'm lucky. Why am I lucky? Because right now I'm barefoot. I ground when I get to where I'm going because the earth actually carries magnetism that you can think of to be like a reboot for your body after you've been on an airplane for a long time. There are movies like Earthing that actually go into this concept. Or actually, you know what the name of it is? Grounded. The documentary Grounded goes into this concept of how people like bury themselves in sand and earth to actually heal diseases and to fix things like arthritis and musculoskeletal pain. Our bodies are a battery. There's a great book by Dr. Robert Becker on this concept. But your cells operate at a specific electrochemical gradient. And the idea is that the earth helps to restore that. That's why you feel so good when you camp, when you walk outside barefoot, when you do like I'm doing after I travel. This will get rid of jet lag, it will get rid of inflammation. But I'm lucky, like I said, because I'm in Kauai and I can do this outdoors out in front of the little home I'm staying at. But I was just in New York City. What did I do when I was in New York City? Staying on a skyscraper, walking around on pavement and concrete. Let me show you. Instead of going barefoot, I use these bad boys. Okay, so these are Earth Runners, alright? Copper plugs in the bottom right there that keep me grounded. And copper lined laces. These are the hemp version. The hemp version of the Earth Runners. Now the cool thing is they also just launched their sock. This sock is like a wool sock that allows me to use my Earth runners in the snow or the cold for when it gets all snowy and cold here in Kauai, as we all know that it does. I just. No, but anyways, they're super sharp looking. They're fashioned after the Tar Mahara Indian tribe that would run in these sandals that were fashioned very much like this. So you get like a barefoot, grounded running or walking experience. Earth Runners, copper lined lacing, copper plug in the bottom. So you're pretty much grounded no matter where you're at. You don't have to be that guy or that girl who flies in somewhere and walks into the room barefoot, or that person who wants to ground but, you know, basically doesn't want to be a dirty hippie at a cocktail party. I wear the I wear. Last week when I spoke in New York, I wore these with a suit. And I actually got a lot of compliments on them. So, Earth Runners, here's how you get them. Here's your discount code. BG10. BG10. And you go to BenGreenfieldFitness.comEarthRunners that's BG10. BenGreenfieldFitness.com EarthRunners. You're welcome. I love you. Happy Earthing.
