Health Myths That Waste Your Time: Supplements, Seed Oils, Cold Therapy, and More

Ben Greenfield (creator/uploader) announces a new series of written and video newsletter musings and a planned book-in-serial form. He frames writing as a personal, story-driven craft and commits to tackling common health myths (examples: supplements like creatine, multivitamins, fish oil, collagen; proprietary formulas; peptides; cold/heat therapy; sleep duration; gluten; seed oils; red meat; keto; carbs; fasting; biohacking vs natural living; psychedelics; modern obsession with immortality). He explains his serial publishing process (syndication of articles leading to a book), asks for audience feedback to shape scope, and states he will not use AI to write the material.

Well, somehow I have never gotten pregnant or had a baby, but I've heard that the process of giving birth, and God bless you if you have, is such a laborious ritual that most moms don't instantly turn to thoughts of attempting to produce another baby anytime in the very near future. And that may not be true. It is not a PubMed fact, but let's say that it is true then, and the following risks offending all hardworking mothers. For an author like me, the process of writing and publishing a book might be synonymous to childbirth in some ways, meaning an author who has just published a book may not be terribly excited about writing another book right away. So until recently I personally wasn't excited about launching another so called baby making process. But it's been around six months since Boundless was released my last book, and the writing flea is beginning to gnaw somewhere near the base of my left ear again and it seems to have spread to my brain because I am writing again. And not only that, but I'm also recording videos like this for you from my writing. The reason is I've had quite a few thoughts lately about content production and writing. Such as First, I like to express my thoughts in written word and I like to put that written word out in audio and video form like I'm doing right now. Although I don't do many things well, writing is like an inborn skill of mine. It comes somewhat easy, it makes me better at organizing and disseminating my thoughts, and I trust that what I write might be able to help you too. So I actually feel like I could be underserving you by not writing now. Second, I used to write a weekly newsletter that had a bit of, say, meat to it. Now currently a lot of the emails you get from me offer you some great discoveries, deals, research dives and podcast alerts. But believe it or not, I have some other musings rolling around in this skull that would be valuable to share with you. And there's a big difference between me pushing out a quick social media post and me rolling up my sleeves and writing something really meaningful and potentially more permanently valuable for you. And that leads me to point number three. In the health industry, there are myths and common beliefs that are hurting you and wasting your valuable time, and I plan to systematically tackle these issues in my writings and my recordings in the coming months. This will include me giving you my unique perspective, personal stories, and experienced but possibly controversial take on things like supplements, creatine, multivitamins, fish oil, collagen, fairy dusting proprietary formulas, peptides and more temperature common misconceptions and confusions around cold and heat therapies Sleep? Do you really need seven to nine hours gluten seed oils, red meat, keto carbs, fasting, biohacking versus natural living psychedelics? And this is a big one. The modern obsession or quest for immortality? Fourth did you know that Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol, Alexandre Dumas, if I can pronounce that his book the Count of Monte Cristo, Neil Gaiman's American Gods, to name a few, were all written as syndications. That means each of these books were released bit by bit in a newspaper or other publication like the author's website. And this is also how I've created books in the past. I write a series of articles over the course of a year or so. I I play close attention to your comments, your questions and your feedback. Then I improve. I refine. I eventually sculpture this into a polished book. And that is my goal. With this newsletter article video series that starts today, you get to help decide the scope and direction of my next book. You are my co creator, so if something resonates with you, great. Let me know. If something is completely disinteresting to you, let me know that too. If I'm not discussing or taking a deep enough dive into something that you think I should fill me in. After all, I wake in the morning to learn essentially cool shit that I can tell you about to make your health, vitality and overall life better. And I promise to keep doing that if you promise to keep giving me feedback. So that all being said, I'm almost done with my mini TED Talk here. Just a few housekeeping items. First, each newsletter will include a video version from me. You're probably watching it right now, but there will also be a written version in case you like to read. You will be able to find these weekly musings not only in your email inbox, but also on my website, on substack medium, LinkedIn, wherever else you prefer to consume content. Just take your pick. Next, I promise I don't use AI to write. It's a decent research and idea generating tool. But what you are researching, reading or watching right now is literally me typing or dictating or recording something I've personally written. AI cannot give you the experience and stories that I'll be sharing with you over the coming months. It can't give you the unique human perspective. Frankly, I will never again write a book that's mostly full of facts and research. Everything I create going forward must be my own personal experience with entertaining and educating stories that make your life better. Yes, that takes more time, more creativity, and more energy than cranking out AI drivel. But I'm going to do it because that's what I'm here to do for you. And that's it. I would love to know what you think. I actually do read the comments on videos like this, so until the next video, I'm wishing you the best. Again, leave your thoughts, your feedback, your comments. I read them all. Thanks for watching.
