Ben Simpson explains his altcoin investing strategy: over eight years he focuses on projects that deliver fundamental value to society and token holders—products that generate real usage, revenue, or value accrual to tokens—rather than relying on speculative retail-driven price moves. He argues most investors are underperforming by buying based on past-cycle retail speculation and urges updating strategy toward protocols that actually produce value.

My crypto investing strategy on the altcoins I want to buy continue to remain fundamentally strong. My belief in this space the last eight years, and it's continued to serve me well, is focus on projects that deliver fundamental value. What does that mean? Well, it's delivering a product or solution to society that people actually want to use to generate revenue or give value back to the token holders. That is where I want to be parking my money and it's where I continue to outperform. 98% of people are underperforming this altcoin market because they're buying altcoins like previous cycles, relying on retail investors to push the price up. Right now there are no retail investors. You need to be focusing on fundamental projects that accrue value to the token holders derived by people using the product. God forbid your project actually does something to the world. You are buying a protocol and if it's not generating any sort of value to society, you're 100% relying on speculative value from retail investors that do not exist right now to push the price up. You need to update your strategy and that is how you outperform the market in crypto.
