A climber walks through the Russian technique for ascending rope. You load your weight into your arms, sweep one foot under to stand on the rope, then push with your legs while minimizing arm pull to move up. Repeat and re-grab higher.

So the close up on the Russian version of the climb, you have your leg, you're making a tabletop position between you and the rope. You're going to hang all of the weight in your arms, sweep your other foot underneath, stand on top of the rope. So there's tension in my feet. Now I'm just going to stand using minimal effort from my arms, not really pulling. I'm just going to push off my feet.
Regrab, hang up as high as I can, again pushing with the feet, hang.
On.
