Short excerpt from a YouTube video (Ben Greenfield, Apr 12, 2025) in which Ben and a guest discuss the ‘dual fuel’ approach in exercise science—simultaneously elevating glucose (e.g., sports drinks, gels) and ketones to provide the body options for efficient fuel use.
There's this term now that I see thrown around in, say, like, exercise science called the dual fuel type of approach, where you simultaneously elevate glucose, be, let's say, like a sports drink or an energy bar or a goo or a gel or something, and ketones at the same time to kind of tap into the best of both worlds, so to speak. What do you think of that type of approach?
I think it's good because you are providing your body the option. Right. Because your body will always choose the more.
Efficient fuel.
And surprisingly enough, while we do know that ketones do go to the brain, majority of the ketones are being soaked up into the heart. So we know that the heart actually prefers ketones whenever it's available.
