Ben Simpson presents a ~60-second YouTube monologue tracing the Internet from Web1 (read-only static pages) to Web2 (read/write social platforms) and argues Web3 adds ownership via blockchains, DeFi, and NFTs. He frames Web3 as an early-stage investing opportunity analogous to buying into Facebook when social media was new.

This is web 3 in 60 seconds. It is the biggest change we've seen since the Internet was literally created in the 1990s. Web1 was the first version of the Internet where you could literally just consume pages. You couldn't enter anything, couldn't comment, couldn't write. It was read only those static pages. Then the Internet really gained adoption when Facebook and Twitter started to generate. You know, you had MySpace, all of these different social media platforms, when only you could read, but you could also write. This was Web two. This is what we know the Internet to be today. Imagine you could go back and invest into Facebook back when the Web2 started. That is where we are right now in Web3. This is the new version of the Internet where not only you can read and write, you can also own. You can't own a piece of Facebook right now unless you buy a share in these new blockchains, these defi. NFT protocols. You actually own a piece of the blockchain. So you own that, and that is the Web3 version, and that's why it's so exciting. And that is the new version of the Internet.
