A short motivational monologue by Ben Greenfield urging listeners to intentionally embrace fear and discomfort as a path to success and happiness. He contrasts automatic self-protective instincts with the benefits of taking 'heroic' steps—trying harder workouts, changing diet, or beginning spiritual practices—and asserts that happiness is often found by stepping into the scary and unknown.

Lets talk about being scared. We're hardwired not to be scared. We're hardwired to identify danger and run from it. We're hardwired to protect ourselves. Have you ever noticed that the people who seem to embrace a little bit of risk, embrace a little bit of danger, maybe not have a automatic self protective mode that kicks in all the time, tend to be very successful and impactful people because they've learned to embrace scary things, to do scary things. Be a Hero so I want to ask you now, where are you comfortable? Where are you avoiding anything scary? Breathing too hard during a workout, Trying to change your diet and knowing that that's going to change your body and change how other people look at you? Trying in the morning to embrace a spiritual practice? Not sure what that's going to bring to your day or bring to your morning or what kind of questions it might bring up from deep down inside you. But let me ask you this. Will you stay holed up in your tiny little hole or will you poke your head outside to see what's up? To explore, to adventure, to be uncomfortable, to be fierce, to be brave, to be bold, to be edgy. See where you're at is probably pretty comfy, isn't it? Maybe different for different people. But I'll bet you have a lot of comfort in your life now. If you've already taken that first hero step out of the ordinary world and across the threshold into the unknown, then you know that that you didn't want to, but it called you when you got out of that discomfort, or rather discomfort masquerading as comfort, but inside generating uncomfortable internal angst and came into the uncomfortable, the unpredictable and the scary. That's where you find happy. That's right. Scary is where you find happy. You just gotta believe that and most people don't because that thought is, well, uncomfortable.
