Welcome back to another episode of the Ben and Bergs podcast. I'm Ben, your favorite high school dropout and founder of Collective Shift. Alongside me as Bergs, your favorite MBA and CEO of Collective Shift, we're here to bring you world class crypto research strategies and insights to help you crush this crypto bull market. Plus, get an exclusive behind the scenes look as we scale Australia's leading crypto research company. If you like the podcast, we'd love for you to share it with a friend or family member. It's how we grow the podcast each and every week. I have noticed I've been nailing the introberg since I've been on my ADHD medication. So that's been, that's actually been helpful, mate.
You're two out of two. So it's probably about all together or let's say five out of 215 episodes. So literally, I mean. Yeah, yeah, that, that percentage is going up, mate. You're trending in the right direction. Up into the right.
I think it's working. I think it's working.
It's definitely working, mate. Nailing it. I like the way you slow down as well for C O O.
Just so people know your title, mate. Oh, exactly. Now the market is moving, folks. We want to talk about why it's moving, what the strategy is, how we're playing it. Because a lot of people were very fearful, a lot of people very panicked and rightly so. The market was in a bit of a, a free fall there for, you know, the first three months of, of, of this year, you know. You know, and even in up to the last sort of few weeks, the market's been in a pretty deep correction.
The majority of people would be down at least 30% since the highs of December, January.
Yeah. And, you know, we're starting to see the market starting to climb back up, you know, gold, you know, hit record highs recently as well. The US Dollar is starting to weaken and we're starting to see the tariff negotiations, you know, really probably taper off a little bit. It was very, very intense over the last, you know, few months and we knew that. And Trump was sort of waving his magic wand. And the stock market, you know, it is, I think in my last time I checked a day ago was still in extreme fear. Like the stock market has really driven prices lower and people are very, very worried.
Yeah, it was, everyone's getting extreme tariffs and now there's a counter tariff and a counter tariff and now it's like, well, these countries don't get them. These Ones get smaller ones. These goods like smartphones and laptops have exemptions. Moving more towards, you know, reality and a negotiated deal than insane. I'm going to put crazy markups on everything and just destroy economies and just ruin global trade.
Yeah, so we just moved out of. So the stock market just moved out of extreme fear, just into fear now. So, you know, getting a little bit more positive. But really what I wanted to highlight was that the patience piece here and, you know, really looking at the macro factors and hopefully you were listening to us during this period of, you know, looking beyond the short term. And if you look beyond the short term, there was a lot of good things happening, right. Whether it be the SEC pulling back and not having this overarching nemesis on crypto. Trump wanting the US to be the home of crypto, the M2 money supply. So the global liquidity just has taken off. Right. So there was huge increase in liquidity and then rates potentially starting to come down. We were just needing to get through that tariff period. And are we out of the woods yet? I would say for some of these assets, like we are, I think the, the sort of four month downtrend for a lot of these assets we've broken out of. Like, you know, bitcoin's up, you know, back at the time recording 93 and a half thousand. Right. We're up 15% over the last couple of weeks. A lot of the altcoins, sui, you know, sui's up 50% in the last week. Right. So we're starting to see some of these altcoins start to grow. And more importantly, what I think has been a huge advantage for people that maybe, you know, follow us or listen to the podcast or are in our platinum group is following the dollar cost averaging strategy of when you get to these periods of, you know, extreme fear. I made two pretty big investments over the last month. One a month ago and another one literally on Monday just before we had that rally. I didn't know we're going to obviously pump the next day, but being able to follow what happened and what we saw was bitcoin started to decouple away from the stock market. So on Tuesday, the stock market sold off about 1.5 billion.
Billion, trillion, sorry, stock market. Stock market started 1.5 trillion. And the, the crypto market actually added in market cap, you know, only a small amount, I think it was about 60 billion. But we started to see crypto start to decouple and crypto always tends to act first before the stock market. So we started to See these leading indicators, we started to see these assets really sort of break out from their multi year downtrends. And this is really what we've been saying all along. And I want you all to remember and think about what you've been feeling over the last three months about people saying the cycle is over, we missed the top, you know, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Buying into the fear that the cycle was over. And we consistently said that things were going to improve. This is only short term pain and to think long term. And those people that were able to huddle through are feeling much better for it now. But man, Solana hit $90. I think it wicked at $90 a couple of months ago and that was the peak fear. It's back up to US$150 now. Like this is, this has happened all in the last couple of months. So this is really, really important to remember to not buy into that extreme fear. Because every Tom, Dick and Harry online was carrying on about how the cycle was over and we firmly believed it wasn't for the fundamental reasons why. And this is why it's important to not buy into the, the nonsense, the short term nonsense, absolutely.
The stuff online is just crazy. And you think about this, you've got two people and one of them is like, hey, everything's going to be okay. Things are lining up. Bitcoin has never been stronger than it is today versus other guy. Hey, you need to watch out. If it hits this fib level, it's down to like 20. Bitcoin's down to 20,000 and you need to get out now and protect your wealth. Who are you going to listen to? You're going to listen to the fear guy because it's pulling on that emotion. Just the way I was talking there, you're like, oh shit, is that going to happen? What about my money was oh, I need to take action? Yeah, bullshit to all of that. Literally. Crypto is the most liquid thing on the planet. Do tariffs affect crypto? Can you honestly say tariffs affect bitcoin? No, not really.
Yeah.
If we just take it very, very simply. Does tariffs affect the stock market? Hell yeah. Because it's made up of tons of companies. Companies need goods, they've got global supply chains. It's going to affect their businesses and their business models, their financial models as well. And they don't know what that's going to look like. And you come back to crypto. Bitcoin has never been stronger than it is today. Why is it going down? Because there was a huge liquidity suck it's the most liquid thing on the planet. And now we're seeing that decoupling. And when you have money on the sidelines, these opportunities are absolutely golden to drive your buy price down and then profit in the future.
Yeah, yeah. Bang on bergs. And I think we've got to remember who's at the helm here. We've got know Mr. Orange Man. Love him or hate him, you know, is, is he's going to want to push the economy higher. Like he's not, he's not coming in. He's a businessman. He wants the US economy to grow and he wants to make money and he wants the country to make money. Right. And the economy in the stock market is usually a scoreboard for how well he thinks he's done in his presidency. We saw that last time he was at the seat. And for now, where we think and why we bought a fair chunk over the last couple of months is because. Well a month ago was a little bit different. A month ago we started to see a sentiment shift and that's why we invested. But then the one on Tuesday where we invested more and we shared that with our, with our members was that we, we believe that and still do that the peak fear is behind us. Right. Markets are forward thinking, they're forward projecting on what they know and what they don't know. And we believe that most of the, the unknowns are now known in terms of like the tariff news and things like that in the market started to accept what's going on and the stock market started to slightly shift from extreme fear to fear. But Bitcoin at 93,000, like, are you kidding me? It's still up 40% this year. Like it's, it's mind boggling for those people that haven't been in the space for as long as we have, man, to, to go through what we just went through the last three or four months. I would have expected in previous years bitcoin would be down 50, 60, 70%. It only went down 35%.
Absolutely. And look, don't get caught up in the theatrics of the day. Like the Orange man will come out with all different stuff every day. The group chats are going nuts. All the boys are in there and they're just like, oh you know, this happened and this is how it's going to affect my company and this is going on and that's going on. I'm like man, just chill. Like fair enough. You've got company stuff going on. You're going to have A meeting about it. Good on you. But at the end of the day, like, your investments are going to be fine long term. This is going to be fine. Even if it's not. His tenure is like four years. These things can be undone long term and you'll get a better buying opportunity over multiple years. Just think in multiple cycles, you'll be absolutely fine. Do not get caught up in the theatrics of the day because that's how you make those poor decisions. Like Ben and I have in the past. We've been very emotional. We've made very poor decisions. If we just would have kept a lot of our main coins would be way ahead of where we are. So learn from those lessons. You talk to any investor in any market that will tell you the same thing. And stick to your strategy. Think long term and like Ben's done here, have some money on the sidelines and take advantage of these opportunities when they present themselves.
Yeah, and the strategy has been this year and I wrote a post for members. You can check that out on January 24th. Around my strategy for this year based on what we were seeing in the markets, was to be selective, focused and patient and stacking more BTC and reducing my altcoin exposure. And that's played out really well because Altcoin market cap has really sold off the last three or four months. However, we've been able to now accumulate some of those while the, while the markets really retrace. And I do think altcoins will have their time in the sun. But for the, for the time being, Bitcoin's really been the major winner. Those areas where I think are going to grow in value is definitely the layer one space like Solana Sui. There's a couple of others that we invest in as well, which you can check out if you remember. But the Solana Sui trade has been pretty epic. I still hold a lot of Ethereum. I haven't bought any more over the last year. My first buyers for ETH was in double digits. So I've been holding for a long time. Probably not feeling as much pain as some people that bought at 3 or 4,000. I totally understand. But I do think Ethereum's gonna be fine again. You just gotta think a bit more long term. But the strategy here is like I've got one more, one more chunk of cash I want to add to the market, but I'm probably going to wait until maybe we see a little bit more momentum on rates coming down or quantitative tightening ending. Because if we get to that stage, that's where I think the global liquidity will find its way into more risk on assets and that's where altcoins really start to rally. But I mean, even over the last two weeks, Solana's up 40%, Sui's up 50%. Syrup, one of my favorites, is up 80%. Even Pepe, like that was my only meme coin. I held up 50% as well. So it, we've started to see a pretty decent bounce and I think a lot of people forget that if they didn't buy more, you know, in the last couple of months because obviously we're still down from, from where we were. But you know, the market's definitely heading in the right direction, which is good.
Keep calm, carry on, execute at a high level.
Let's go, let's go guys. Thank you so much. That was a really bit of a quick one on my strategy.
