I Just Took Major Crypto Profits (Why & My Updated Strategy)

Ben Simpson (crypto researcher and founder of an Australian crypto research firm) announces he took substantial profits on a major altcoin trade (Syrup, formerly Maple), explains why he sold some position now, and shares his investment framework. He emphasizes fundamentals (revenue, TVL, product-market fit), conviction during dips, and taking chips off the table while remaining patient. The transcript includes market commentary (Bitcoin outperformance vs altcoins, rising M2/liquidity), specific performance numbers for Syrup and other coins (Sui, Solana, Hyperliquid), and a promotion for his platinum membership service.

Guys, I just took profits on 560 gains on my biggest altcoin trade of the last two years. I've been so, so confident and had so much conviction on this. I'm so proud of myself honestly for doubling down on this even in the correction over the last three or four months. I'm going to share with you why I've taken profits, how come I'm taking them right now, why I bought into this coin and the next couple of coins I'm looking at for the remainder of this cycle. So you can also hopefully take these lessons from me and absolutely crush this bull market. I'm going to jump into the top three things I want to share with you today. As I mentioned, what the market is doing right now, we're above all time highs, we've had a bit of a consolidation. A lot of altcoins are still down. In fact a lot of altcoins are underperforming. I'm going to show you a bit of this chart here. You can see bitcoin versus a lot of the other altcoins. How I'm able to find these big returning altcoins, I'm going to share that in a second. Why I bought syrup early, the rationale behind it, there was no hype. This was an under $100 million market cap coin. To share with you those insights to help you find the next coin. I'm also going to share with you a couple of coins that I'm looking at for the remainder of this cycle so you can jump on board as well and hopefully make some good money. And then also just while I'm taking profits right now, obviously I, I don't think we're at the top of this cycle but it's really important so you can understand why I'm taking profits to help hopefully help you make life changing amounts of money and not round trip another bull market. I've been doing this now for eight years. This is the second time I've taken really big profits in, in crypto. I'm actually able to now look to buy my mum and dad a house. This has been my number one goal of this cycle. I tweeted about it yesterday or this morning actually and I'm so proud because crypto in my opinion is a vehicle to help you achieve the things you want to do in life. And my number one goal was to buy my parents a property and they've rented their whole lives. They've supported me. I quit school, I went all in on crypto eight years ago. We didn't grow up with much money. I was always taught I had to go out and figure it out on my own. And it's been a tough, long seven, eight years now doing this and it's really been sort of the last three or four years where I've really been able to hit my straps and take all those lessons and experiences of investing in crypto, running my business, and now actually be able to showcase some amazing results. And I think that's what I'm so proud of. And honestly, what I want to help you guys do the same. Because so many of you, I hear round trip because you don't have goals, you don't have the frameworks, you don't have a sales strategy, you don't think about these things. And then all of a sudden the bear market comes and we're back to square one again. So I really want to share those things with you today. If you like these videos, I'd love for you to leave me a subscribe on YouTube. I've started out about a year ago, got about 3,000 subs, but I do get some okay views from my subscribers. I'm completely independent. I run Australia's leading crypto research company. Our clients are the likes of Coinbase, SwiftX and Coinspot. They all get our research as well as all our members. And you know, I'd love to share with you some of these free stuff on my YouTube channel. So please leave me a subscribe. It does definitely help me out. So why did I invest into Syrup now? Syrup is a Defi protocol and you know, it was two, two years ago that I, that I bought in to Syrup and not a lot of people were talking about it. Right. Defi was, was quite dead. And then we went through this, you know, huge long bear market when defi. And still to this point, defi is kind of being thrown out the window. There's not a lot of movement in the Defi space at all. But what I really believed in is fundamentals and that's my edge in crypto. I'm a big fundamentals guy. A lot of crypto is not based on fundamentals and that's absolutely okay. So much speculation, so much hype, so much sort of, you know, quote unquote gambling. You can make a lot of money in that space. But the thing I've always relied on and the thing that made me Money back in 2021, where I made life changing amounts of money in the metaverse, was the fundamentals of projects. And fundamentals come and go, but ultimately I'M looking for projects that are actually genuinely making a real impact on the world. And Syrup, or what was called Maple was one of those. And I bought this originally and I shared this as our member platform. I shared this back in 2023 how I was making two. One of those was Maple. And then I also doubled down on it back in May of last year and this was when the market was down quite substantially. And the reason I bought into Maple as I mentioned was the fundamentals. But really what I loved about it was the fact that it was generating real world revenue was growing. TVL the TVO at the time, I can't quite remember, must have been at least maybe a couple hundred million. And the market cap of the project was only 50 million. There was a clear differentiator from what the market was valuing it in terms of real world adoption and then the also the asset. And that's really what I'm looking for. Price and value are two separate things. Price is something that someone is willing to pay for it, which you can pay for it for the asset. Value is the value it's creating in the world. And I saw a big separation the value that Maple is creating to the world and the price I was able to pay for it. And it was hard. I had to have conviction because guess what? Defi was hit. The project was down. I bought this about 5 cents. It didn't do a lot for a long time but they had so many great products that were launching to really compete with the big players in the space like Coinbase, like some of the other bigger D5 players. But it really stuck strong on being able to continually build a strong treasury, build strong projects and protocols and build strong products that the market wanted. And this is what I love about businesses that go through tough times like a bear market because your backs up against the wall and you need to make decisions that's going to allow you to come out on the other end. I know that because I'm a business owner and I fuck. I've been through some very tough times in our business. In a bear market you have to make good decisions. And guess what the best projects make it through the bear market. Those likes of synthetics, aave. You can even look at something like Ethereum. These are projects that came out of bear markets in the past and had to find a way to find product market fit. And syrup did that. And you know from, from 5 cents the TVO on, on, on syrup right now is over a billion dollars. And it's, it's been it's been quite a crazy trade. The four things I've learned from taking profits. It's now up 720% if you look at the chart here. So for context, it was called maple. And then it did a token transfer to syrup. So I did a token split, but on the ratio was 5 cents. I bought in. We corrected right back to 8 cents just in April. This is literally like a couple of months ago, guys. Now it hit 41 cents, actually hit 46 cents the other day, up about 850% since the lows a couple of months ago. Absolutely crazy. But the four things really that I wanted to share with you, one is you need a reason to sell. For me, back in the Metaverse, I sold my life changing amounts of money because I wanted to build my business. Collective shift. It was a real world thing. I speak to so many of our platinum clients, one on one, who don't have a reason to sell because they don't really need the money. Or maybe they haven't thought about what they want to do the money with, spend the money on. Guess what, you're going to round trip because there's no reason for you to sell and take profits out. You need a reason to sell or you will not sell. Okay, get those real goals. Literally write them down. The strategy is so, so important, even if it's a small thing. Right. My first one was to buy my parents a property. I'm 100% allocated to crypto right now and my business is in crypto. I'm going to start to diversify through property. The first property I'm buying is my mom and dad. And then I'm going to start to build some more investment properties around the outside. That is my goal. Right. I'm very, very clear on that. I've been so concentrated in crypto to build my wealth, and now I'm looking to diversify to preserve it. Okay, number two, conviction matters. You must have conviction. During the dips, most people panic, sell. Most people give up. Most people throw on the tower if they see their coins go down. I doubled down because I knew what I was doing. I had the research, I had the team. I spent a million dollars a year on analysts and my team. Right. I spent a million dollars. That is my edge. I knew what I was buying into. I had conviction, I doubled down a bought it. Now, do I get them 100% right? Absolutely not. Right? Right. You're never going to get them 100% right. Especially these smaller cap coins. But when you get them right, they Way outperform the losers. And I'm not one to do massive picks and I don't throw out a lot of coins, but when I do and I get it wrong, I'll share that with you guys. But the ones that I do really love, I continue to double down and have conviction. And that's always returned me massive returns over time. Take profits on the way up. So I took one third of my position out a couple of weeks ago at 33 cents. Now at 42 cents, I'm still holding 66% of my entire position. They are growing it so rapidly in the TVL 400 million FDV market cap with a billion dollar TVL and the revenue continues to grow. Pomp. Just the reason I actually sold Pump did a tweet about Maple and I thought that was gonna be a local top. Turns out it ripped another 25%. But the point here is that don't try and be a hero and pick the top. Picking the top is so, so difficult. Our analysts have looked into this. The top of a market really only stays there for very, very little when you get to the cycle top. So I like to take chips out as we go up rather than trying to pick the top because you know if you miss it, it's going to be very hard to sell on the way down. And last but not least is patience pays. I hold this for over 18 months, close to 24 months. I actually took profits on this project back in the last cycle, reborn the lows and went again. Right. The big thing here is when you make these returns, you want to take profits and stay patient to get to that point. But there's a, there's a, there's a fine line between saying patient and hoping something will return and, and hoping on a shitty project and having conviction and now it's going to come through. It's very, very difficult. You need to know the data, you need to know that there is growth in the project. You need to know this fundamental value and maybe a narrative that's going to come. Right? And I would argue that Defi does not have a narrative right now. And that's why I think this has a long way to go as well. But if you do have a 3-5x 10x, you don't have to sell everything, Take profits, continue to grow, take chips off the table as you go up. You don't need to be an absolute hero and pick the top of the market. This was an update I gave to our platinum members a couple of weeks ago around why I'm still holding syrup and I still think syrup's a good play. Reason being is that price continues to grow, right? TVO has exploded. It's up to 1.7 billion now, 4 times increase this year, which is absolutely crazy. And it's still under the radar. Defi is not really being spoken about. Annual revenue, they're making 12 million a year. That's the, that's the fundamental value, guys. When the market dips, when the narrative goes away, when retail investors go away, that's when the project shines because it's still making money. Most projects rely on the demand of investors to pump up their project through the purchase of their tokens. That's their revenue model. It's like think about a business. The business is only way of surviving is making sure people buy their shares but they have no business behind it. That's what you're buying when you're buying things like Meme Coins and other projects with no fundamental value. And guess what? That's absolutely okay, I own Meme Coins. I'm just saying when the market dips, those are the projects they're going to probably fail the most and the fastest over projects that actually have strong growth. And that's really important. They're also getting huge institutional quality lending sticky capital because they're getting big dollars from institutional money coming in, getting that, you know, APY 9 to 15%. Their launch of Syrup, which has been the token transfer has been massive to open up to access. And it's so funny, when they were going through this conversion and I've shared this publicly, if you followed me for a long time I've been sharing. I don't share altcoins very lightly because guess what, you get it wrong. Your name's going to be dragged through it. You're going to hurt a bunch of people. But on the other side, when you're right, you can help so many people. I had a message from my brother, he's mate. My brother's 21, his mate up in Brisbane took a photo, sent me a selfie on Saturday night saying ben, thank you so much. I wanted to tell you my mate took profits at 500% up on syrup and you know, now he's able to go on a holiday or you know, pay off his car or whatever. That's absolutely amazing. That's why I do this. And it's important to know that for me, I don't put these things out lightly because I get it wrong. And as I said, you get your name dragged through it when we had the dip back in January or February. Guess what? People piled in. Ben, you are wrong stuff you. Fuck you. I'm selling whatever. I was buying more. Those people that sold and gave up, I was buying those coins and now here we are. So conviction is really, really important. And also you need to be following the right people because so many people will pull out online. 10, 20, 30, 50 picks. They get one right and then they show off. And again, I'm not gonna get them 100% right. I'm not saying that. What I am saying is you need to have conviction on the coins and you don't want to just end up with 20 or 30 coins and your point portfolio, hoping one of them is going to go up. Now the next part, I want to share with you what I'm looking at next in terms of the investments that I think are going to have the next leg up. But the thing that I'm most excited about is literally global liquidity is exploding, folks. M2 money supply is absolutely exploding and we're seeing, you know, a real momentum following that liquidity, right in terms of the M2 money supply. Raoul Powers put this out a number of times. 11 week lagging indicator. Bitcoin's M2 money supply. I've never seen anything like it in terms of how correlated it is. And, and the way the liquidity is continuing to grow is super bullish. And we're seeing so much momentum. This was a post again I made to Platinum the other day. Trump is putting through this bill called the one big beautiful bill and if it's passed by the Senate, it's going to literally inject trillions of dollars into the economy over the next decade. Huge, huge fuel for bitcoin. Plus all this other institutional adoption liquidity that's coming in. We're seeing some of the big banks starting to come together to look at building a stable coin like JP Morgan and Citadel, Citibank and Bank of America. But one thing that's not happening is we're not seeing this big spot demand. Bitcoin just hit all time highs the other day. We're back to 105,000 and the timeline is quiet. Google Trends are down. ETF volumes are sort of, you know, bare. The fear and greed index is kind of normalized. Nothing crazy is happening. But yet bitcoin continues to grind higher. Now there's a big correlation here between Bitcoin and others. Others is altcoin market cap outside of the top 10? You can see here the difference folks on the returns of bitcoin Versus others, there's a huge differentiator, right? If we look over the last three months, Bitcoin's up 32% and the others on average is up 13%. All right, it's about a 20% difference. If you go back to six months, you're looking at about a 36% difference. The performance of bitcoin continues to be strong and a lot of altcoins are down. And I've been talking about this for so long and hopefully it's starting to get into your head that the supply of altcoins this cycle, guys, is so much more than ever before. There's literally millions and millions and millions more coins than ever before. So you have to be selective. And if you're holding a bunch of coins in your portfolio, hoping that to come back, it is not the reality this time, folks. You have to be selective. We have been absolutely bang on in my opinion, in terms of the altcoins that have outperformed. And I'll share with you the two that I'm really excited about in a second. But this is again another update I made to our platinum members of the day. There was a 40% performance gap between the bitcoin and the altcoin market cap outside of the top 10. So many people are down. But the nail. The plays we have nailed that have been consistently right. And the reason why I simplified my portfolio at the start of the year was because this I thought was going to play out. And the assets that we've stuck conviction in have done really well. Sui, Solana, Syrup and Hype, they're the four that have done so well. And if you look at something like Hyper Liquid. I made an investment in a gaming project last year, Ronin, which you probably heard me talk about. I got that wrong. Right? I got that one wrong. And I shared that on our membership that I got it wrong. Okay? And when I get things wrong, I move on. Because if you stick on something and you just hope it's going to come back, that's where you start to make mistakes. And I took a hair clip on Ronin. I was down 30% on that project. I wasn't hoping it was going to come back. Guess what's, it's down a lot more now. But I got out of it. I rotated into Hyper Liquid. Hyper Liquid is another next gen layer one along with my thesis around Sui and Solana has done so well. Hyper Liquid was something we shared. We bought in because of its tokenomics and its market fit around, driving revenue and liquidity back to its fund through the derivatives platform, it's created back to a fundamental project and the narrative followed this project and it's done so well. Hyper liquids up 200% in the last two months. So I took a 30% hair clip and rotated into 200% growth and hyperliquid. Is that a good trade? Yes. But guess, guess what most people do. They complain that they're down 30% on a project and they go, no, I'm going to hold it because I want to get back to break even before I rotate again. That's not reality anymore, folks. These coins, not all of them will come back. You have to be nimble. Crypto is moving faster than ever and you cannot sit there and hope that things are going to come back because it's not like 2017 anymore, okay? Things are different. So they're the two I'm really excited about hyper liquid Solana Sui. I know you've heard me talk about that. Solana's done really well. Ethereum starting to do a little bit better still down and hasn't done a hell of a lot over the last, you know, three or four years. But I'm still bullish on Ethereum. I'm bullish on another, a bunch of other projects. But more importantly, I want to help you to make sure you're actually making the most of this cycle and not round tripping.
